10:41[00:00] young creators are burning out it is no
[00:03] surprise that you're gonna see headlines
[00:05] from the new york times cnn and more
[00:08] with big bold headlines saying that
[00:10] creators are burning out right we're
[00:12] getting this news from some of our
[00:13] favorite media we're seeing titles like
[00:15] young creators are burning out and
[00:17] breaking down or youtube's top creators
[00:20] are breaking down in mass i think that
[00:23] this is a really important topic
[00:25] especially as a creator-centric channel
[00:27] here at sidewalker daily we are speaking
[00:29] to the creator and we need to speak
[00:31] about burnout it's rampant in our
[00:34] industry i'm seeing it happen to so many
[00:36] of the creators in my community so
[00:39] what i want to do for today's video is i
[00:41] really want to talk about like what it
[00:43] is how to know if you have it um why
[00:45] it's happening and then dig into some
[00:47] solutions
[00:49] some solutions that i think are tried
[00:51] and true because we are getting feedback
[00:54] from creators who have suffered from
[00:56] burnout and are coming back and being
[00:58] like this was this is what i did um and
[01:01] especially as you know again a channel
[01:03] that is dedicated to the creator i want
[01:05] to make sure that we nip this in the
[01:08] butt before you even get burned out so
[01:10] hopefully you can watch this video
[01:11] before you're on burnout um to prevent
[01:14] it from actually happening now in terms
[01:16] of a definition for a creator when a
[01:18] creator is going through burnout they
[01:20] are really feeling highly unmotivated
[01:22] the things that they used to love to do
[01:25] they no longer like to do
[01:27] we have seen depression being linked to
[01:29] depression um being linked to a loss of
[01:32] energy just overall a feeling of feeling
[01:36] burned out i mean that's why the word is
[01:38] called burnout right like feeling like
[01:40] you have nothing left to give um and
[01:43] it's really obviously
[01:45] strongly linked to mental health it's
[01:47] something that
[01:48] the need for creators to be constantly
[01:51] posting constantly doing it and we'll
[01:53] get into that in a little bit but it's
[01:55] without a doubt that if you don't take
[01:57] care of yourself and set up some
[01:58] boundaries you are going to burn out
[02:00] it's not a matter of if but when if
[02:03] you're not protecting yourself
[02:05] and creating systems that will protect
[02:07] you from getting there now think about
[02:09] how many people identify as creators
[02:11] know whether it's a youtuber tick talker
[02:14] instagrammer on twitch twitter like
[02:17] linkedin creators are on all platforms
[02:20] producing massive amounts of content a
[02:22] day we know that you know creator
[02:25] burnout is something that so many people
[02:27] deal what will that look like for our
[02:29] society in a whole right if we don't
[02:31] take measures to prevent it and to do
[02:34] the work now ahead of time i think that
[02:36] for the outsider when you're not in a
[02:38] creator you know when you're not a
[02:39] creator they think being a creator is
[02:41] like so glamorous it's so fun oh my gosh
[02:43] you just post content for a living but
[02:45] you guys and i know that that is not the
[02:47] truth right that it is so much more than
[02:50] what meets the video what meets the eye
[02:51] what meets the post it's coming up with
[02:54] the concept shooting it editing it
[02:57] shooting it again because you messed up
[02:59] um you know all the things of producing
[03:01] the actual content and that's just the
[03:03] tip of the iceberg right because
[03:06] the more and more creators are doing
[03:07] this full-time and doing this as a
[03:09] business then they have to deal with the
[03:10] avalanche of being an entrepreneur and a
[03:12] business owner i always say creators
[03:15] don't realize that they're actually
[03:16] entrepreneurs and business owners they
[03:18] kind of just think that they're these
[03:19] like creative little beings but in fact
[03:21] you are building a business right that
[03:23] means taxes that means all the
[03:25] administrative work that requires
[03:27] setting up a business and running one
[03:29] and hiring people and outsourcing and
[03:32] like literally all the things right
[03:34] comes to no surprise that so many
[03:35] creators are feeling like the sense of
[03:38] overwhelm but don't worry because
[03:39] today's video is going to give you some
[03:42] good insights on how to prevent it from
[03:44] happening i do want to state that i am
[03:46] not a believer in quick fixes i don't
[03:48] think like taking a day off um is going
[03:51] to relieve you of burnout
[03:54] a lot of times it requires doing a
[03:55] little bit more self digging and
[03:57] understanding the symptoms of it um
[03:59] instead of you know i don't think it's
[04:01] just taking some time to realize that
[04:04] you really need to self-analyze like why
[04:06] are you feeling this way um and then
[04:09] come up with a plan and i'm gonna help
[04:10] you and start recognizing the patterns
[04:12] that are leading to your burnout i think
[04:14] the biggest sign of burnout is when you
[04:16] don't want to do something that you used
[04:17] to love doing right that's like the
[04:20] biggest one yes there's depression lack
[04:21] of motivation um we're seeing all those
[04:24] other symptoms but i think if you love
[04:26] doing something like if you loved
[04:27] posting on tick tock and now it's like i
[04:29] don't want to post another video like if
[04:31] you're getting to there
[04:33] that is not a good sign i think that's
[04:35] what it looks like um when you are
[04:37] really feeling that sense of dread of
[04:39] doing the things that once brought you
[04:40] so much happiness
[04:42] and again let's talk about why creators
[04:44] are facing burnout right the number one
[04:46] reason being this unrealistic
[04:48] expectation to produce on every platform
[04:51] um producing for so many platforms is
[04:54] really really tiring producing for one
[04:56] is tiring enough imagine having to
[04:59] produce for all of them i think there's
[05:00] just also like a fear of the algorithm
[05:03] like if you don't post you're not gonna
[05:05] you know the algorithm is gonna punish
[05:07] you whether it be the youtube algorithm
[05:08] or their tic talk or instagram like
[05:09] there's this fear of algorithm and
[05:11] there's also this fear just kind of
[05:13] missing out like will i be forgotten if
[05:15] i don't post will people even care will
[05:17] i be replaced by another person i think
[05:20] so many people like they're watching
[05:22] they're spending their time on tick tock
[05:23] and they're seeing all these other tick
[05:24] tockers so they're like if i don't post
[05:26] you know they're going to get the
[05:27] attention or the business or the leads
[05:30] or whatever so there is a sense of like
[05:32] seeing other people do it and doing it
[05:34] so freely and like this constant
[05:37] comparison game that's what's driving us
[05:39] to go on this you know mode of having to
[05:42] constantly create there's this huge
[05:45] sense of competition on social we all do
[05:47] it we all say oh look they're doing so
[05:49] much more than us oh look they're on
[05:51] tick tock and we're not oh look they're
[05:52] on this and we're not so we have to do
[05:54] it we have to push ourselves we have to
[05:56] you know participate and this will lead
[05:58] to burnout if you don't have the systems
[06:00] in place so let's go ahead and talk
[06:02] about some solutions um that are going
[06:04] to help you the creator prevent this
[06:06] from happening and if it's already
[06:07] currently happening to you hopefully it
[06:09] will provide you with some questions
[06:11] answered and some relief so the first
[06:13] step is obviously recognizing it right
[06:15] being like okay
[06:17] i am burnt out this is no longer working
[06:19] for me um and in this moment you know
[06:22] depending on the severity of your
[06:23] burnout you are going to want to hit
[06:25] pause you need to hit pause because you
[06:27] need to find clarity to think all the
[06:29] things that you're afraid of fomo and
[06:31] the algorithm and all of that i'm here
[06:33] to tell you it can wait your mental
[06:35] health comes first you are nothing
[06:37] without your sanity so if you're gonna
[06:38] break down and you're not gonna even
[06:40] have a platform to post on if you're
[06:42] like not physically well so the first
[06:45] step is obviously we're gonna need to
[06:46] take a break and take pause the second
[06:48] thing i want you to do during this pause
[06:50] is take a look at your habits where are
[06:52] you spending most of your time on um are
[06:55] you on your phone all the time you know
[06:57] is there a way for you to track it to
[06:58] see how much time you're spending on
[07:00] your phone is this sucking up your
[07:02] energy and your drain and causing you to
[07:04] get into that competitive space i know
[07:07] for me like i always put my phone in the
[07:09] drawer during certain hours of the day
[07:11] there are even apps out there we just
[07:13] found the forest app that you can put to
[07:15] like kind of help you be more productive
[07:17] and focus and not spend the time again
[07:20] that the phone can end up doing and
[07:21] bringing us in take a look at your
[07:23] habits in the sense of what do you do
[07:24] for fun outside of work outside of
[07:26] content are you meditating are you
[07:28] spending time with friends and not
[07:30] shooting content um what are you
[07:32] investing your time in in your habits
[07:34] because a lot of maybe your burnout is
[07:36] coming from your poor habits right maybe
[07:38] you're just constantly in this space of
[07:41] content content content and what you
[07:42] need to do is kind of outline okay this
[07:44] is my content time and then this is my
[07:46] off time you know you may want to look
[07:47] into meditation or a morning routine or
[07:50] something that is completely quiet time
[07:53] and allows you the time you need to fuel
[07:55] your engine so for me at sidewalker one
[07:57] of the things that i started this year
[07:58] was a really good morning routine a 5
[08:01] a.m challenge i did it with the
[08:02] sidewalker daily inner circle community
[08:04] and it's been really really great
[08:06] because during that time i am not
[08:08] working it is not work time when i'm up
[08:10] at five it is not work time it's growth
[08:12] time it's reading it's journaling it's
[08:14] meditating it's all the things that help
[08:16] me in entrepreneurship um that fuel my
[08:19] engine so that i can be better at work
[08:22] if you guys are interested in any of
[08:23] those sort of topics also let me know in
[08:25] the comments below if you'd like to
[08:27] learn more about routines and systems
[08:29] that i personally use i'd love to create
[08:31] that type of content if you guys are
[08:33] interested in it the third thing that i
[08:35] think is going to help you if you are
[08:36] going through or if you're going if you
[08:38] feel like you're approaching burnout
[08:40] is to create some space between you and
[08:42] your work right so not only is it doing
[08:44] activities but a lot of times
[08:46] because you are your brand a lot of my
[08:48] creators and influencers they are
[08:50] forward-facing they are their own brands
[08:52] what happens is you get too emotionally
[08:54] attached and you need to create space
[08:56] between your physical persona and what
[08:59] you post online you have to remember you
[09:01] are not your work and you need to
[09:03] basically be focusing on the things that
[09:05] bring you joy that bring you excitement
[09:08] that light your soul on fire
[09:10] and find a way to delegate the rest
[09:12] especially if you're growing as a
[09:14] creator this is like a really important
[09:15] transition you're going to need to
[09:18] invest in help
[09:19] and i don't mean like mental health help
[09:21] that could be something as well but i
[09:22] mean help like get someone to help you
[09:25] with the things that you don't want to
[09:26] do and spend most of your time in the
[09:28] areas that you are really good at now
[09:30] i'm not gonna go like you know sugar
[09:32] coat it as a business owner creator
[09:34] entrepreneur you will need to do things
[09:36] that you don't like to do right that's
[09:38] just in all businesses the question is
[09:40] is how long are you doing those for and
[09:43] are you able to get someone to support
[09:46] you in those tasks so that you can do
[09:49] what you're really good at because if
[09:51] you're focusing on what you're really
[09:52] good at that's going to bring you in the
[09:54] most money and help your bottom line
[09:56] this comes to my next tip for burning
[09:58] out to helping prevent burnout is
[09:59] delegating tasks again as a creator you
[10:02] want to do it all you want to do every
[10:03] single piece of your business but you
[10:05] need to let go this is how you scale
[10:07] this is how you grow you need to let go
[10:11] get people to help you delegate tasks
[10:13] you know whether it's joining you know a
[10:15] fiverr or finding someone on upwork or
[10:17] getting an assistant or whatever it is
[10:19] delegate delegate delegate get stuff off
[10:22] your you know table um in order for you
[10:24] to flourish now if you're like i don't
[10:26] have the money to do so um you have to
[10:29] again think of this as a business you
[10:30] need to invest
[10:32] in this and the time and the money that
[10:34] you invest in having someone help you
[10:36] should be time that you are putting
[10:38] towards generating more revenue a huge
[10:41] way to help prevent burnout i have seen
[10:43] is join a community of people like you
[10:46] um here at sidewalker daily we have a
[10:48] creator community it's called the inner
[10:50] circle i'm obsessed with it we have
[10:52] weekly calls we're always in base and
[10:55] creators will come being like yeah i
[10:56] feel like really unproductive
[10:59] and that's okay right you have a safe
[11:01] space to kind of vent you have a safe
[11:03] space to see other creators that also
[11:05] may feel like how you do you need to
[11:06] find your people your tribe um you can't
[11:09] do it alone okay you can't be in a
[11:11] little room creating content all day
[11:12] alone you need your humans that is
[11:14] what's going to help you push through
[11:16] especially when you feel super down and
[11:19] low and again i will leave a link to our
[11:21] inner circle it is a waitlist program
[11:24] but go ahead and sign up the waitlist is
[11:25] always opening it's on a rolling
[11:27] admission so go ahead and sign up so you
[11:29] can be a part of our community i think
[11:31] another great way to help a creator when
[11:33] they are
[11:34] experiencing either burnout or getting
[11:36] close to it is think about you know an
[11:38] accomplishment
[11:39] think about something that used to
[11:41] excite you in your biz
[11:43] and a lot of times it's like finding
[11:44] inspiration inspiration is not something
[11:47] that i don't think will just come to you
[11:49] you have to go look for it i find it
[11:52] really hard getting inspired in my
[11:53] office on my desk sitting looking at the
[11:55] computer
[11:56] it's just not my zone right i'm inspired
[11:59] when i'm out in nature when i'm out when
[12:00] i'm in new places around art around
[12:02] creative people smart people networking
[12:05] that's when i'm inspired that's when i
[12:06] feel alive so you need to find where do
[12:09] you feel alive
[12:10] where does the inspiration come to you
[12:12] where and next time you are in a moment
[12:14] of inspo and you feel those floodgates
[12:16] coming in and you're like on a high
[12:18] remember it so you can go back and
[12:20] revisit it when you are feeling again a
[12:22] bit down anyways guys i know today's
[12:24] topic was a tough one and i hope that if
[12:26] you are
[12:27] feeling any sense of burnout you are
[12:29] getting the help that you need whether
[12:31] it be professional help or business
[12:33] support um make sure that you do invest
[12:35] in yourself because remember without
[12:37] your sanity you are nothing and the
[12:38] platform is nothing and it all means
[12:40] nothing if you're not doing well
[12:42] i hope you guys enjoyed today's video
[12:44] let me know in the comments what you've
[12:46] done to prevent burnout in the past for
[12:48] you you never know who you're inspiring
[12:50] along the way leave that comment we can
[12:52] all learn and share together and i will
[12:54] see you guys in the next video
