This video is a comprehensive beginner guide for Discipline Priest healers in World of Warcraft: The War Within, focusing on Mythic+ dungeons. It explains the core atonement mechanic, essential spells, talent choices (Voidweaver and Oracle), and cooldown usage to help new players get started quickly.
Discipline Priest heals by doing damage. Atonement causes damaging spells to heal targets with atonement for 70% of damage done (35% in raid).
Applies atonement to 5 targets within 40 yards and adds 2 bolts to next Penance. Primary way to spread atonement, but avoid using charges back-to-back.
Both apply full-duration atonement. Renew is a heal-over-time; Shield provides an absorb buffer and extra seconds of atonement.
Dual-purpose spell: can heal or damage. Does not apply atonement but benefits from Radiance (extra bolts). Movable cast.
30-second cooldown that summons a pet and enables Shadow Covenant, empowering Penance into Dark Reprimand for more damage and healing.
Applies 10% damage vulnerability on target and grants 'Power of the Dark Side', increasing next Penance damage/healing by 30%.
Mindbender → Mind Blast → Radiance → Dark Reprimand. This sequence provides strong burst healing and damage through atonement.
Mindbender becomes Voidwrath (laser beam pet). Mind Blast creates an Entropic Rift that expands with Penance and explodes for heavy damage, converted to healing via atonement.
Using Mind Blast followed by Radiance ensures the Rift explosion occurs just before atonement expires, maximizing healing from the burst.
Gains Premonition (45-sec recharge, 2 charges) with cycle: Insight, Piety, Soless, Clairvoyance. Also adds twin Penance bolts that smart-heal/offend.
Reduces cooldown of next 3 spells by 7 seconds, allowing back-to-back Penance casts. Advanced technique for burst healing.
Increases healing done by 20% and redistributes 70% of overhealing to nearby allies for 15 seconds. Acts as a powerful healing cooldown.
Psychic Scream (AOE fear), Pain Suppression (40-50% damage reduction), Evangelism (extends atonement by 6s and heals), Power Word Barrier (20% DR field), Power Infusion (20% haste), Ultimate Penitence (big burst heal/damage with mobility).
Discipline is easy to learn but requires fight knowledge to use cooldowns effectively. It lacks throughput for multiple disasters but is very consistent. Season 2 is considered great for pugging Disciplines.
Discipline Priest is a rewarding healer that excels with proper atonement management and damage rotation. This guide provides the foundation for beginners to start Mythic+ dungeons and suggests deeper resources like AutomaticJak for advanced play.

Using Insight to reduce cooldowns on Penance enables quadruple Penance casts, a powerful burst healing tool for Oracle players.
15:53Learning Curve Insight
Discipline's core rotation is easy but effective usage requires deep dungeon knowledge, distinguishing it from other healers.
22:30[00:02] being one of the hardest healers but this guide is going to make it easy I'm the core moves and Concepts to get you into Dungeons and delves as fast as possible tool tips will be enlarged in the top right follow along and pause if
[00:17] you need to my name is bazer the Healer down below is my intro Talent import let's get you into discipline priest discipline priest heals by doing damage your ability to heal without damage is is extremely limited but with a balance
[00:32] of setup in blasting damage you can heal just about anything other than a disaster atonement is your Mastery but it's also a passive in your spell book that grants you healing targets you give atonement to get Mastery extra healing
[00:47] and shielding from you targets with atonement are also healed from your damaging spells for 70% of the damage done before scaling 35% in raid and this isn't some scaled healing like with mistweaver every Target gets the same
[01:02] amount of healing from atonement whether it's one atonement or 20 atonements which is how raid healing works also you're healing with none of your damage cooldowns running is on the lower end often lacking but your healing during
[01:16] cooldowns can be absolutely out of this world powerful if you play it right so let's start with the heals as there aren't as many to go over the first heel to talk about is power word Radiance this move move has two charges with an
[01:31] 18-second recharge it creates a burst of light on the Target that you select and heals that Target and four nearby Targets within 40 yards for a decent amount but it also applies atonement for 70% of its normal duration this also
[01:45] adds to penance bolts to your next Penance meaning you can do this healing move and then go right into a damaging move for some big AOE healing Radiance is your primary use of getting Atonement out but you're not going to want to
[01:58] waste the charges back to back try to layer them so that you can get all of them then cast another Radiance when you need to heal again and start the process over again if you cast Radiance back to back that's usually an emergency and
[02:12] something seconds without a Radiance that can be a bit difficult to deal with renew is a simple heal over time and it's uh not a very good one if I'm being honest with you this will apply heal over time but more importantly this
[02:27] applies a full atonement to the tar Target as you can see here so if you want to get out a couple of atonements before a mechanic goes out you can do so without having to use a Radiance charge when we're referring to ramping this is
[02:40] when we're referring to ramping this is a part of the ramping process power word Shield does the same thing it applies atonement at full duration plus a couple of bonus seconds and is a shield you can put on the target when you Shield the
[02:52] target it has like an extra buffer of Health this can make healing very useful one of your solid go-to single Target heal heals is to put a shield on someone and then hit them with a Penance that way they get the bonus atonement healing
[03:06] preventing some of the incoming damage so you can top them back up flash heal is a very standard priest spell you probably know this from Shadow or from holy it's just a quick cast that'll heal the target it's chunky enough it's fast
[03:22] can't catch up with your healing but if you cast flash heeld too many times your Mana bar if you're ever running out of Mana you're probably over relying on your flash heel remember the more you can heal with atonements the better your
[03:37] goal is to try to heal most of the dungeon with your atonements using flash heel to top people off or to fix small mistakes or maybe one person took damage well then flash heel and Penance might be a good way to heal them also note
[03:50] that if flash heel is glowing that means you have a instant cast flash heel available to you that will cost no mana and furthermore if you flash heal you yourself will be healed giving you and them atonement so a quick way to get
[04:05] five atonements out is to flash heal one teammate and then put a Renew on the TAA you got five atonements out just a little bit quicker now let's talk about Penance this is both a healing and a
[04:18] damaging move so let's start with the heal when you cast penants it's going to fire multiple bolts over its duration to heal the Target and you can move while casting but note that this move does not apply atonement also note that if you
[04:32] see multiple Penance bolts coming out that's part of my hero Talent with Oracle and I'll talk all about that in a little bit so again while Penance doesn't apply atonement something like a power word shield into a Penance is a
[04:45] atonement and the strong single Target healing of penance but a lot of the time you're going to use this for damage hitting a Radiance will add two bolts to your penants allowing you to immediately do some large damage in healing by
[04:59] casting it on an enemy this is your bread and butter by the way Radiance Independence is your go-to heal and you're going to be using it a lot but we damage moves let's talk about things
[05:12] that modify penants first our first damage and technically healing cool down is mind Bender mind Bender is going to be a 30-second cool down that makes a little Shadow octopus come out and slap the target for you you get a little bit
[05:25] of Mana back too when it does this however for those 12 seconds you're going to transform some of your moves into their shadowy variants Penance dark reprimand one you're in Shadow Covenant
[05:42] you do more Shadow damage you do more healing you're absolutely Juiced it's just a very very good cool down now it's up pretty often at 30 seconds and your shadower death and Penance will extend the duration of your Shadow Covenant and
[05:57] behind the the enemies and do a little AOE attack using mind bender and then a Radiance cast and then a Penance is a great way to do a ton of damage and healing but we're not done there while you can get multiple dark reprimands or
[06:13] penances out during a shadow Covenant window there's one other move that will modify it mind blast mind blast is a roughly 20s something to 18 second cool down that does a decent chunk of damage but it has two main benefits one is that
[06:28] it puts 10% bonus damage on the target making whatever you do to them hit 10% harder which does convert into more healing but it also gives you power of the dark side making your next Penance deal 30% more damage or healing power of
[06:41] the dark side whether it's dark reprimand or Penance makes your Penance significantly stronger using mind blast to power up a Penance will do a significant more amount of healing than you would normally so if you want a
[06:54] little bread and butter to practice right now hit your mind Bender hit mind blast then press radians then hit penants or dark reprimand when you're in between moves you can use Smite which is a basic filler spell of yours that does
[07:07] holy damage and not a whole lot of healing but it's a great move to use while you're waiting for your next penants or dark reer man to be available Shadow word pain is a shadow spell that puts a basic damage over time on the
[07:19] opponent it's not that significant and while there are talents to make it stronger the beginner build I gave you all doesn't really use them when Shadow word pain is on a Target hitting a Penance will actually spread out a few
[07:32] Shadow word pains which can make it do a little bit more damage but again it's not a whole lot don't over prioritize this use it whenever there's an opening and it's run out of its duration note that your ticks of Shadow word pain have
[07:45] a chance of giving you a power of the dark side while your mind blast will always give you a power of the dark side Shadow word death is an execute move when you use it at not execute points it just does a little bit of Shadow damage
[07:58] also note that it does hit you as well but it doesn't hit very hard as you might have noticed Shadow or death however when a target's below 20% health will do 150% increased damage and you can use it back to back use Shadow word
[08:12] the class as an execute to kind of get a little bit more bonus healing when pretty decently hard and allow you to do some significant healing when at the end of someone's life bar very very helpful
[08:26] intimidating don't worry about it until you're better again it also will Covenant if you find the opening to press the button so one more time before we talk about hero specs and cooldowns my recommendation if you ever want to
[08:40] use your cooldowns is to use your mind Bender then your mind blast then your Radiance now you're ready to heal hit your dark reprimand and go crazy do as much damage as you like if you have a free moment try to put a shadow or death
[08:53] in there for a little bit of extra AOE damage and healing after you use a Penance and some potential power of the dark side procs other than that press Smite until you're ready to hit another Penance now also feel free to disconnect
[09:07] your mind blast and your mind Bender if you need to split your healing sometimes you might find that you need to heal through multiple events and you might find that you could say use your mind Bender hit a Radiance use your dark
[09:20] repand to heal and then a little bit later right you might find that you need then use the Mind blast and another Radiance to kind of achieve that goal this is going to be very useful on void Weaver but there's no way to do this
[09:34] incorrectly it's all about how much healing do you need to do but also when there isn't a lot of healing to do it's good to use Mindbender specifically for sometimes it's good to just do some more damage while there's nothing left to do
[09:50] Bender is going to let you do a lot more as well as using your mind blast but discipline priest with the hero to and yes both are totally viable for this season 2 that I'm talking about them so let's get into it we're going to start
[10:06] with void Weaver as it is genuinely a little bit easier to understand and if you're an absolute beginner I think you're going to like it more Oracle is a little more complicated but it has some interesting tricks up its sleeves so
[10:18] listen to both and see which one is right for you void Weaver might look complicated it has a new move it has this weird in Tropic Rift but I promise you it's actually the symbol of the two talents so first things first your mind
[10:31] Bender has turned into void wrath don't worry it's still a 30second cooldown it still puts you in Shadow Covenant the only difference is that this little half Elemental shadowy dude will shoot laser beams for you instead void wrath is
[10:44] better than Mindbender but only a little bit you don't have to worry too much about what this little dude's up to the big change is your mind Blast Your Mind big change is your mind Blast Your Mind blast now sends out an entropic Rift
[10:57] Penance will make the rift bigger void blast which has replaced your Smite will extend the duration of the rift up to a certain amount you want to try to get two penances in and then the rift will explode at the end of its timer
[11:10] doing damage evenly split among all enemies there now that's a lot of damage which also means it's a lot of healing what makes this so good is that all of that does go through your atonement so here's the secret sauce hit your mind
[11:24] blast then hit Radiance this a few things this is going atonement running or rather a Radiance alongside your mind blast but also the
[11:36] rift will explode right before the atonement runs out you might have missed it right there I'll try to run it back in slow motion here but yeah that means you'll always get the healing from your Rift onto your atoned Targets this is a
[11:50] godsend because having your Radiance charge in your mind blast tethered together makes tracking your healing and your movements super easy I'm telling you I wasn't in doing this for the first half of season 1 whenever I was playing
[12:02] discipline priest and now that I'm playing it fulltime that trick really saved my life and shout outs to my homie Winslow for teaching me that trick now wrath for a ton of damage and healing so here's what that looks like I would
[12:15] here's what that looks like I would Shadow or pain void wrath mind blast powered Radiance dark reprimand and then hit your Void blast to keep the rift going try to sneak in one more Penance before the end
[12:29] and then it'll explode and that is a ton of damage and a ton of healing that you did and note that your mind blast and your Radiance charge are just about back and so is your Void wrath this is your bread and butter and you can do it
[12:42] forever however I got one more trick up my sleeve What If instead you start with a mind blast a Radiance and then a Penance do the same thing here but don't use your Void wrath the reason you'd want to do this is to extend your
[12:56] healing over a long period of time look I'm going to hit void wrath now and then I'm going to cast Radiance and keep the heels rolling it's less healing than in heels rolling it's less healing than in one instance but it's also an extended
[13:10] really need as discipline priest and of middle of that so I could even extend this one further and then after this mind blast window I'm going to have void wrath back and I can continue the
[13:23] process while you can't perfectly do this forever you can do this for a really long period of time that will really help out your healing when the going gets rough now it's time to talk about Oracle but note that this one is a
[13:36] things simple head to the next section where I talk about cooldowns now the main benefits to Oracle are premonition and this lovely Talent right here twin additional Penance bolts so again if I
[13:51] pick an ally it'll throw some at the enemy and if I pick the enemy it'll throw some at allies this essentially means that your AOE healing from damage AG will also include one little smart heal and if you're trying to single
[14:03] Target heal someone you'll get just a little bit of AOE healing it's a nice bonus but the big one's premonition this is a new button that you get with a 45 second recharge rate with a maximum of two charges note when you start a
[14:16] dungeon it'll always reset to the top of this list it's going to go premonition of insight premonition of pety premonition of soless and then Clairvoyance I'm going to link a we or down below that I have right here
[14:29] you're new to this and you want to know a bit more about what you can do this really did help me learn it a lot quicker but for beginners here's the don't have to worry about premonition of
[14:43] about premonition of soulless so just get them on cool down and try to get to Piet or to Clairvoyance Clairvoyance is all three Buffs at the same time and piety is increases your healing done by 20% and causes 70% of overhealing on a
[14:58] player to be be redistributed to up to four nearby allies for 15 seconds this is an incredible buff and so you can use this sort of as a 1 and 1/2 minute healing button you get your premonition of piety get through sess and then you
[15:12] have Clairvoyance which includes Piet so you can rotate these back to back as healing cooldowns and it'll make your life easier but let's get into the advanced stuff because I want to teach you all the quadruple Penance this is
[15:26] going to make your premonition of insight p and Clairvoyance all healing cool Downs with premonition of soless being the one utility premonition the premonition of sess try to find some value on it but your real goal is to get
[15:41] the charge for your Clairvoyance so if you're about to hit two charges get through your sess and just have your premonition of Clairvoyance ready to go premonition of insight reduces the cooldown of your next three spells
[15:53] cooldown of your next three spells casted by 7 Seconds this means that your Penance will be off cooled on immediately this allows you to do a multiple times the trick is to hit premonition of insight right before you
[16:06] cast Penance but note this will work on any move with a coold down this means that if you have to dispel your dispel will get the cool down this means if you You' just hit premonition of insight
[16:19] to come off the wrong move but it's okay if you mess this one up but when you get it right it's a ton of healing so here's what it would look like I'm going to use m Bender I'm going to use my mind blast I'm going to Radiance premonition of
[16:33] insight dark reprimand dark reprimand dark reprimand dark reprimand and that's a lot of healing like that is a ton of healing for not a lot of work
[16:46] that we're done firing all these Penance bolts out premonition of pet is our next a ton of healing and if we need to do even more healing that's available to us
[16:58] I want to note that remember penants can be canceled mid cast right you can just do so by pressing another spell so try to make sure you let your entire Penance rip if you've ever played a voker it doesn't work like disintegrate I don't
[17:12] want you to waste any spell casts here so try to make sure the move fully finishes I played a ton today with these talents and I played with them on the PTR and it's an incredibly fun way to play that being said void Weaver is
[17:25] really think void Weaver is the way to go but Oracle is extremely cool as well so don't feel like you can't play it give it a try now let's go through our cool Downs really quick I'm not going to go
[17:37] over all of them I'm going to go over some of the most important first of all you have one crowd control button psychic scream this build is going to give it to you on a 30second cool down and you have to be in melee to really
[17:49] use this one but it's an AOE fear which is a great way to stop multiple spell casts whenever you need it just remember that psychic scream doesn't work on un dead targets in case you're ever confused why it doesn't work in certain
[18:02] dungeons that's usually why pain suppression is a huge damage reduction move that takes 40 to 50% off the attacks it's a 40 to 50% damage reduction it's external too so you don't even need to put this on you you can put
[18:17] this on anyone this is why it's one of the best moves in the game now I say 40 to 50 because Oracle actually gets it all the way to 50% but even at 40% it's one of the best defensives however at a 3 3 minute recharge you need to really
[18:30] pick and choose where you use this but this can save the tank this can save you it's such a versatile Dr so use it whenever you need it but just note when you're not getting another one for 3 minutes so that last charge is pretty
[18:45] important evangelism has been reworked so if you've played disc before and are catching back up on it this is going to be new to you this is a 1 and 1/2 minute cool down that extends all atonements on allies by 6 seconds and heals those
[18:58] allies by 6 seconds and heals those targets for 4.3 million split evenly among them while in raid this is a little lackluster other than extending atonement duration which is awesome for dungeons the healing is actually a
[19:11] pretty big deal because you can use this to kind of clutch out a heel and keep the heels rolling when something bad happens that being said evangelism is a 1 and 1/2 minute cool down that requires a atonements to be out so you can't just
[19:24] send this one with no atonements running it's not going to really do anything so make sure you you get your atonements out before you use this powered barriers another 3 minute and this one puts a damage reduction field of 20% on the
[19:37] ground for 10 seconds this is a really powerful move in fact I'd argue it's one of the best externals in the entire game unfortunately not every pug in the world is going to run into it so if you're really struggling with the randos in
[19:50] your dungeons go for luminous barrier this is just going to put an absorb shield for it'll be roughly a million at my current item level of I think I'm 633 but that being said well this isn't very good it is better than not getting any
[20:04] ever struggling to get the barrier down and use it effectively go for luminous barrier until you're better at Power word barrier power and infusion is one of the best cooldowns in the game this is a 2-minute cooldown that will give
[20:19] is a 2-minute cooldown that will give the target a flat 20% haste for 15 seconds now that is almost a blood Lust by the way so that's a very powerful move if you cast it on someone else you yourself will also receive the buff
[20:33] healing cool down but realistically it's most of the time used for damage so find they're blasting or you're about to start a pull give it to them now yeah if time it with their cooldowns you'll know the best specs to give power infusion
[20:50] to somebody who doesn't really benefit from it every once in a while but when you're learning just use it trust me it's more important to get get used to using it than not using it at all but that being said there is research you
[21:03] can do if you want to know exactly who to give it to and who's the best Target save a tank's life with power infusion but that's a very Niche scenario 99% of of course you give it to them you give it to you so sometimes I just give away
[21:19] my power infusion because I need to use it but when you're in really high keys assigned place a place where you as a group are going to want to use it okay it's time for my favorite cool down ultimate peniton this is a 4minute you
[21:34] may heal or damage with it note that it's very good at damaging enemies and scenario where you need more raw healing throughput healing with it is the way to go but I like to use it for damage either way it's a great heal you're
[21:49] going to fly into the air with a shield for 100% of your health and you're going to slam a bazillion damage you're going to fire Penance bolts onto multiple targets healing your damage depending on what who you chose to Target and you're
[22:01] going to do a ton of damage in healing now you also get to control yourself while you fly so hit a Radiance and then fly up into the air with ultimate fly up into the air with ultimate penitence and start to blast this is a
[22:14] very cool move and while it's usually used as an emergency heal you can move just be careful the limited movement is a good way to get yourself flattened because you wanted to use your upes but I love ultimate penitence and
[22:30] it's a very core part of the kit now so it's not even hard to get anymore so to use it and the movement on it is brand new a couple of notes before we go discipline priest difficulty isn't in that it's hard to play if you follow
[22:45] along you've probably learned that it's not too complicated to learn and once you learn the flow it's pretty consistent however knowing when to use your moves is where it's difficult so when you're starting just use them as
[22:57] much as you like get comfortable with your cooldowns but as you get into higher level Dungeons and delves you might go hey you know what that move that's coming up in 10 seconds really hurts I'm going to not press mind Bender
[23:10] until that move comes out that way I have a way to heal through it but once you start learning where those places are in dungeons it's really not too difficult the problem is that it lacks the throughput to heal through too many
[23:22] disasters in a row so if your teammates or yourself make a lot of mistakes in a row it can be hard to cover from but it's also so consistent with its flow that you'll find out where you can and can't have wiggle room and you'll be
[23:37] it is difficult this is probably the best season for pugging as discipline priest ever now I'm not sure about Legion and battle for Azeroth eras but in the time period I've been playing this might be the best time to pug his
[23:51] disc it is top tier in a lot of groups and a lot of Seasons because in a coordinated group it does everything you need and power infusion but in pugs it does lack some of the tools that other healers have to more easily keep the Run
[24:05] going but that's the part where I leave it with you study the kit there's more tips and tricks here I didn't even go over your defensives like desperate prayer fade did you know flash heal is a defensive on you oh yeah there's a lot
[24:19] of cool parts to disc and priest in general so do your reading and learn more if you want more advanced guides and deeper Dives check out automatic jack he's one of my absolute favorite YouTubers when it comes to healing and
[24:32] furthermore you might end up moving away from my beginner build don't worry about it that build was entirely to get your foot in the door if you want to make any differently by all means have fun with
[24:44] one I hope this little beginnner guide helped thank you all so so much for me up in the comment section or even just stop by my stream on Twitch I'd love to chat about it take care friends I'll see you all soon h
