Not All YouTube Views Are Equal
46sOpens with a surprising income disparity between niches, immediately grabbing viewer attention.
▶ Play ClipThis video explains that YouTube ad revenue (RPM) varies significantly by niche, from $3 to $25+ per 1,000 views, depending on advertiser demand. The creator shares real data from 10 niches and emphasizes that selling your own products or affiliate offers can dramatically boost earnings beyond ad revenue alone.
A channel with 100,000 views in one niche might earn $300, while another in a different niche could earn $3,000. RPM is the revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube's 45% cut.
YouTube's ad revenue is based on a bidding system. Advertisers like Apple (tech) and Expedia (travel) bid on keywords, so tech and travel niches have higher RPMs.
You can earn over $100 per 1,000 views by selling your own or affiliate products. Use tools like Google Gemini to find affiliate products for your niche.
RPM: $12–$25 per 1,000 views. Advertisers include investment platforms, trading courses, and Bitcoin. Older audiences with disposable income drive higher rates.
RPM: $5–$15 per 1,000 views. High affiliate commissions (30–50% recurring) from AI tools like Tube Magic and Vid.ai. Simple screen recordings work well.
RPM: ~$5 per 1,000 views for entertainment-style content. But business advice videos can reach $10–$20 per 1,000 views.
RPM: $8–$12 per 1,000 views. People have urgent problems to solve (health, wealth, happiness), driving advertiser interest.
RPM: $8–$15 per 1,000 views (higher for US-focused content). Evergreen content like 'top 10 places' can get views for years. Cruise niche has low competition.
RPM: Not explicitly stated but high due to being a major life pillar. You can sell communities, books, or use simple animations (e.g., Canva).
RPM: $7–$10 per 1,000 views. Pet owners seek advice, and pet companies advertise heavily. Examples: Doggy Digs, Purring Journal.
RPM: $3–$4 per 1,000 views (low). Can be increased with very long videos (5+ hours) and more ads. Not recommended unless you're passionate.
RPM: ~$11 per 1,000 views. Focus on top 10 lists or celebrity discussions (not re-uploading copyrighted content). Limited to ad revenue only.
RPM: $5–$10 per 1,000 views. Use original voice-over (AI or human) and make long videos (30+ minutes). Sleep content is booming.
"The title accurately reflects the content: the video lists 10 niches and their RPM ranges based on real data, though the exact numbers are estimates."
What does RPM stand for and how is it calculated?
RPM stands for Revenue Per Mille (per 1,000 views). It is the amount you keep after YouTube takes its 45% cut, based on advertiser bids.
[0:13]
Which two major advertisers drive high RPMs in tech and travel niches?
Apple (for tech keywords) and Expedia (for travel keywords) are among the top advertisers on YouTube.
[1:29]
What is the RPM range for personal finance and investing channels?
$12 to $25 per 1,000 views.
[3:18]
Why does the travel niche have a wide RPM range ($8–$15)?
It depends on audience geography: US-focused content can hit $15, while international audiences bring it down to $5.
[7:48]
What is the RPM for scary story channels and how can it be increased?
$3–$4 per 1,000 views. It can be increased by making very long videos (5+ hours) with more ads.
[10:30]
What is the recommended approach for meditation channels to achieve higher RPM?
Use original voice-over (human or AI) and create long videos (30+ minutes) to push RPM past $10–$15 per 1,000 views.

[4:47][00:00] Not all YouTube views are created equal.
[00:02] A channel getting $100,000 views in one
[00:04] niche might make $300, but a different
[00:07] channel getting a 100,000 views in a
[00:10] different niche could be making $3,000.
[00:13] The difference is RPM, which is how much
[00:16] you actually keep and how much you
[00:17] actually make per,000 views after
[00:20] YouTube takes their 45% cut. And that's
[00:22] basically why choosing a really good
[00:24] niche matters. Now, I personally run a
[00:26] bunch of different YouTube channels
[00:28] across a bunch of different niches. And
[00:30] in this video, I want to go over 10
[00:31] different niches and go over exactly how
[00:34] much they're making per,000 views. And
[00:37] this is based on real data based off of
[00:38] my own personal experience talking with
[00:40] tons of people throughout my communities
[00:42] who actually run channels in these
[00:44] niches. Now, real quick before we get
[00:46] into the niches, what you need to
[00:47] understand about YouTube is that YouTube
[00:49] doesn't just have a clearcut, this niche
[00:51] makes this much per,000 views and this
[00:53] niche makes this much. It's not like
[00:55] that. It's based off of a bidding system
[00:57] of advertisers who bid on certain
[00:59] keywords and who put ads on specific
[01:01] videos in specific channels. We cannot
[01:04] control if an advertiser is going to put
[01:06] an ad on our videos or our channels. But
[01:08] what I've personally noticed is that
[01:10] over time once you grow a really big
[01:12] channel, you'll see your ad rates go up.
[01:13] So your RPM can fluctuate a lot as your
[01:16] channel grows because advertisers will
[01:18] want to put ads on your channel
[01:19] specifically. But again, we can't
[01:21] control that. But the thing we can
[01:22] control is choosing a subject where
[01:24] advertisers want to put ads on those
[01:27] keywords. So if you look into who the
[01:29] top advertisers on YouTube are, it's
[01:31] companies like Apple. Now what keywords
[01:33] is Apple going to be putting their ads
[01:35] on? It's going to be techreated videos.
[01:37] Another one of the top advertisers is
[01:39] Expedia. They're going to be putting
[01:40] their ads on travel related videos. So
[01:43] both of those niches are going to be
[01:44] higher than average when it comes to
[01:46] their RPM. And in this video, I'll break
[01:48] down what their RPMs are, as well as how
[01:50] much money a lot of the top niches on
[01:53] YouTube are making per thousand views,
[01:55] so that you can make an informed
[01:56] decision as to, hey, should I get into
[01:58] this niche or should I not? And I'll
[02:00] also talk about some of the nuances with
[02:02] this as well if you can make money in
[02:03] other ways also. Because even though
[02:05] something might not have the perfect CPM
[02:07] or RPM, you might be able to sell
[02:09] something in that niche, but that's
[02:11] usually not the case. Because if you
[02:13] think about it, if an advertiser is
[02:15] going to pay a lot of money to put an ad
[02:17] on your channel, it would stand to
[02:19] reason that you could also sell
[02:21] something from that channel because
[02:22] they're putting the ad on that video
[02:24] because they're presumably planning on
[02:25] making that money back. So, why don't
[02:27] you sell something from your channel as
[02:28] well? And that's how you can bump up
[02:30] your RPMs to be making over $100 per
[02:33] thousand views. And that's what I
[02:34] personally do on a lot of my different
[02:36] channels. So, I just want to say make
[02:37] sure to sell something from your
[02:38] channel, whether it's an affiliate
[02:39] product or something else. You can go on
[02:41] something like Google Gemini and ask it
[02:43] find me affiliate products for my
[02:45] channel in this niche and then you can
[02:46] do that and that way you can actually be
[02:49] selling something from your channel. And
[02:50] I'm actually creating a platform called
[02:52] Moon where people can make their own
[02:53] digital products and sell them from
[02:55] their channels where they can make their
[02:56] own moon which is basically their own
[02:58] corner of the internet that they own
[03:00] where they can sell digital products and
[03:01] AI versions of themsel and everything
[03:03] else. And that's how you can make over
[03:05] $100 per thousand views. So, now let's
[03:07] get into the niches. Starting with niche
[03:08] number one, which is personal finance
[03:10] and investing. Now, what I personally
[03:13] have seen from running channels in this
[03:14] niche and talking with a lot of people
[03:16] with channels within this niche is that
[03:18] this niche can make anywhere from $12 to
[03:21] $25 per,000 views. And this is because a
[03:24] lot of investment platforms advertise on
[03:27] YouTube as well as trading courses,
[03:29] financial services, as well as Bitcoin
[03:32] ads and everything else. They're going
[03:33] to be putting their ads on financial
[03:35] related videos. Even myself, I sell a
[03:37] program on how to grow on YouTube and
[03:39] make YouTube into a business. I'm going
[03:41] to be putting my ads on keywords related
[03:43] to financial subjects, anything related
[03:45] to money and making money and growing a
[03:47] business. So, I'm contributing to that
[03:49] RPM. Now, channels like Chris Invest are
[03:51] a great example of a completely faceless
[03:53] channel within this niche that's doing
[03:54] incredibly well. He makes super simple
[03:56] whiteboard videos. You could literally
[03:57] just use something like Videocribe to do
[03:59] that. And also the audience within this
[04:01] niche skews older and older people tend
[04:03] to have disposable income which is what
[04:06] advertisers want. And so I've actually
[04:08] thought it might be a really good idea
[04:09] to run a channel targeted towards older
[04:12] people in finances. That could be huge
[04:14] and feel free to steal that idea. Plus
[04:16] you can sell things yourself within this
[04:17] niche. You're not just limited to the
[04:19] RPM. Obviously you should be selling
[04:21] something if you're within this niche. I
[04:23] would actually highly recommend that you
[04:25] either are an affiliate for different
[04:27] investment platforms if you're doing
[04:28] like an investment channel for example.
[04:30] And something I want to note as well is
[04:31] that the RPMs can start lower within
[04:34] these niches and then get bigger over
[04:35] time because as we mentioned advertisers
[04:37] will put ads on your videos. That's why
[04:39] the range is so big. Don't expect to be
[04:41] making $25 per thousand views right off
[04:44] the jump when you get monetized, but it
[04:45] can advance to that amount. Now, niche
[04:47] number two is technology and AI
[04:50] tutorials. AI content is absolutely
[04:52] crushing it right now. New tools are
[04:54] launching all the time. There's always
[04:56] some news happening related to AI and
[04:58] there's millions of people out there
[05:00] searching on YouTube trying to figure
[05:01] out how to use them. And so the RPM for
[05:04] this niche is anywhere from $5 to $15
[05:07] per,000 views. Now, if you talk about AI
[05:09] in the context of, for example, making
[05:11] money, that is going to be a higher RPM.
[05:13] Just make sure not to promise any
[05:15] specific dollar amounts or anything
[05:16] about how much people could potentially
[05:18] make because YouTube has been cracking
[05:20] down on channels that post videos like
[05:22] easy way to make $500 a day. And I've
[05:24] had some problems with my own channel
[05:25] where I had to delete a bunch of videos
[05:26] and everything. So don't fall into that
[05:28] trap. But you can give tutorials. You
[05:29] can talk about the latest AI news. And
[05:31] the real money when it comes to this
[05:33] niche, if you're going to do it though,
[05:35] would be affiliate commissions because
[05:37] you could literally be an affiliate for
[05:39] every single AI tool that you talk
[05:40] about. And a lot of them can pay 30 to
[05:42] 50% recurring commissions for life. For
[05:46] example, I have an AI tool called Tube
[05:47] Magic that writes god tier YouTube
[05:49] scripts and we give a 50% recurring
[05:52] commission for life for people who do
[05:54] that. And multiple people make full-time
[05:56] incomes literally just off of promoting
[05:58] that tool. I've got another tool called
[05:59] Vid.ai and we give 30% commissions for
[06:02] life. And the cool thing about this
[06:03] niche is that the videos are pretty easy
[06:05] to make. You can just do super simple
[06:06] screen recordings, no fancy editing
[06:08] required, and these videos can do super
[06:11] well. Now, the third niche we're going
[06:12] to be talking about is business
[06:14] documentaries. And this is going to
[06:16] hover around $5 per thousand views. But
[06:18] you might be thinking, "Okay, Matt, but
[06:20] it's in the business niche. Wouldn't
[06:21] businesses want to be putting ads on
[06:23] these types of videos?" And while that
[06:24] is true, the audience that this attracts
[06:26] are mostly people who are into
[06:28] entertainment style videos and not
[06:30] necessarily looking to solve a problem
[06:32] within their own life. Now, if you're
[06:34] doing more so of a business story
[06:35] channel that is about how the businesses
[06:38] have succeeded and the things that you
[06:40] can take away from the business and
[06:41] giving actual business advice to people,
[06:44] then you can make a lot more. Then it
[06:46] could be 10, 15, $20 per thousand views
[06:49] depending on the keywords that you use.
[06:50] However, for the majority of people, if
[06:52] you're just talking about it in an
[06:54] entertainment aspect, like most of the
[06:56] big channels like Magnets Media, for
[06:57] example, do then it's going to be a lot
[07:00] less. Now, niche number four is health
[07:02] and fitness. And channels like Natural
[07:04] Cures, Body Hub, and Yellow Dude are
[07:07] great examples of channels within this
[07:08] niche that are doing incredibly well.
[07:10] And channels within this niche, from
[07:12] what I've seen, can make around $8 to
[07:14] $12 per thousand views. And that's
[07:16] really good. And I don't know if you're
[07:18] seeing the pattern here, but essentially
[07:20] niches where people have problems that
[07:22] they want to desperately solve. Whether
[07:23] it's related to health, wealth,
[07:26] happiness, finances, all of these
[07:28] subjects are things that people
[07:29] typically have problems in that they
[07:31] want to solve. and advertisers are going
[07:33] to target those people driving the RPMs
[07:35] in this niche up. Now, niche number five
[07:38] is travel. And this niche can make
[07:40] anywhere from $8 to $15 per thousand
[07:42] views. And we talked about travel
[07:44] because huge companies like Expedia are
[07:46] some of the top advertisers on YouTube.
[07:48] And of course, this is going to vary a
[07:49] lot depending on your audience geography
[07:51] because if you do US focused travel
[07:53] content, that's when you can hit $15
[07:55] RPMs. But if you get mostly
[07:57] international audiences, that can bring
[07:59] it down closer to $5. The cool thing
[08:02] about this niche as well is that a lot
[08:03] of the content is evergreen because if
[08:05] you do a top 10 places to visit in Japan
[08:07] type of video, that's something that can
[08:09] get views for years and years in the
[08:11] future. And there's also channels like
[08:12] Jetet Genius, for example, that produce
[08:14] videos related to tips and tricks for
[08:17] air travel that do incredibly good. So
[08:18] you can do tutorial-based videos about
[08:20] how to travel on planes. There's also
[08:22] channels like Cruise Like a Pro that do
[08:24] cruise related videos and all the tips
[08:26] and tricks for having the best cruise of
[08:27] your life. And there's probably not much
[08:29] competition in that niche. I personally
[08:30] haven't ran a channel in this cruise
[08:32] niche specifically, but if I were to
[08:34] guess, I would think that those would be
[08:36] very high RPMs because I have seen a lot
[08:38] of cruise ads on YouTube. I don't think
[08:40] there's much competition, especially
[08:41] when it comes to educational
[08:42] cruise-based videos. Niche number six is
[08:45] relationships and dating. And health,
[08:47] wealth, and relationships are some of
[08:48] the biggest pillars in all of our lives.
[08:50] And relationships doesn't just have to
[08:52] be limited to dating either. It can also
[08:54] be related to business relationships you
[08:56] have. It can be related to interpersonal
[08:58] family relationships, friendships, and
[09:00] knowing the psychology of how to
[09:01] influence people. And channels like Bry
[09:03] Hart, for example, use super simple
[09:05] stick figure animations made entirely in
[09:07] Canva and pull millions of views. You
[09:09] could also easily sell a community on
[09:11] the side for this or you could sell
[09:12] books and other things. And my upcoming
[09:14] platform, Moon, will be absolutely
[09:16] perfect for this. Now, niche number
[09:17] seven is pets. Now, this is kind of a
[09:19] relationship type of channel as well,
[09:21] due to the fact that pets are a huge
[09:23] part of a lot of people's lives. I
[09:25] personally grew up with a lot of dogs
[09:26] and cats as well. And when I was
[09:27] teaching my dog tricks and I was raising
[09:29] them for the first time, I would always
[09:30] learn a ton by watching YouTube videos
[09:32] and a lot of other people do this as
[09:33] well. So, the pet niche can actually be
[09:36] incredibly huge because you can give
[09:37] amazing advice to other pet owners and
[09:40] plus you're giving pets a better quality
[09:41] of life in doing so. And there's
[09:43] channels like Doggy Digs that do exactly
[09:45] this. They do fun fact videos as well as
[09:47] tutorial videos. And in the cat niche,
[09:49] you have channels like the Purring
[09:50] Journal, which do the exact same thing,
[09:52] but just for cats. And the RPM for this
[09:54] niche would be around $7 to $10 per
[09:56] thousand views. There are a lot of pet
[09:59] companies that advertise on these types
[10:01] of videos. Niche number eight is scary
[10:03] stories. Now, scary stories is an
[10:05] example of a niche that can get millions
[10:07] upon millions of views, but it is an
[10:09] entertainment niche. You're not going to
[10:10] be selling something in this niche. And
[10:12] I know a lot of people who run scary
[10:13] story channels who've tried to do things
[10:15] like selling t-shirts and everything. it
[10:17] just does not work that well. The main
[10:19] money you're going to be making in this
[10:20] niche is going to be ad revenue. And
[10:22] while the RPM and the ad revenue is on
[10:24] the lower end for this one, it can be
[10:26] somewhat offset based on how many views
[10:29] that you can get within this niche. And
[10:30] the RPM that I've seen within this niche
[10:32] is $3 to $4 per,000 views. So again, a
[10:36] lot lower. I personally wouldn't
[10:37] recommend doing a channel in this niche
[10:39] unless it's something that you're just
[10:41] super passionate about and it's
[10:42] something that you love, then by all
[10:44] means feel free to do it. But just do it
[10:45] with the understanding that you're not
[10:47] going to be making as much per thousand
[10:49] views as a lot of the other niches that
[10:51] are out there. Now, one way you could
[10:53] increase the RPM within this niche
[10:55] significantly would be to create super
[10:58] long scary story videos. You could push
[11:01] it to 5, 10, even more dollars per
[11:03] thousand views. If you're creating
[11:05] multiple hour-long scary story videos
[11:07] and putting a lot of ads throughout
[11:09] those videos, that's one instance where
[11:11] you can make a lot more from this. And
[11:13] that's just one tip that you can use.
[11:14] Niche number nine is movies. And I'm not
[11:16] talking about re-uploading movies. You
[11:18] should not do that. That's how you get
[11:19] banned off of YouTube. In fact, it was
[11:21] in the news recently that a lot of AI
[11:23] channels that were producing AI
[11:24] generated movie trailers of copyrighted
[11:26] characters recently got taken down off
[11:28] of YouTube. So, don't do that. What I'm
[11:30] talking about is doing top 10 lists when
[11:31] it comes to movies, similar to channels
[11:33] like Looper or Watch Mojo or even
[11:35] talking about the different celebrities
[11:37] from different movies. And the movie
[11:38] niche is pretty good. You can make
[11:40] around $11 per thousand views for the
[11:42] RPM from it. Again, this is a broad
[11:44] generalization. It's going to differ a
[11:45] lot depending on a lot of different
[11:46] factors. However, that's about how much
[11:48] you can make. You can't really sell
[11:50] something from this niche. So, again,
[11:52] you're really just limited by the ad
[11:53] revenue. It's not the best niche in my
[11:55] personal opinion, but I just wanted to
[11:57] let you know how much you can make. And
[11:58] niche number 10 is meditation videos.
[12:01] This is a niche that trips a lot of
[12:02] people up because I see so many people
[12:04] doing it the wrong way where they just
[12:06] find some meditation audio online and
[12:07] then they just re-upload it as their own
[12:09] video. That's not the way to do this.
[12:11] there's way too much competition and
[12:13] that is not going to differentiate you
[12:14] from all the other channels out there
[12:16] and it's not going to allow you to
[12:17] create new original content. If you're
[12:19] going to do this niche, I would highly
[12:21] recommend having a verbal voice over
[12:23] whether it's your own voice or an AI
[12:25] voice giving a guided meditation. Now,
[12:27] if you're doing this and you're making
[12:28] 10, 20, 30 minute videos, the RPM for
[12:30] this is going to be around $5 to $10 per
[12:33] thousand views. However, this is an
[12:35] example of a niche where you might want
[12:36] to make super super long videos just
[12:38] like scary stories that'll push the RPM
[12:41] past 10, 15, even more dollars per
[12:43] thousand views like I've seen a lot of
[12:45] channels doing, especially channels
[12:47] making sleepreated content because TV
[12:49] viewing is exploding right now and
[12:51] longer content can do incredibly well.
[12:53] And no matter which niche that you
[12:55] choose, I highly recommend focusing on
[12:56] long content where you can put a lot of
[12:58] ads throughout your video which will
[13:00] drive your RPMs up. It'll keep people on
[13:02] YouTube, keep people on your channel,
[13:04] and stay in a niche ideally where you
[13:06] can sell something as well. In the
[13:07] meditation niche, for example, you could
[13:09] sell audio of meditations, and Moon will
[13:11] allow you to sell files like that. And
[13:12] now, to give you as much value as I can
[13:14] possibly give you, here are all of the
[13:16] different niches that I know as well as
[13:18] how much money that they make per
[13:20] thousand views. I'm just going to scroll
[13:22] through this list. Feel free to pause it
[13:23] at any point to try to find your niche
[13:25] of whatever niche you happen to be in.
[13:27] And feel free to screenshot it. So that
[13:29] way you know exactly how much you can
[13:31] expect to make per,000 views. So I hope
[13:33] this was super helpful. Now one thing I
[13:35] really want to say if you get anything
[13:37] from this video, make sure to be in a
[13:39] niche where you can sell something. And
[13:40] if you are, make sure that you actually
[13:42] do sell something from your channel
[13:44] using something like Moon. Make sure to
[13:46] sell something from your channel so you
[13:47] can make as much money as possible and
[13:49] make YouTube into a real business. I
[13:50] really just want to see you succeed on
[13:52] YouTube and that's how you do it. And if
[13:53] you want my personal help with doing all
[13:55] of this, you can check out Tube
[13:56] Accelerator, my program, down at the
[13:57] link in the description where you can
[13:58] book a call with my team and we can see
[14:00] if that's the right fit for you. And if
[14:02] you just want to get some more free
[14:03] value, feel free to check out this video

[14:06] exactly how to start a faceless YouTube
[14:09] automation business the right way right
[14:11] now. Feel free to check it out. My name
[14:12] is Matt Parr. Thanks for watching and
[14:14] I'll see you
