This complete copywriting tutorial covers actionable tips and formulas for writing persuasive sales copy. The author, drawing from experience with seven-figure sales letters, shares strategies like using Reddit for customer language, short sentences, specific headlines, FOMO, and the AIDA formula.
Go to subreddits where your target audience hangs out and note the exact words and phrases they use to describe problems and desires. These can be used directly in your copy.
Data shows short sentences are 711% easier to read and understand. Keep sentences as short as possible to maintain reader engagement.
Keep readers hooked by adding elements that compel them to continue reading, such as cliffhangers, incomplete stories, or intriguing statements that push to the next sentence.
Headlines that are specific and detailed (e.g., 'How to cook a keto meal in 10 minutes') outperform generic ones. 80% of people read headlines but only 20% read the body.
FOMO can make copy 10 times more effective. Use scarcity and time-limited offers to create urgency and encourage immediate action.
The lead (first few sentences after the headline) is crucial. Use a hook in the first or second sentence and keep the lead short (around six lines) before transitioning to the main content.
Condense a story into 4-5 lines to hook readers quickly. Mini-stories are effective in sales letters and can build emotional connection without lengthy narratives.
AIDA stands for Attention, Interest, Desire, Action. Use it to structure sales pages, video scripts, and emails. Start with a hook (Attention), build interest with a bold promise, create desire, and end with a call to action.
Benefits sell, not features. For example, instead of 'productivity software with time tracking', say 'reclaim 2 hours of your day'. Focus on how the product improves the customer's life.
Don't ignore common objections like 'It's too expensive' or 'I'll wait.' Instead, raise and squash them in your copy, similar to overcoming the 'friend zone' by being direct.
Talk to customers to uncover their language and objections. Use follow-up questions to dig deep. Their words can be used to create authentic testimonials and copy.
When starting out, you need social proof to get sales, but you need sales to get social proof. Use pre-sales, showcase early results with few customers, or offer freebies to generate testimonials.
Structure testimonials with three parts: Before (customer's problem), After (results achieved), and Bridge (recommendation). This makes testimonials more believable and persuasive.
Crooked numbers (e.g., 87 instead of 100) appear more believable and specific. Use them in headlines, statistics, and offers to increase credibility.
Copywriting is a skill anyone can learn by focusing on key principles: understanding your audience, writing clearly, and using proven formulas like AIDA. Apply these tips to any sales copy to see significant improvements in engagement and conversions.
