AI Summary

Austin switches from Apple to the cheapest Samsung setup, including phone, laptop, tablet, watch, and earbuds, all for under $700. He finds the experience mixed, with some devices being surprisingly good value while others are frustratingly slow or buggy.

[0:00]
Switching to Samsung

Austin announces he's switching to a Samsung setup that costs less than a single iPhone, with all devices bought new from Samsung.

[0:21]
Galaxy A07 Phone

The Galaxy A07 costs $97, is an international model not sold in the US, and comes without US warranty but with six years of software updates.

[1:32]
Galaxy Chromebook Go

A $191 Chromebook with a dual-core 1GHz processor and 4GB RAM, which Austin finds very slow and with a poor screen.

[2:40]
Galaxy Tab A11

A $169 tablet that is actually an international model (A9+), with a small screen and buggy performance.

[4:10]
Galaxy Watch FE

A $170 smartwatch with LTE (unexpectedly), but suffers from poor battery life and Bluetooth disconnection issues.

[5:18]
Galaxy Buds Core

$53 earbuds that Austin finds fantastic for the price, with decent active noise cancellation.

[10:18]
Swapping Devices

Austin returns the Chromebook and A07, replacing them with a $65 Galaxy Book Go (Windows laptop with 5G) and a Galaxy A17 phone with OLED screen, saving $3 overall.

[14:48]
Final Verdict

After a week, Austin recommends the Galaxy Buds Core and Galaxy Book Go, finds the A17 decent, but does not recommend the Watch FE or Tab A11 due to bugs and crashes.

The cheapest Samsung setup is a mixed bag: some devices like the Buds Core and Book Go offer great value, while others like the Watch FE and Tab A11 are disappointing. Overall, it's possible to get a functional Samsung ecosystem for under $700, but careful selection is key.

[00:00] - Goodbye Apple.

[00:01] Today I'm switching to a Samsung setup

[00:04] that costs less than the

[00:06] Now I tried this before

[00:08] but with that video, I

[00:11] This time around I was able

[00:12] to get everything brand

[00:14] We're talking about phone, laptop, tablet,

[00:17] smart watch, headphones, you name it.

[00:19] Starting out with, we have the phone.

[00:21] Now Samsung makes some very cheap devices.

[00:24] So as far as I understand,

[00:25] the Galaxy A07 actually isn't largely sold

[00:29] in the United States. So I

[00:31] In fact, it actually has

[00:32] This one was actually, I think,

[00:34] a Latin American version, right?

[00:36] - [Alex] Yes, that is correct.

[00:37] - Now, if I would have spent more money,

[00:38] of course I would get

[00:40] that we spent less than

[00:43] - [Alex] Yeah, absolutely.

[00:44] We paid $97.

[00:46] - For a fully functional

[00:50] Now, 100 bucks you probably would want

[00:52] to consider buying a used phone,

[00:53] but if this thing is brand

[00:55] comes with-

[00:56] - [Alex] Ah, well, okay,

[00:58] so remember that little asterisk

[00:59] where you can't buy this in the US.

[01:01] So that does mean that

[01:04] from Samsung on it,

[01:05] but you do still get like, you know,

[01:07] like six years of software updates.

[01:10] - Oh, I actually kind

[01:13] I mean, obviously plastic,

[01:16] but it actually kinda looks nice.

[01:17] It's got a little bit of texture on it.

[01:18] It feels kind of similar

[01:21] or something, like one of,

[01:24] It is unfortunately dead.

[01:25] So I'm gonna go ahead and

[01:27] It's probably sitting in

[01:29] Now, of course we've gotta

[01:32] Now I know what you're thinking.

[01:35] "Austin, you can't use a

[01:38] What are you a fifth grader?"

[01:41] I was once, but here's the thing.

[01:42] - [Alex] Who's saying this stuff?

[01:44] - I'm watching you Wazowski.

[01:47] - I will say out of the

[01:50] this Galaxy Chromebook is the one

[01:51] that I'm the least confident in.

[01:53] Alex, before I even open

[01:55] for the Galaxy Chromebook Go?

[01:58] - [Alex] We paid $191 for

[02:03] - So less than $200 for a laptop.

[02:05] Look, that's better than, like,

[02:07] Oh, it's actually small.

[02:08] Oh, okay, so it's just a huge

[02:11] Okay, got it.

[02:13] Doesn't look terrible.

[02:17] It's an interesting

[02:20] Not a huge amount...

[02:20] Well, okay, this is a

[02:22] Again, less than 200 bucks.

[02:24] We'll see how it is.

[02:25] I have low expectations,

[02:27] but, I mean, we're in

[02:30] we have a fully functioning

[02:34] So when I think about cheap Samsung stuff,

[02:37] my first instinct is

[02:40] So this is the Galaxy Tab A11.

[02:42] Now...

[02:43] - [Alex] Wait, A11?

[02:45] - Wait, the back of it says A9.

[02:48] The front of it says A11.

[02:49] - Sick.

[02:51] - [Adriana] A 911?

[02:55] - [Alex] I have an update that the A11,

[02:57] the non-plus, just regular A11,

[03:01] They only sell it in Latin America.

[03:03] And the kicker is if

[03:07] just this, whatever weird model on Amazon,

[03:11] it's cheaper than what we paid.

[03:13] - Okay, so we didn't get an upgrade.

[03:14] We got a downgrade.

[03:16] - [Alex] We did, yeah.

[03:16] So they're set for...

[03:17] Amazon is selling it for

[03:25] - So as you'd expect, it is

[03:27] that much bigger than our actual phone.

[03:28] But I will say I actually have

[03:31] 'cause again, Walmart sell a

[03:34] for less than 100 bucks.

[03:35] So this is a lot more.

[03:36] So this needs to not be garbage.

[03:40] Okay, that seems like metal I think.

[03:43] Oh my God.

[03:44] Well, Puerto Rico's here.

[03:46] This only lets you set up in a country

[03:48] or region in Latin America.

[03:50] (Alex laughing)

[03:53] Okay, while this restarts

[03:56] we're gonna go ahead and

[03:59] So, again, we're trying to do

[04:03] So we've got ourselves a phone,

[04:04] we've got ourselves a tablet,

[04:07] We also have to have a Galaxy Watch.

[04:10] Now I don't use Galaxy

[04:12] I've dabbled in them a bit.

[04:14] I'm not a huge smart watch guy,

[04:16] but this is the Galaxy Watch FE.

[04:19] I will say though, Alex.

[04:21] - Yes?

[04:23] Did I buy an LTE Galaxy Watch?

[04:25] - [Alex] It didn't say it was LTE.

[04:30] - Why is that so confusing?

[04:31] I just bought stuff off of Amazon.

[04:33] - [Alex] On the listing itself,

[04:35] for Bluetooth or LTE.

[04:37] - Yep.

[04:38] I did not pick LTE though.

[04:39] - [Alex] That is correct.

[04:39] We didn't buy the LTE version,

[04:41] but they cost exactly the same.

[04:43] So I guess they figured

[04:46] - What was the price

[04:47] that I paid versus what

[04:49] 'Cause I know that the

[04:51] that's why I didn't choose it.

[04:52] - [Alex] Yeah, so we paid $170.

[04:55] - A lot of money compared to

[04:57] but for a smart watch, you know...

[04:58] Well, I look forward

[05:00] to putting this one also

[05:02] It does have... Oh, I

[05:03] the little, like, little

[05:05] It looks nice.

[05:06] Nothing about this is

[05:08] oh, it looks like a budget smartwatch.

[05:10] I got my whole fleet of devices here.

[05:12] I got my phone, my laptop,

[05:13] my tablet, my watch all charging,

[05:15] but we're still missing

[05:18] Now to round our setup out,

[05:21] Now I've never used the Cores,

[05:22] but I actually am a big fan

[05:25] Correct me if I'm wrong here,

[05:26] the Galaxy Buds Core

[05:30] or widely used device, right?

[05:32] - [Alex] So this one

[05:34] that kind of was for other markets.

[05:38] - I will say, like, just at

[05:40] very similar to the,

[05:43] These Buds are kind like a

[05:45] where they have that kind

[05:47] of distinctive little, like, earbud shape

[05:48] where they have the little wing tip.

[05:50] We paid how much for these?

[05:51] - [Alex] We paid $53.

[05:53] - For 53 bucks,

[05:54] you can still get some decent

[05:57] but for Samsung stuff,

[05:59] I gotta say, while this is

[06:00] probably not the best Samsung

[06:04] For way less than the price of an iPhone,

[06:06] we've got an entire setup here.

[06:07] So lemme go ahead, get

[06:10] and see what is it like to live

[06:11] with the cheapest Samsung setup.

[06:14] So it has been 24 hours

[06:17] to my new Samsung gear

[06:19] and there's a lot to talk about.

[06:21] Some negative stuff for sure.

[06:23] But I would say largely positive,

[06:24] the number one word I would use is slow.

[06:28] These pieces of tech are

[06:31] Now, that shouldn't be

[06:32] how little I paid for them,

[06:34] but one area

[06:35] that's been less than stellar

[06:38] So for most phones these days,

[06:40] you can tap to turn the

[06:42] So I can click the button

[06:43] and it will turn on, and

[06:46] and it will unlock.

[06:50] I'll say there's a couple of areas

[06:52] that have been impressive on the A07.

[06:54] The camera is one.

[06:54] It doesn't have any stabilization

[06:56] so you have to make sure

[06:58] especially for video.

[06:59] But the photos, especially with that 48,

[07:01] or I think 50 megapixel

[07:04] The screen is bright enough.

[07:06] It's a little bit low res.

[07:07] It's only 720p on a 6.7 inch display.

[07:10] So you can definitely see the pixels

[07:13] and especially, like,

[07:15] on a white sort of background,

[07:16] it actually hurts my eyes a little bit.

[07:18] It actually looks straining

[07:21] and certain apps don't

[07:23] very well optimized for

[07:25] I knew what I was getting

[07:28] Obviously this stuff is very cheap, right?

[07:30] So, I'm a spoiled tech YouTuber who likes

[07:32] to play with all kind of fancy stuff.

[07:34] So going to the very cheap stuff has been

[07:35] a little bit of an adjustment.

[07:37] Generally speaking as

[07:40] the watch,

[07:41] I'm gonna make sure I fully charge again

[07:44] and see if maybe that battery

[07:46] That's my main concern there.

[07:47] The phone, I'm only

[07:49] from a speed perspective.

[07:50] Sometimes, it takes five

[07:53] or it immediately kicks

[07:55] or whatever...

[07:56] It feels like there's something lurking

[07:57] in here that I need to figure out.

[07:58] I was also using the Galaxy Tab.

[08:00] I was actually kind of impressed with it.

[08:01] So the screen isn't amazing, right,

[08:03] as you kind of expect.

[08:04] But I was watching some

[08:07] and it's actually, like,

[08:10] It does have actual real stereo speakers.

[08:13] The size is nice.

[08:14] I will say it's not that

[08:17] which feels a little bit weird,

[08:18] but the audio is significantly better.

[08:19] The screen is fine.

[08:21] And for tablet stuff like watching video

[08:22] and browsing and stuff,

[08:24] So far, I will say that I am finding this

[08:27] to be actually a better

[08:30] but I'm already just 24 hours

[08:35] I would do things differently

[08:38] from scratch or if I could wildly

[08:40] and blatantly cheat and

[08:43] before the end of the challenge.

[08:45] Okay, so I'm on day two

[08:49] and a few thoughts.

[08:51] I was going to go and take

[08:54] However, my watch was basically dead

[08:56] by the time I was done with work.

[08:58] So I figured instead of

[09:00] to charge, trying again, I just

[09:04] Now that being said,

[09:05] today I did do things

[09:07] I did turn off the always on display.

[09:09] It did make a big difference

[09:11] I will say it feels

[09:14] that doesn't actually have

[09:17] That kind of defeats the purpose

[09:18] 'cause it takes a solid

[09:20] raise your wrist for it to show up.

[09:21] But regardless, in the gym,

[09:23] watch actually worked really well.

[09:25] All the Samsung Health stuff feels

[09:26] like it's actually pretty well designed.

[09:28] No real issues there.

[09:29] And I'll actually say

[09:30] that the Galaxy Buds Core are fantastic.

[09:33] So I've got them in now.

[09:34] They're really good for 50 bucks.

[09:37] I mean the active noise

[09:41] but certainly enough for you know,

[09:42] a crowded environment like the gym.

[09:45] I feel like something like an airplane.

[09:46] Like, they're pretty good.

[09:48] I do have to say that the A07 is starting

[09:50] to grate on me a little bit.

[09:52] I have tried to do a little

[09:55] disable more apps and speed

[09:57] And what else is becoming a pain point is

[09:59] the Galaxy Chromebook.

[10:00] Holy.

[10:01] Like, it's fine if you

[10:04] but man, that thing is slow.

[10:06] So, I do have an idea on how

[10:10] to make some creative

[10:18] So I've used these things

[10:23] I would like to make

[10:26] - [Alex] Well it's too late.

[10:27] You have the setup that you have.

[10:28] - [Adriana] You kind of

[10:30] - Well, you say that, but

[10:33] the platform where evolution

[10:37] and Austin getting out

[10:38] of using the ultra cheap things is

[10:39] really part of the mission.

[10:41] So the reason why I'm bouncing off

[10:44] of this particular Chromebook

[10:49] It is a dual core one gigahertz processor,

[10:52] four gigs of RAM.

[10:54] And while at first, I

[10:56] screen not okay.

[10:57] Screen is very, very bad.

[10:59] - Yeah.

[11:04] the liberty of ordering

[11:08] - [Alex] What do you mean replacement?

[11:09] That is the cheapest...

[11:10] That is the cheapest new laptop.

[11:12] - The return policy is still good.

[11:14] We don't have to worry

[11:16] - [Alex] Yeah, but but that's still

[11:17] the cheapest new Samsung laptop.

[11:20] - Well you would think that that's true

[11:23] and yet I found an even better

[11:26] and even cheaper option,

[11:28] which is still within

[11:32] - [Alex] Oh, okay.

[11:34] - If you, my friends at

[11:37] and go, "Austin, tell

[11:41] not this.

[11:42] - [Alex] Hey, we still

[11:45] This, my friends, while it

[11:48] In fact, I think actually the hardware is

[11:50] gonna be pretty much the same

[11:55] in fact, actually very, very similar.

[11:57] This is, instead of a Chromebook,

[11:59] a Samsung Galaxy Book Go,

[12:03] How much did I pay for

[12:06] - [Alex] You paid $191.

[12:07] - $191.

[12:08] - [Alex] It's pretty cheap for a laptop.

[12:09] - [Austin] It's pretty cheap for a laptop.

[12:11] Sorry, my phone's a little slow.

[12:12] Lemme pull up the listing.

[12:13] Just gimme a second.

[12:15] This laptop costs me $65.

[12:19] - [Alex] Well, okay, you know what?

[12:22] - $65.

[12:24] That's crazy.

[12:25] That's like-

[12:26] - Yeah, so that was why when I saw this,

[12:28] was like, wait a minute,

[12:29] this is absolutely, even if,

[12:33] as, like, an X Elite or

[12:35] It's gonna be leagues better than this.

[12:36] It runs full Windows, it has 5G.

[12:39] And while I hope the screen's better,

[12:41] I don't think it actually is,

[12:42] the fact that I can actually, you know,

[12:44] do stuff with it as opposed to wait

[12:46] for it to load one website

[12:49] And if I may be so bold,

[12:54] Alex, what's 191 minus 65?

[12:58] How much is that again?

[12:59] - [Alex] 127.

[13:01] - $127.

[13:03] Why?

[13:05] How lovely is that?

[13:06] Because, also, I got another phone.

[13:08] - [Alex] Wait, wait, what?

[13:09] What?

[13:10] - I maybe decided to get a

[13:13] because this functions,

[13:17] it's better than I expected initially.

[13:19] It is so slow.

[13:21] So I figured why not treat

[13:26] of the $120 that I definitely

[13:29] The Galaxy A17.

[13:31] - [Alex] Oh, the actual cheapest phone

[13:33] that you can get in the US.

[13:34] So, what is my grand total from before

[13:37] and after these swaps?

[13:39] Because I think I saved money, right?

[13:42] - [Alex] The old total was $680.

[13:45] - 680.

[13:46] - [Alex] The new total is $677.

[13:50] - I saved $3, got a way better phone

[13:53] and a way better laptop.

[13:54] So it looks pretty similar.

[13:56] And I do believe they share a lot.

[13:58] So if you put them side by side,

[13:59] you can see they both have,

[14:02] which doesn't do anything.

[14:03] But this one has not only an ultra wide,

[14:06] but also, I think it has the same sensor

[14:08] but it has OIS, which is

[14:11] This also has 128 gigs of storage,

[14:13] which I believe this one has 64.

[14:15] The big one for me, though,

[14:17] while it doesn't have a headphone jack,

[14:19] it has an OLED.

[14:20] But come on, you gotta admit

[14:23] - [Alex] I will give

[14:25] I think that's a totally

[14:27] - We'll see.

[14:31] bending the rules quite a bit.

[14:32] - I showed you the receipt,

[14:33] I bought it for 65 bucks.

[14:35] - [Alex] Yeah, but it wasn't new.

[14:37] - And what we've learned today is

[14:39] that don't buy a new $200 Chromebook.

[14:42] If you're going all

[14:46] All righty my friends,

[14:48] it has been over a week of

[14:51] and I have many, many, many thoughts.

[14:54] You want the good or the bad first?

[14:55] 'Cause I got a lot.

[14:56] I got a lot.

[14:57] You can't shut me up.

[14:58] - [Alex] Well, how about

[15:01] - I'm very happy I switched

[15:03] It is so much better than the

[15:08] Performance is a bit better,

[15:09] but the OLED is so much better.

[15:11] It's higher resolution.

[15:12] The fact that it has 5G

[15:14] in a lot more areas.

[15:16] The camera is better.

[15:17] The ultra wide actually exists.

[15:19] It's not like a night and day difference,

[15:20] but I'll say that it is

[15:23] because the A07 was so slow

[15:26] and that screen was so bad

[15:28] A17 solid.

[15:30] The Galaxy Book Go, not a perfect laptop.

[15:32] As you could probably

[15:36] However, that's the technical phrase.

[15:39] It's still bad.

[15:39] It's 1080p but it is

[15:42] sort of like LCD panel.

[15:44] It's quite bad.

[15:45] But performance wise, it's

[15:48] Only eight gigs of RAM,

[15:49] but, again, this is a 5G

[15:52] for like 60 something bucks, right?

[15:54] It is so much better than the Chromebook.

[15:56] So much more powerful, so much quicker.

[15:58] This is actually a laptop

[15:59] that the screen is really the

[16:03] So, overall, for the

[16:07] If I was gonna rank them, I'd

[16:11] and the Galaxy Book Go,

[16:13] for it, legitimately recommend.

[16:15] I would say that the A17 is decent.

[16:18] It's not my favorite way of spending $200,

[16:21] but it is a very usable phone.

[16:22] It's pretty solid.

[16:23] And I would say that would not recommend,

[16:27] pretty much at all, the Galaxy

[16:31] These are both, to me,

[16:35] and they're not really that usable, right?

[16:38] I mean the the buginess,

[16:40] of these things has been a real

[16:42] The watch, since I've gotten it,

[16:45] routinely disconnects

[16:48] I will not notice this until

[16:50] and realize it's not been connected

[16:52] and I've been missing

[16:53] right?

[16:54] Then there's stuff like the Tab, right?

[16:55] So my first impression of the Tab,

[16:57] even though it's not the

[17:00] was generally okay.

[17:01] Like, the speakers are pretty

[17:03] But the problem is it's just been sort

[17:05] of buggy, is probably the

[17:08] I didn't use it for a day

[17:09] and it drained the battery

[17:12] I recharged it last night.

[17:13] I went to go watch a video

[17:16] or four minutes to boot.

[17:17] It landed on the home screen,

[17:19] crashed, and rebooted.

[17:22] I had to wait another three

[17:23] or four minutes to

[17:25] And when I went to go watch

[17:27] the video was stuck playing at 10 FPS.

[17:29] Even though I, like,

[17:31] I let it sit there and make

[17:32] nothing's running in the background,

[17:34] and it was just choppy, right?

[17:36] Sometimes it would be smooth,

[17:37] but, like, I couldn't watch the video

[17:39] for more than 30 seconds

[17:40] without it dropping a ton of frames,

[17:42] and it was bothering me.

[17:42] So I'm very curious, what do you think

[17:44] about the cheapest Samsung setup?

[17:47] And would you take this over

[17:49] that we recently did?

[17:50] And you can check that video out here.

[17:51] Make sure to let me

[17:53] Subscribe to channel and ring-a-ling

[17:54] that ding-a-ling button.

[17:55] Until next time, my friends.

[17:58] I miss my Z Fold.

[17:59] (Austin chuckling)
