[00:00] Hey guys, it's Lauren, the Dean of the Rocket Jump Film School. I don't know what to talk to you about. No. Hey guys, it's Lauren, Dean of the Rocket Jump Film School, and today I'm going to talk to you about the Samsung NX1.
[00:12] And we actually shot our entire intro video, as well as our BATS, on this camera. Today, I just want to kind of walk you through it and give you an introduction. So there's three main reasons that we wanted to use the NX1 for the one-take shoot.
[00:24] One was the small form factor meant that when we balanced it on the Mobi, It was really easy to hand off. There was no sense of a bump or a change when you do our most technical move, which is the pass from the crane to the operator.
[00:36] The next reason was 4K. It's a large, complicated one-take, and having that 4K sort of latitude in terms of resolution meant that we could reframe digitally wherever we want to. And then the third thing was the low-light ability. We only had so much money to shoot this thing, so we had to be really, really creative with our lighting budget.
[00:55] So we wound up lighting most of the one take with what we call Gem Balls or China Balls, which put out a certain amount of light, but given that we didn't want to work at a stop that was too shallow and we really needed to get enough light to be able to work with
[01:09] here, it helped to have a camera that could take a higher ISO without getting really noisy. The NX1 shoots in 4K has a 28 megapixel APS sized sensor it has awesome high ISO and adaptive noise reduction which is just a super fancy way of saying it works great in low light It shoots in HEVC or
[01:27] H.265. This means even smaller file sizes for your video clips, which is a must when you're shooting in 4K. It also has crazy fast autofocus tracking. Joey, what are you...
[01:39] Can you... uh... can you... can you go... well, no, just stop, just stop. The LCD pops out easily and allows you to angle it. It's also a touchscreen, giving you the entire menu at your fingertips.
[01:54] Last but not least, one of the coolest things about the NX1 is that it has its own Wi-Fi and phone app, letting you completely control the camera remotely and turn your phone into a viewfinder. Joey.
