[00:04] hello my dear friends and welcome to

[00:06] thrive with trish

[00:09] today we're going to be talking about

[00:11] creator burnout we're going to be

[00:13] looking at what is creator burnout what

[00:15] are the consequences of burnout

[00:17] what are the warning signs what is my

[00:19] personal experience

[00:20] with creative burnout and what are the

[00:22] tips that has helped me

[00:23] to overcome this burnout so first of all

[00:26] what is creator burnout

[00:28] creative burnout is when a content

[00:30] creator whether or not you're a content

[00:31] creator on youtube

[00:32] instagram pinterest twitter anything

[00:35] which requires you to be

[00:36] creative and to create content creative

[00:39] burnout is a feeling of

[00:41] extreme exhaustion and you have that

[00:43] feeling of lack of pride

[00:45] in the content that you produce how does

[00:48] this burnout even come about

[00:50] well there's a couple of reasons which

[00:51] could cause this and one of them is

[00:53] because you're your own boss

[00:55] and therefore you put more pressure onto

[00:56] yourself perfectionism

[00:58] you spend a lot of time trying to turn

[01:00] out creative ideas

[01:01] you spend time editing you spend time

[01:04] publishing the content

[01:05] all this takes time and it puts

[01:07] unnecessary pressure

[01:09] onto yourself to feel like you need to

[01:11] stay

[01:12] relevant burnout can happen when you

[01:14] have too high stress levels and the

[01:16] cortisol in your brain

[01:17] blocks that ability in your brain to

[01:20] actually be creative

[01:21] here are some of the consequences of

[01:23] creative burnout excessive stress

[01:25] vulnerability to illnesses type 2

[01:27] diabetes

[01:28] fatigue insomnia irritability alcohol

[01:32] abuse

[01:32] heart disease and high blood pressure

[01:34] what are some of the warning signs

[01:36] to know if you might be experiencing

[01:38] creative burnout go ahead and ask

[01:40] yourself

[01:41] some of these questions do you like the

[01:43] energy to be consistently productive

[01:46] do you drag yourself to work and have

[01:48] trouble getting started

[01:50] have you become critical or cynical at

[01:53] work

[01:54] have you become irritable or impatient

[01:57] with your family members

[01:58] co-workers customers clients do you find

[02:01] it hard to concentrate

[02:04] are you troubled by unexplained stomach

[02:06] pain

[02:07] bowel pain physical pain headaches do

[02:10] you lack

[02:10] satisfaction from your own achievements

[02:13] are you using food

[02:14] alcohol or even drugs to feel better

[02:17] also simply

[02:18] not feel anything have your sleep habits

[02:21] changed if you answered yes to most of

[02:24] these questions

[02:25] then chances are you may just be

[02:27] experiencing

[02:28] creative burnout my experience with

[02:30] creative burnout happened sometime end

[02:32] of last year

[02:33] just before i went for a one month

[02:34] holiday with my family to asia and

[02:37] australia there was a couple of things

[02:38] that contributed to

[02:40] why this burnout happened for me but

[02:43] basically there was

[02:44] two main elements youtube and instagram

[02:46] i wanted to create

[02:48] content for the month ahead because i

[02:51] knew that i wouldn't have time during my

[02:54] holiday to

[02:55] record edit and publish and so therefore

[02:58] i had to prepare all my content about a

[03:01] month

[03:01] ahead all within a short period time of

[03:03] about two weeks it was insane

[03:05] also for instagram at this point of time

[03:08] i

[03:08] remember that there was some changes to

[03:10] the algorithm

[03:11] and my instagram accounts were kind of

[03:14] stagnant in growth

[03:16] that really gave me unnecessary pressure

[03:19] so the tactic which i wanted to try in

[03:21] order to

[03:22] push my instagram account to grow more

[03:24] was to come up with

[03:26] more content so from posting two times a

[03:29] week

[03:29] i upped it to four times a week that

[03:32] means double the time of work

[03:34] double the time of trying to think of

[03:36] content ideas

[03:37] everything doubled stress also doubled

[03:40] my symptoms of burnout were i

[03:42] couldn't really fall asleep i was easily

[03:44] irritable

[03:45] my scalp was hurting there were pimples

[03:48] it was

[03:49] painful i couldn't even put my head down

[03:51] sometimes to sleep properly

[03:52] i wasn't feeling as creative or inspired

[03:55] as i normally do

[03:57] so yeah it was pretty bad here are some

[04:00] of the tips which have helped

[04:01] me to overcome this burnout which i

[04:04] really do hope you find these tips

[04:06] helpful

[04:07] number one take time to socialize don't

[04:10] forget that

[04:10] we human beings are really social

[04:13] creatures

[04:14] now when you're a content creator it is

[04:16] so easy to feel

[04:17] isolated to feel alone you're talking to

[04:19] the camera 24 7 or maybe

[04:22] with your phone 24 7 you know managing

[04:24] comments

[04:25] creating content you're just locked up

[04:26] in your room the complete day

[04:28] by yourself how is it not possible to

[04:32] feel

[04:32] lonely as i've shared in one of my

[04:34] previous videos about

[04:35] having balance in your life i mentioned

[04:37] about the wheel of life and if you

[04:39] did watch that video and if not i'm

[04:41] gonna put a link up here

[04:42] what is really important is to realize

[04:45] there are

[04:46] certain aspects in our lives which is

[04:48] really important and we cannot just

[04:49] ignore it if not we will feel out of

[04:52] whack and

[04:52] there is no sense of balance in our

[04:54] lives and one of these parts

[04:56] is socializing with your friends and

[04:58] your family

[04:59] so please to make it a point that at

[05:02] least every few days or at least

[05:04] once a week block time out just to meet

[05:07] your good friends or

[05:08] go with your family have a good laugh

[05:10] watch a nice movie have a nice meal

[05:12] go for a walk whichever that it is but

[05:14] take time

[05:15] for socializing number two create

[05:18] because it brings you meaning

[05:20] not to please i completely get it maybe

[05:23] you created a good

[05:24] post or a good video and on this

[05:27] particular post or video you get lots of

[05:30] likes lots of subscribers lots of good

[05:32] feedback

[05:33] and we human beings we always want to

[05:35] progress forwards

[05:36] and upwards nobody likes to feel like

[05:38] they're going backwards in terms of

[05:40] progress

[05:41] and so if ever we have maybe a thumbs

[05:43] down

[05:44] or we have some bad comments that comes

[05:46] our way it's really easy to

[05:48] take it personally i can understand it

[05:51] but i also want to gently remind you we

[05:54] can't please everyone and i've said this

[05:56] a million times but it and it's true it

[05:58] really it's true think about it

[06:00] no two people can really always think

[06:03] alike and

[06:04] always agree with each other so how to

[06:06] manage negative feedback

[06:08] or your own expectations of yourself to

[06:11] try and be

[06:12] perfect number one remind yourself that

[06:15] this channel

[06:15] or your account whatever creative piece

[06:19] that you are creating

[06:20] you are creating it because you are

[06:22] passionate about it

[06:23] remind yourself of what your aim and

[06:25] your goal is you want to help

[06:27] and inspire people through your thoughts

[06:29] through your experiences

[06:31] through your knowledge people who share

[06:33] the same values and beliefs as you

[06:35] will love you and stay by you and

[06:37] support you and those who don't

[06:39] please don't take it personally because

[06:41] the world is diverse we are all

[06:43] different we all have different points

[06:45] of view and it's a beautiful thing

[06:47] if you look at my account you can also

[06:49] see that there are some videos

[06:51] okay with 100 likes which thank god

[06:53] thank you very much

[06:54] but there are also videos with a thumbs

[06:57] down does it hurt me

[06:58] yes it does to some extent but am i

[07:01] gonna keep focusing

[07:02] on that no because i would rather focus

[07:04] on

[07:05] the majority of people who are actually

[07:07] loving my content and

[07:08] sharing their honest feedback with me

[07:10] about how my

[07:12] thoughts and my content has inspired

[07:14] them

[07:15] to improve their channel or improve

[07:17] their lives overall

[07:18] try and train your brain to focus on the

[07:20] good that you have created in the world

[07:22] and not just on the negative feedback

[07:25] number two diversify your income nothing

[07:27] is certain

[07:27] so try not to just focus on one source

[07:30] of income

[07:31] when possible try to diversify it

[07:33] whether or not it's true

[07:34] investing or buying property or maybe

[07:37] creating merchandise or maybe selling a

[07:38] book

[07:39] try to diversify your income as much as

[07:42] possible number three save and have

[07:45] enough for a rainy day

[07:46] because we never know what might happen

[07:52] moving on to tip number three focus on

[07:54] quality over quantity

[07:56] as i shared just now one of the reasons

[07:58] why i felt creative burnout was because

[07:59] i was trying to turn out

[08:01] too much content in a really short

[08:03] period of time

[08:04] yes many youtube gurus or instagram

[08:07] gurus or any

[08:08] social media guru will tell you that

[08:10] creating more content

[08:12] increases your chances of positive

[08:14] growth

[08:15] yes that is true but i also implore you

[08:18] to

[08:18] please remind yourself and think is it

[08:22] really

[08:22] feasible for you for me it isn't simply

[08:25] because

[08:26] i am a mother of one i have my

[08:28] counseling business on the side so i

[08:30] have

[08:30] clients that i need to also manage and

[08:33] also i don't always talk about this

[08:36] but i actually have a part-time job

[08:38] doing hr in a company

[08:40] and so when you put all this together i

[08:42] cannot compare myself

[08:44] with a person who might be living a

[08:46] single life

[08:47] and doesn't have any kids is a full-time

[08:50] youtuber and

[08:51] just has the time and the energy to keep

[08:54] on creating content

[08:55] every single day is just not possible

[08:58] for me i've learned my lesson

[09:00] and on instagram for example i cut down

[09:03] the frequency of my postings and that

[09:05] has really helped my sanity

[09:08] and my time management tremendously

[09:10] again

[09:11] please do what is feasible within your

[09:13] capabilities and

[09:14] stop comparing yourself to others number

[09:17] four

[09:18] take time to switch off this is a big

[09:21] one we as content creators we are our

[09:23] own boss

[09:24] and so our minds are constantly switched

[09:27] on

[09:27] we are thinking thinking about content

[09:29] ideas when do we need to pose what's our

[09:31] algorithm what's our results

[09:32] how does this person like my content but

[09:34] hey even machines they need to recharge

[09:37] and they need to be

[09:38] unplugged from time to time you my dear

[09:40] friend are only human

[09:41] just like me just like everyone else so

[09:43] if you push yourself to the limit and

[09:44] you forsake

[09:45] your own self-care your own health

[09:48] what good will it bring you may be able

[09:51] to produce more content in

[09:53] this short period of time but in the

[09:55] long term it will not

[09:57] benefit you in any way please my dear

[09:59] friends i understand you care a lot

[10:01] about your accounts

[10:02] you care a lot about your businesses but

[10:04] at the end of the day

[10:06] health is truly wealth prioritize

[10:10] your mental health your physical health

[10:13] above

[10:14] all else because without that nothing

[10:17] can work neither your private life or

[10:18] your social media accounts or your

[10:20] business

[10:20] will work i really do hope that you
