AI Summary

This video explains healing in Mythic Plus across four levels of complexity, from beginner basics to advanced counterintuitive strategies. It covers how healers progress from reactive health bar management to proactive cooldown planning and damage optimization.

[0:00]
Introduction to Healing Levels

The video will explain healing at four levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert, showing how the role evolves.

[1:02]
Level 1: Beginner Healing

Beginners focus on topping health bars reactively, using maintenance heals (HoTs/shields), spot heals, and AOE heals, treating cooldowns as emergency buttons.

[2:07]
Adding Damage to Healing

Healers must also do damage. The simplest approach is to damage when no health bar needs topping.

[2:57]
Level 2: Intermediate - CC and Interrupts

Healers should use crowd control and interrupts because their opportunity cost is lower than DPS, leading to less damage taken and more damage output.

[4:32]
Cooldown Planning

Intermediate healers plan cooldowns around scripted dungeon events instead of using them reactively.

[5:54]
Level 3: Advanced - Proactive Play

Healers develop foresight to anticipate damage, use OmniCD to track group cooldowns, and proactively manage mana.

[9:08]
Level 4: Expert - The Goldilocks Problem

Expert healers balance healing and damage by using cooldowns aggressively to enable damage, and they don't always top health bars if no damage is incoming.

Healing in Mythic Plus evolves from reactive health bar management to proactive cooldown planning and damage optimization. The best healers know when to break the rule of keeping everyone topped to maximize group throughput.

[00:00] today we're going to explain healing

[00:01] Mythic Plus at four different levels of

[00:04] complexity starting with the very Basics

[00:06] explaining what healing is like as a

[00:07] beginner and then how it should progress

[00:09] over time as you start pushing higher

[00:11] keys in your journey you gain experience

[00:13] as you develop a better understanding of

[00:15] what it actually means to be a Healer

[00:17] because at the highest level healing is

[00:19] kind of weird and in some ways almost

[00:21] backwards but more on that later some of

[00:23] the information we'll cover today comes

[00:25] directly from our courses at skillcap

[00:27] tocom our website teaches class

[00:29] fundamentals roll specific tips Advanced

[00:31] dungeon guides mistakes to avoid and

[00:33] much more you can even try everything

[00:35] out risk-free since if you don't

[00:37] actively rank up while using skill cap

[00:39] then you can get your money back no

[00:40] questions asked for a limited time

[00:42] skillcap members also get one free VOD

[00:44] review per month recently mir's reviewed

[00:47] a 3500 Demon Hunter and gave 30 minutes

[00:49] of gameplay analysis that's one of the

[00:51] best players of all time breaking down

[00:53] gameplay and providing personalized

[00:55] advice a pretty sweet deal so what are

[00:57] you waiting for click the link in the

[00:58] description below to get the r you've

[01:00] always wanted now let's explain what

[01:02] healing feels like for most beginners

[01:05] okay so maybe something went terribly

[01:06] wrong in your life and you decided you

[01:08] want to heal Mythic plus we're totally

[01:10] kidding of course we love healers anyway

[01:12] if you are a beginner you are probably

[01:15] paying a lot of attention to health bars

[01:17] while having this feeling that they

[01:18] always need to be topped I mean that's

[01:20] your job right you do the hard work to

[01:22] make sure your team is always safe and

[01:23] there's no safer feeling than having

[01:25] everyone at 100% HP at this point

[01:27] healing feels like an arcade game you

[01:29] see a bar go down and you want to

[01:31] instantly go back up you know that there

[01:32] are different categories of heels and

[01:34] you know how to use them you have your

[01:36] maintenance heels like Hots or Shields

[01:38] which you know to keep up all the time

[01:40] and then when one person drops low you

[01:42] have your spot heel which you can use to

[01:44] top them quickly if more than one person

[01:46] is dying you then have an AOE heal right

[01:49] now we're not too concerned about Mana

[01:51] because we can just drink anyway and you

[01:53] probably treat your cooldowns like

[01:55] powerups maybe you notice someone about

[01:57] to die and so you reactively pop a

[01:59] healing cool down to save the day at

[02:01] this point healing seems pretty

[02:02] straightforward this is healing in its

[02:04] non-GMO organic form but then you

[02:07] realize something wait I need to be

[02:08] doing damage too after all we're playing

[02:11] Mythic plus and we have a timer to be

[02:13] and every time you watch A Healer on

[02:14] Twitch they seem to be doing damage all

[02:16] the time but this seems kind of weird

[02:18] right I mean how can you even find the

[02:19] time to always do damage when you have

[02:21] health bars to top as a beginner the

[02:23] simplest way to solve this problem is to

[02:25] just damage Whenever there isn't a

[02:27] health bar to Top This makes total sense

[02:29] and it works if you play Disc priest or

[02:31] mistweaver monk you have a cheat code to

[02:33] skip this step automatically but no

[02:35] matter what as long as you're hitting a

[02:36] priority Target while balancing out your

[02:38] heals then you're doing a good job and

[02:40] now it seems like we're progressing we

[02:42] started with this basic idea that we

[02:43] need to be healing and now we've

[02:45] progressed to doing damage as long as we

[02:47] have some general knowledge about trash

[02:48] and boss mechanics we will feel like

[02:50] we're doing our job with just keeping

[02:51] health bars top reactively using

[02:53] cooldowns and doing our damage whenever

[02:55] it's convenient so how can we do better

[02:57] let's dive into level two and if you

[02:59] were paying attention you probably

[03:01] noticed we were missing something from

[03:02] level one it's our CC and

[03:05] interrupts okay priest we know you don't

[03:08] have a kick but pay attention anyway mob

[03:11] control as a Healer is more important

[03:13] than most people realize and we have to

[03:15] go back to economics 101 to understand

[03:17] why we all have to come to terms that

[03:19] DPS players have well Egos and they can

[03:22] be a bit sensitive World of Warcraft is

[03:24] a game about teamwork helping your

[03:26] fellow key Pusher achieve their goals

[03:28] and for DPS they want one thing and one

[03:30] thing only to get those juicy pink

[03:32] parses and if they don't then they're

[03:34] going to get their feelings hurt and we

[03:35] don't want that so how does economics or

[03:38] being healer have to do with DPS wanting

[03:40] to do more damage well you can think of

[03:43] every Global cooldown as having a cost

[03:45] so for a mage to give up a damage Global

[03:47] in order to CC or interrupt they're

[03:49] losing out on a global that they could

[03:50] use to do damage this is what we call

[03:53] opportunity cost and for DPS this cost

[03:55] is higher than it is for us now you

[03:57] might be thinking skill cap is saying d

[03:59] DPS should never kick let's be clear DPS

[04:02] should be using their kicks and stops

[04:04] but there are a few reasons why your

[04:05] interrupt is extra valuable as a Healer

[04:07] especially in this intermediate level

[04:09] number one sometimes you can't even

[04:11] trust DPS to use their kicks in the

[04:13] first place number two by kicking your

[04:15] group can do more damage remember lower

[04:17] opportunity cost number three your CC

[04:20] causes everyone to take less damage

[04:22] which means less healing for you and as

[04:24] an added bonus now you can do more

[04:26] damage safely it's kind of a neat little

[04:28] way you can see secretly carry in the

[04:30] background and speaking of carrying at

[04:32] this point you're probably doing a

[04:33] better job with your healing rotation

[04:35] and being smarter about how you

[04:36] distribute heals you're probably also

[04:37] used to the dungeons by now which also

[04:39] means you're thinking about cooldown

[04:40] Cadence remember back in level one you

[04:42] were pressing your CDs very reactively

[04:44] not really planning to use them for any

[04:46] specific reason just as an emergency

[04:48] button when someone drops low but now

[04:50] you have more dungeon knowledge and are

[04:52] starting to feel the actual strength of

[04:53] your abilities and because of this you

[04:55] know how to plan your cooldowns based

[04:57] around the scripted events of the

[04:59] dungeon you're no longer Panic pressing

[05:01] your CDs randomly but instead saving

[05:03] them for very specific moments maybe you

[05:04] know a boss will do a ton of AOE damage

[05:06] so you plann your biggest raid cool down

[05:08] in advance or if you play a class like

[05:10] Resto Druid you know when and how to

[05:13] properly ramp your heels in order to get

[05:14] those big flourishes or maybe you know

[05:16] there's a boss that does a big one shot

[05:18] so you see who they're

[05:20] targeting and you use your external to

[05:22] save the day this is what happens when

[05:25] you start to get better at wow you

[05:26] realize that planning for the future

[05:28] really pays off the further you can plan

[05:30] your moves out in advance the easier

[05:31] Things become all right let's go back to

[05:33] the drawing board we're still keeping

[05:35] health bars topped after all that's our

[05:37] job but now we're using our cooldowns in

[05:39] a more logical way saving them for when

[05:41] they're actually needed because of this

[05:43] we're now more comfortable at dealing

[05:44] damage especially now since we're

[05:46] focusing on Mob control but we're still

[05:48] on level two how could we possibly do

[05:51] any better than this let's graduate to

[05:54] level three and here's where things get

[05:55] a bit weird every experienced healer

[05:59] starts devel veloping this strange

[06:00] superpower that allows them to see a

[06:02] little bit into the future but instead

[06:04] of being able to do anything useful with

[06:06] his power like winning the lottery it

[06:07] gives them the ability to feel when

[06:09] someone is going to die because the more

[06:11] you heal the more you can feel the

[06:13] weight of your HPS and you can feel it

[06:15] side by side to how much damage someone

[06:17] will take at this point it sounds like

[06:19] we're discussing some spiritual hippie

[06:20] stuff but bear with us we don't have to

[06:23] tell you that World of Warcraft isn't a

[06:25] balanced game some classes are made of

[06:26] titanium and diamonds and could survive

[06:28] a nuclear event without pressing a

[06:30] button but other classes they'll die to

[06:32] a small Breeze as a Healer we can't

[06:35] change game balance but what we can do

[06:36] is try and change outcomes which will

[06:38] involve some proactive play and this is

[06:41] the theme of level three becoming more

[06:42] proactive in order to make smarter

[06:44] decisions this is the exact reason why

[06:46] omnic CD is so powerful since it allows

[06:48] you to make the best decisions for

[06:50] proactive gameplay remember back at

[06:52] level one we were only using our

[06:53] cooldowns as emergency buttons but then

[06:55] as we gain knowledge of every dungeon we

[06:57] learned to prioritize them for specific

[06:59] moments

[07:00] and now at level three our goal is to

[07:02] proactively use our cooldowns on

[07:03] specific targets making sure that we

[07:05] trade efficiently and minimize overlaps

[07:08] because of this we need to understand

[07:09] that some classes need a bit more

[07:10] babysitting and even some players

[07:13] themselves need more attention before

[07:14] every dungeon starts you should be

[07:16] thinking about who is most vulnerable to

[07:18] damage some classes will be squishy and

[07:20] others are going to be passively tanky

[07:22] then there's even some classes who can

[07:24] be both depending on the skill of the

[07:25] player for instance Mages have an entire

[07:28] arsenal of defensive cooldowns but if

[07:29] they aren't actually using them then

[07:31] they're going to be no better than a

[07:33] level one boar in elwin forest and this

[07:35] is how Omni CD comes into play because

[07:38] it allows you to dictate your externals

[07:39] and raid cooldowns in the most efficient

[07:41] way possible when there is no

[07:42] communication you now have the

[07:44] information to fill in any defensive

[07:45] gaps being ready to trade before the

[07:48] damage happens and to take it a step

[07:49] further you'll even use Omni CD to fill

[07:51] in the gaps of your team's kicks and

[07:53] interrupts by passively monitoring who

[07:55] has their stops ready and who doesn't

[07:56] you can even avoid overlapping mob

[07:58] control even even when there is no voice

[08:00] communication and if you do have the

[08:02] luxury of playing in voice omnic CD

[08:04] makes you the conductor of your own

[08:05] Orchestra you become the inventory

[08:07] manager of your group's cooldown budget

[08:09] which might seem like a stressful task

[08:11] at first but is actually the best way to

[08:13] keep a calm ahead because you can plan

[08:15] more in advance and speaking of planning

[08:17] in advance you are now more aware of

[08:19] your Mana this is one place that often

[08:21] gets overlooked by healers if you are a

[08:23] druid for instance you have probably

[08:24] realized by now that innervate is almost

[08:26] best used on coold down even when you

[08:28] are high on Mana to begin with if you

[08:30] plan to ramp your heels then you know to

[08:32] use inate to proactively conserve Mana

[08:35] as a shaman you've learned by now to

[08:37] plan around tidal waves realizing that

[08:39] you can't just slam your heels without

[08:41] weaving in rip tides here and there it

[08:42] might not seem like a big deal but

[08:44] anytime you spend drinking is time you

[08:46] don't spend doing damage which will slow

[08:48] the run down again we have to think

[08:49] about opportunity costs now we've

[08:51] leveled up again instead of just playing

[08:53] cool down usage we're now dictating it

[08:55] by being proactive even with our Mana

[08:58] but since we started we're still keeping

[08:59] health bars topped and maybe we're not

[09:01] super confident on when exactly to do

[09:03] damage safely we said level three was

[09:06] weird but level four is where things

[09:08] become

[09:09] counterintuitive there's something in

[09:11] World of Warcraft that we've called the

[09:12] goldilux problem and it's everywhere

[09:14] here's how it works with healers some

[09:17] healers are too cold they want to sit in

[09:18] the back and vape with their heels alone

[09:20] damage that's for the DPS but then

[09:22] there's the timer and the realization

[09:24] that slacking on damage could mean a

[09:25] depletion on the flip side other healers

[09:28] are too hot with their damage they want

[09:30] to press W with their group and pump the

[09:32] meters while this can definitely be fun

[09:34] it's sometimes a bit Reckless and can

[09:35] end in a disaster if people die because

[09:37] of it these players sometimes try to

[09:39] copy what they see on Twitch because

[09:41] there it seems like everyone is pumping

[09:42] with their group but it's important to

[09:44] remember that healers like royben theer

[09:47] and elmir are playing with highly

[09:49] coordinated groups everyone is cycling

[09:51] interrupts and stops pressing defensives

[09:54] and actively avoiding damage playing

[09:55] with good DPS is an absolute luxury as a

[09:57] Healer and you can't really copy paste

[10:00] play styles from twitch into everyday

[10:01] groups while it might be tempting to

[10:03] play aggressive remember that group

[10:05] stability is going to be more important

[10:06] than doing marginally more damage if

[10:08] your group isn't playing in a

[10:09] coordinated way but you might be

[10:11] wondering how do I know when it's the

[10:13] right time to be aggressive because

[10:15] obviously you can't be cold and need to

[10:17] do more than just heal to beat the timer

[10:19] to solve the gold Deux problem you need

[10:20] to rethink how and when you use healing

[10:23] cooldowns there's a tendency for healers

[10:25] to hold on to their healing cooldowns

[10:26] assuming that they will be needed for an

[10:28] upcoming boss thinking that because

[10:30] damage isn't going to be high then it's

[10:32] better to save them for later when

[10:33] damage will be high but by doing so it's

[10:36] possible that they are losing out on

[10:37] multiple chances to press their

[10:38] cooldowns these dead spaces might seem

[10:40] minor in isolation but over the course

[10:42] of an entire run they can cost time this

[10:45] is because cooldowns are more than just

[10:46] survivability tools but also act as

[10:48] safety nets for offensive play watch

[10:50] here as royin presses flourish on this

[10:52] trash pack which allows her to play more

[10:55] aggressive with damage she does this

[10:57] knowing that the cooldown is basically a

[10:58] throwaway anyway and won't be needed

[11:00] until much later and let's go back to

[11:01] where we started remember this whole

[11:03] time we were concerned about keeping

[11:04] health bars topped well here's where we

[11:06] can break that rule the best healers

[11:08] realize that health bars don't always

[11:09] need to be at 100% HP if there's not

[11:12] going to be any damage in the next few

[11:13] seconds then you can afford to be more

[11:15] aggressive and only heal when it's

[11:16] actually needed if there is no future

[11:18] damage about to happen it's fine for

[11:19] someone to hover low and let your Hots

[11:21] do the work this is why healing is so

[11:23] weird in dragonflight the game isn't

[11:25] really designed around rot damage

[11:26] anymore like it used to be but instead

[11:28] these big isolated events where someone

[11:30] might get one shot but as long as you

[11:32] know when those events are going to

[11:33] happen you have a much better time

[11:35] knowing how and when to balance your

[11:36] healing job with the other five jobs you

[11:38] didn't know you signed up for when you

[11:39] decided to become a Healer and as a

[11:42] reminder we're continuing to roll out
