AI Summary

This video is a complete beginner piano lesson series that teaches you to read sheet music in seven days. The instructor guides you through daily exercises focusing on landmark notes, patterns, intervals, and rhythms, culminating in playing full songs. The method emphasizes learning by doing and recognizing musical patterns rather than rote memorization.

[1:47]
Middle C as a Landmark

Middle C is the central note to memorize; it sits on a ledger line below the treble clef and is also the same note in the bass clef (second space from bottom).

[2:55]
Basic Note Values

Quarter notes (filled) get one beat, half notes (hollow with stem) get two beats, whole notes (hollow, no stem) get four beats in 4/4 time.

[4:34]
Learn by Patterns, Not Memorization

The instructor emphasizes learning patterns (step up, step down) rather than memorizing every note name; this builds instinct for sight-reading.

[5:33]
Landmark Notes: Low C and G

Landmark notes: low C (second space in bass clef) and G (second line in treble clef) help orient the player.

[19:35]
Intervals – Seconds, Thirds, Fourths, Fifths

Intervals: second (adjacent notes), third (skip one note), fourth (skip two notes), fifth (skip three notes). Demonstrated with C-D, C-E, C-F, C-G.

[21:28]
Continuous Musical Alphabet Across Clefs

The musical alphabet (A-G) runs continuously from low to high across both clefs; bass and treble are not separate systems.

[27:29]
Pre-Trip Scanning Technique

Before playing, do a 'pre-trip' – scan the music to identify patterns, landmarks, and tricky sections.

[31:30]
3/4 Time and Dotted Half Note

3/4 time signature means three beats per measure; dotted half note equals three beats.

[38:37]
Eighth Notes and Counting

Eighth notes are twice as fast as quarter notes; counted as '1-and, 2-and, 3-and, 4-and'.

[47:20]
Day 7: Full Song with Both Hands

Day 7 combines all skills to play a full song (likely 'Ode to Joy' or similar) with both hands, including intervals and eighth notes.

[00:00] hello and welcome to seven days to sight

[00:02] reading so reading notes is hard it's

[00:04] like learning a whole new language and

[00:06] if you have ever struggled to read notes

[00:08] with your right hand and read notes in

[00:09] your left hand and put it all together

[00:10] then number one you're not alone but

[00:12] number two this video is exactly for you

[00:14] you've broken it up into seven days now

[00:17] you can enjoy this one day at a time you

[00:19] can do it all at once or you can take

[00:20] multiple days with each of the segments

[00:21] that's completely up to you the point is

[00:23] is that you're going to learn by doing

[00:25] so instead of getting out a chalkboard

[00:27] and writing down note names and using

[00:29] flashcards and trying to memorize it all

[00:30] we're going to learn by playing you're

[00:32] gonna see music I'm gonna walk you

[00:34] through we're gonna do it together and

[00:35] by the end of the seven days you're

[00:37] going to begin to recognize patterns and

[00:39] music you'll have instincts for the

[00:41] rhythm you're going to be sight reading

[00:42] songs that sound familiar and maybe you

[00:44] even love so I'm very excited to get

[00:46] started let's dive in alright day one

[00:49] let's get started so in front of you

[00:52] you're going to see some blank music I'm

[00:54] just gonna give you some ground rules so

[00:55] that you understand where we're starting

[00:56] and then we're going to start playing

[00:57] and learning from there so first things

[00:59] first we we've got a bunch of measures

[01:01] there are four of them to be specific so

[01:03] they're just these sort of little

[01:04] sections that you're going to see

[01:06] divided off in this first line of Music

[01:08] at the beginning of the line you're

[01:10] going to see a treble clef which means

[01:11] we're going to play with our right hand

[01:13] and below that you're going to see a

[01:14] bass clef which means we're going to

[01:15] play with our left hand and the rest of

[01:19] it we're going to learn as we go the

[01:21] only other thing I want to point out is

[01:22] that each the treble clef and the bass

[01:24] clef you can think of them as like

[01:25] little houses or areas of their own and

[01:28] they each have five lines and four

[01:31] spaces so just kind of think about that

[01:33] five lines four spaces so now it's time

[01:36] to begin playing so now we've got actual

[01:39] notes in front of us now the first notes

[01:41] we see are existing in something called

[01:43] the treble clef which we've already

[01:44] talked about and so I just want you to

[01:45] take your right hand and place it on the

[01:47] seat in the most middle part of your

[01:49] piano this is called middle C and middle

[01:52] C is a note that you just gotta memorize

[01:54] you gotta make best friends with it

[01:55] because if we can learn where C is we

[01:57] can learn where d and e and f and g and

[01:59] all the rest of them are so we've got in

[02:02] our first measure four middle C's we're

[02:04] going to play them with our right hand

[02:05] because they're in the treble clef so

[02:07] let's just try it c c c

[02:10] now we have nothing in this treble clef

[02:14] in the next measure except this little

[02:15] square guy which is a rest it means do

[02:17] nothing

[02:18] we have notes in our bass clef now and

[02:20] so that means we're going to play with

[02:21] our left hand and here's the kicker this

[02:24] is also middle C they look different

[02:26] because of where they're written but

[02:27] they're the same note on your keyboard

[02:29] so take your left hand and play middle C

[02:32] this time with the left hand use your

[02:34] thumb and we're going to play one two

[02:36] three four of those so for this line of

[02:40] Music we're actually sharing middle C

[02:42] between the hands starts with the right

[02:43] hand c c c c then left hand c c c now

[02:50] back to right c c and this one looks

[02:53] different so you're gonna hold this one

[02:55] for two counts you're gonna think in

[02:57] your head one two because this guy is a

[02:59] half note so let's just play that

[03:01] measure together c c one two now our

[03:05] left hand gets to turn one two two okay

[03:09] we just got through our first line of

[03:11] music now let's look at the beginning of

[03:13] the line one more time and you're gonna

[03:14] notice we've got four four at the

[03:16] beginning that's our time signature

[03:18] future and it tells us and each of these

[03:20] measures we're going to have four

[03:22] beats just like this you can clap along

[03:26] one two three four one two three three

[03:30] four so the notes that are colored in

[03:33] our quarter notes and they get one so

[03:34] we've got four of those in our first

[03:36] measure we got four of those in our

[03:37] second measure and then our third

[03:39] measure we've got two quarter notes so

[03:41] one two and then the half note three

[03:43] four so if we were to count and play

[03:47] this again one two three four one two

[03:52] three four one two hold one two hold and

[03:59] you've just read your first line of

[04:00] music all right let's continue to the

[04:02] next line of music so here things are

[04:04] starting to move around a little bit so

[04:06] that first note you see is Middle C it's

[04:08] in the treble clef we know we're gonna

[04:09] play with our right hand but notice how

[04:11] the notes are now moving up we've got a

[04:13] note that has a line through it that's C

[04:15] then the note right next to it and the

[04:17] next possible spot this is D and then

[04:21] the next possible spot is a line note

[04:22] and that is an e

[04:24] so here is where we really get to put in

[04:26] practice letting go of trying to

[04:28] memorize that this one is e and this one

[04:30] is f and this one is C that'll come in

[04:32] time right now we are simply memorizing

[04:34] that this is C and looking for the

[04:36] pattern the notes are moving up in steps

[04:39] incrementally right next to each other

[04:41] so we can memorize that pattern and we

[04:43] can think c d e and notice I held that e

[04:48] the one that's not colored in for two

[04:49] beats let's do it again c d e

[04:54] now follow along the next measure we

[04:56] play the exact same note we're going to

[04:58] play that e again and this time the

[05:00] pattern is moving down in increments in

[05:02] steps we're moving from a line to a

[05:05] space to a line so we've got step bing

[05:09] up

[05:11] stepping down that feels great now our

[05:15] left hand we're gonna move it so that

[05:18] our five finger that's your baby finger

[05:20] is on the C below middle C and this is

[05:23] the second note I would like you to try

[05:25] to memorize there's only going to be a

[05:27] few of these notes you have to really

[05:28] memorize in this series and this is one

[05:30] of them this is called Losi so it's the

[05:33] C below middle C and you can memorize it

[05:36] because it's in the second space from

[05:38] the bottom of that bass clef and so if

[05:40] we've got our five finger on C here and

[05:42] we've got our right hand one finger on C

[05:44] we're in C position ready to play a C

[05:46] scale but we're reading notes we're not

[05:47] going to do that right now but what I do

[05:49] want you to notice is the pattern we've

[05:51] got a C we're going up to the next

[05:52] possible spot which we can only Zoom as

[05:55] a d and then to the next possible spot

[05:56] which we can only assume is an e for

[05:58] half note and then that e repeats step

[06:01] bang down

[06:04] you got it now in the next line I know

[06:07] this is crazy but I promised you we

[06:08] learned how to play hands together the

[06:10] notes are doing the exact same thing so

[06:11] we've got middle C and we've got low C

[06:14] and if you look you scan with your eyes

[06:16] you can see the notes are stepping up

[06:17] repeat the note and step down so if we

[06:20] can do that together

[06:21] stepping up repeat

[06:25] stepping down take a breath

[06:29] now our left hand is going to play and

[06:31] hold this C and our right hand is going

[06:33] to play middle C step up back to C

[06:38] and then the final measure we're on that

[06:40] first line I'm going to tell you right

[06:41] now it's an e and we're going to play

[06:42] the C again we're going to go step Bing

[06:45] down

[06:47] now if you're thinking oh my gosh this

[06:49] is a lot I didn't get it don't worry

[06:51] we're gonna play this together right now

[06:53] a couple of times I'm going to say the

[06:55] notes out loud with you we're going to

[06:57] go very slowly and by the end of this

[06:59] you will be recognizing these patterns

[07:01] you'll be feeling comfortable with the

[07:03] location of c and this will all like

[07:06] you'll have light bulb moments you'll be

[07:07] like oh my gosh I actually reading these

[07:08] notes so let's go from the beginning

[07:10] right hand is going to be ready left

[07:13] hand is going to be ready to share

[07:14] middle C for the first line take a

[07:17] breath

[07:19] one two here we go c c c c left hand c c

[07:29] c c right hand c c half no let's see C

[07:36] half no right hand step bing up

[07:43] stepping down your left hand five finger

[07:45] ready on Losi

[07:47] stepping up same thing step bang down

[07:52] now we're gonna go together step being

[07:55] up

[07:57] stepping down

[08:00] step up back to C and then e d c you did

[08:07] it one more time together this time

[08:09] we're saying the note names out loud

[08:10] here we go one two here we go c c c c c

[08:16] c c c c so many c c c c c c c now it's

[08:25] gonna move c d e

[08:29] e d c left hand c d e e d c together c d

[08:38] e e

[08:40] d c and then c d c e d c and if it's

[08:48] really tricky to play that left hand C

[08:50] and hold it just worry about your right

[08:51] hand for the end of the song for now

[08:53] until you feel a little bit more

[08:54] practiced and confident all right so

[08:56] there you go now if you're thinking I

[08:58] need a little bit more practice don't

[09:00] worry we've got you covered because we

[09:01] actually have a practice feature that

[09:04] you can play along with you can speed up

[09:06] slow down you can even download the

[09:07] sheet music and it's available for you

[09:09] in a link just below this video

[09:11] completely free so if you want to take

[09:13] advantage of that make sure you check

[09:14] out the link below this video and I'll

[09:16] see you in day two welcome to day two so

[09:20] in day two we're having some more fun

[09:22] with musical patterns so we've got let's

[09:24] just dive in so let's take our right

[09:26] hand you all know by now that the first

[09:27] note we see is Middle C so it lives

[09:30] below the treble clef staff it's got a

[09:31] line through it you're gonna play it

[09:32] here with your right hand one finger now

[09:35] just take a look forward so we we're

[09:37] seeing that we've got a C and then we've

[09:39] got one note exactly just after that

[09:40] it's got to be D and then it steps up

[09:43] again that's e this is familiar from

[09:44] yesterday but then we keep going we've

[09:47] got a note on the space just after that

[09:50] line of e so f and then we're gonna go

[09:53] up one more into the next measure and

[09:54] we've got a g

[09:56] and now this G does not have a stem it

[09:59] doesn't have a line it's just a circle

[10:01] this means it's a whole no it means it

[10:03] takes up the whole measure so you're

[10:04] just going to hold it for the full four

[10:06] beats because we're still in four four

[10:07] each measure gets four beats one two

[10:10] three four also just want to take a

[10:13] moment here to establish this note as

[10:15] another landmark note

[10:17] so if you look at the treble clef and

[10:19] you just kind of like memorize we've got

[10:21] line one we've got line two line two

[10:24] from the bottom is G

[10:26] put it in your brains don't forget it

[10:28] because this is going to help us to

[10:30] orientate ourselves on all the other

[10:31] patterns we see so we can kind of

[10:33] guesstimate our way through the notes so

[10:35] when you see these first two bars you're

[10:37] looking oh the notes are going up and

[10:38] they end on that landmark of G so if we

[10:40] play that together

[10:42] [Music]

[10:48] now we're going to do the same thing in

[10:49] our left hand

[10:50] so looking at the bass clef here in the

[10:52] third measure we've got a note on the

[10:55] second space up from the bottom that is

[10:58] C below middle C five finger goes here

[11:00] and notice we've got

[11:03] space line space line States so the

[11:06] notes are moving consecutively C up up

[11:09] up hold two three four and this is also

[11:13] a g so let's say the note names c d e f

[11:16] g two three four you can even think step

[11:19] bing up so high two three four and then

[11:24] the next line we're just gonna play

[11:26] those same exact notes together with

[11:28] both hands at the same time

[11:30] so try it c d e f g two three four so

[11:37] far so good now in the next measure

[11:40] you're gonna see nothing in the treble

[11:42] clef but you're gonna see two notes

[11:43] stacked on top of each other in the bass

[11:45] clef see it's the bottom one and G is

[11:48] the top one and when they're lined up

[11:50] like that it just means play them

[11:51] together at the exact same time and

[11:53] they're both whole notes so you're gonna

[11:54] hold them for four beats one two three

[11:57] four

[11:58] now in the next measure let's just take

[12:00] a look at the next two measures you're

[12:02] going to notice how on the right hand we

[12:04] start on middle C and the notes are

[12:05] stepping up we can think stepping up so

[12:07] high and in the left hand we're playing

[12:09] the shape and we're holding it for four

[12:11] beats basically hold it for the entirety

[12:13] of both of those measures

[12:15] so all together will sound like stepping

[12:18] up so high two three four

[12:22] so let's take those first two lines and

[12:25] let's cite read them together nice and

[12:27] slow left hand should always be ready to

[12:29] go so get it in position even though

[12:31] we're beginning with our right one two

[12:33] here we go c d e f g two three four C D

[12:44] E F G two three four together C and C C

[12:50] D E F G two three four left hand plays

[12:56] and holds these two three four together

[13:00] and one two three four now the

[13:04] coordination aspect of that can be

[13:06] really challenging when it comes to

[13:08] reading notes and playing notes like

[13:10] both hands at the same time it's sort of

[13:12] two separate issues one of them is

[13:13] understanding what you're supposed to do

[13:15] it's a brain thing and the other thing

[13:17] is actually getting your hands to

[13:18] cooperate and do what your brain already

[13:20] knows it's supposed to do so in this

[13:22] case you can trust that looking at this

[13:24] music you have the information but can

[13:26] be the coordination that's actually the

[13:27] struggle so if that means you need to

[13:29] practice the section A few times before

[13:30] moving on just take a moment to do that

[13:32] otherwise I want to take us through the

[13:34] home stretch of this little piece of

[13:36] music for today and this is where we're

[13:38] reversing our patterns so you'll notice

[13:40] at the beginning of this measure it's in

[13:42] the treble clef right hand we start on

[13:43] line two that's our Landmark note G so

[13:46] just lock that down we're starting on G

[13:47] and then scan notice how the notes are

[13:49] just they're all stepping down so in my

[13:52] head I'm thinking stepping down so low

[13:54] we're starting on g f e d and there's

[13:58] middle C doesn't have a stem this time

[14:00] that's okay okay it's just because it's

[14:01] telling us to hold it for four beats

[14:02] it's a whole note now our left hand

[14:05] also is beginning on G so try to like

[14:07] memorize this when you see a note in the

[14:10] top space of the bass clef that is g and

[14:13] it is this G and if you scan down your

[14:16] eyes can kind of go oh yeah it's taking

[14:18] us and we're all the way going down

[14:19] until we land on the other landmark of C

[14:21] so it goes stepping down so low two

[14:26] three four and we can repeat that step

[14:28] bang down solo just to get comfortable

[14:31] with it

[14:32] and then we can take a deep breath and

[14:33] play the whole line in succession and go

[14:35] g f e d c two three four g f e d c two

[14:43] three four

[14:45] pretty awesome right now final line

[14:48] we're doing a little bit of moving

[14:50] around so this is where you have to pay

[14:51] extra close attention this left hand

[14:53] match shape is familiar we've got our

[14:55] two left Highland mark C and G we're

[14:56] just gonna play them and hold them and

[14:58] on our right hand notice we've got our

[15:00] landmarks but they're separated so C up

[15:02] to our G and back down to our c for half

[15:04] note so we'll do this together we're

[15:06] going to play and hold this at the same

[15:08] time that we play so Boom the right hand

[15:10] travels up and comes back down and now

[15:14] we're gonna play G and G they're doing

[15:17] the same thing f

[15:19] e d and then I'm going to repeat that

[15:23] back to g f

[15:26] [Applause]

[15:27] D and then we're gonna play C and we're

[15:29] gonna hold it

[15:30] with this this is actually called fifth

[15:33] C and G or five apart one two three four

[15:35] five

[15:36] two three four that line is challenging

[15:40] it's kind of like the bonus challenge

[15:41] line so again this might take some

[15:43] practice but we'll play it through

[15:44] together one more time just do the right

[15:45] hand c g c g f e d back to g f e d c

[15:55] left hand one two three four g f e d g f

[16:03] e d and there's our fifth

[16:06] together

[16:08] c g

[16:10] c g f e d g f e d c two three four so

[16:21] what I'm really trying to do here is I'm

[16:23] trying to get you to recognize patterns

[16:25] and music I'm trying to get you to let

[16:27] go of needing to like stop and like okay

[16:28] I'm gonna use my acronym and I know

[16:30] every good boy and I'm gonna figure out

[16:32] that no Okay now what's this next one we

[16:34] want to let go of that so we can

[16:35] efficiently move through lines of music

[16:36] by sort of moving in shapes and patterns

[16:40] and it's going to speed up your sight

[16:41] reading process the reason we're saying

[16:43] the note names out loud is to help

[16:45] reinforce what we're seeing with what

[16:48] the notes are called with what the

[16:49] pitches are on the keyboard so it's like

[16:51] this whole sort of like holistic

[16:53] learning process and the more you do

[16:55] this the more you're going to look at

[16:56] music and just be like oh I know what

[16:57] that is let's go so that's really really

[16:59] exciting now let's play through this

[17:01] whole thing together

[17:03] before we go

[17:05] big breath both hands ready to go

[17:08] just taking a moment to acknowledge the

[17:10] notes are moving up and the right

[17:12] they're going to the left scanning

[17:13] through really feeling good about it one

[17:16] two here we go c d e f g two three four

[17:26] c d e f G two three four together D E F

[17:37] G two three four left two three four

[17:44] together D E F G two three four now g f

[17:53] e d c two three four left g f e d c two

[18:03] three four challenge line c g c

[18:09] stepping down so back to g

[18:13] f e d and home base for four beats

[18:19] and you did it now if this is feeling

[18:21] challenging and you're like oh my hands

[18:22] aren't cooperating yet just play one

[18:24] hand at a time until that feels good

[18:26] then put it hands together and if this

[18:29] takes more than one day spend a couple

[18:30] days here that's okay go at your own

[18:32] pace there's no rush this isn't a race

[18:34] but when you do feel good and you do

[18:36] feel ready I'll see you in day three

[18:38] woohoo we're back day three this one's

[18:41] super fun we're gonna be moving through

[18:43] something called intervals which is

[18:45] really exciting so let's just take a

[18:47] moment look at our music we're starting

[18:49] with the right hand with our good friend

[18:51] middle C and we're just moving

[18:54] up a step down a step up a step that's

[18:58] the first measure so let's just say the

[19:00] notes c d c d nice next measure back to

[19:06] C but this time we're getting crazy

[19:08] we're skipping over D and we're going

[19:11] right to e so what helps me with this is

[19:14] I look at the music and I go Okay C has

[19:16] a line through it and we're not playing

[19:18] the one that's in the space so if we're

[19:20] moving in steps like notes that are

[19:22] right next to each other it's always

[19:23] going to be line space line space or

[19:24] space line space line but here we've got

[19:27] a line note we skip over the space note

[19:30] which would be D and we go right to the

[19:31] next line now and I call that a jump the

[19:35] technical word is a third and I'm

[19:37] playing with my one and my three so it's

[19:40] c e

[19:42] c e next measure back to C we know that

[19:46] one but here we've moved up another step

[19:49] from E and one F so you'll notice the

[19:53] space between C and F is greater so I

[19:56] just I've played more than it's written

[19:57] here I apologize I'm just having fun on

[19:59] this shape which is called a fourth

[20:02] um and now we're going to move to the

[20:03] final measure Landmark notes my friends

[20:06] were up another step to another line and

[20:08] a line we're way too far apart for this

[20:11] to be this note and this note we're at C

[20:13] and G and we've got two of those

[20:17] so let's play the whole line so we've

[20:19] got c d c d now we're gonna go past D up

[20:24] to e which is the first line in the

[20:26] treble clef up past e to F which is the

[20:29] first space in the treble clef and up

[20:32] past that to G second line also a

[20:35] landmark G

[20:36] not so bad

[20:38] now we're going to do the same exact

[20:39] thing with our left hand it's going to

[20:41] look a little bit different because

[20:43] we're beginning on low C which is a

[20:45] space in the bass clef C up a step to D

[20:48] down to C up a step to D so just kind of

[20:52] getting used to that's a space to a line

[20:54] a space to a line space line space line

[20:59] back to low C pass the line to e we're

[21:03] now jumping up we've got two space notes

[21:05] now we're moving up again from C to F

[21:08] we've got a space and a line and now our

[21:11] landmarks of C and G and C and G you've

[21:16] got it now I just want to take a second

[21:19] to talk you through something that I

[21:21] actually didn't figure out until way

[21:23] later in my playing journey and I wish I

[21:25] had known sooner because it made

[21:26] everything make more sense

[21:28] when you're looking at the notes on the

[21:30] staff let's start on low C so let's

[21:32] start on space two of the bass clef

[21:34] that's this note and we're just going to

[21:36] go through the musical alphabet I want

[21:37] to carry you through this we've got C

[21:38] and we've got D and then we've got e and

[21:42] we've got F and then we've got G and

[21:45] then we can keep going there's a line

[21:47] there that's a and then you could put

[21:49] one on top of the line that's B and then

[21:52] check it out we're on middle C remember

[21:54] that from day one

[21:55] so if we keep going we've got d e f

[22:00] we're on our Landmark note G and we can

[22:03] just keep going through the musical

[22:04] alphabet that way it's all connected

[22:06] there weren't some crazy rules invented

[22:08] that were different for bass clef and

[22:09] treble clef names like that's not how

[22:11] this works it's one cohesive consecutive

[22:14] movement from bottom to top and that's

[22:17] why they're named the way they are

[22:20] so when you're playing through these

[22:21] intervals you might have been like well

[22:23] okay well why is C on a line here in the

[22:25] treble clef and this low C is on a space

[22:27] like why are they different

[22:28] that's why so hopefully that helps to

[22:30] put this into perspective for you a

[22:31] little bit all right so you've just

[22:33] played through two brand new lines of

[22:35] music and we're going to continue on

[22:37] we're actually playing something very

[22:38] similar but different so now you're

[22:41] gonna see we've got C and the next note

[22:43] beside it is like they're squished

[22:45] together they're touching c and d and

[22:48] they're played at the same time sounds

[22:50] kind of crunchy I'm gonna play those two

[22:52] times they're half so we could count one

[22:55] two three four notice the bottom note C

[22:59] is staying the same but we're moving

[23:00] from D to e that's the third

[23:04] play together e is now moving up again

[23:06] we've got more space between the notes

[23:07] that's C and F and then it's up again C

[23:10] and G

[23:12] and now our left hand is going to do the

[23:13] same thing five and four on low c and d

[23:16] one two three four C stays we move up a

[23:20] step to E

[23:22] it's a third up a step to F and a fourth

[23:25] of a step to G that's a fifth

[23:29] now things get fun for the final line so

[23:31] let's just look at our left hand first C

[23:33] got our Landmark we skip D we're gonna

[23:35] play e so we've got our third so we'll

[23:37] play that for four two three for C stays

[23:40] we move up a step to F two three four

[23:43] then we're gonna play c g they're nice

[23:47] and far apart G

[23:49] one step down to F

[23:52] and then that fifth

[23:54] so let's do that one more time one two

[23:57] three four e two F two three four c g c

[24:05] g down a step to F your two finger and

[24:08] then C and G

[24:10] with our right hand see we know this

[24:13] we're comfortable there we're not

[24:15] playing D we're skipping so we've got a

[24:17] line note to a line note that's the

[24:18] space of a third c e c e c hard work

[24:25] silver I'm gonna play c and e together

[24:27] it's a third we're gonna step up from E

[24:29] to F that's our fourth

[24:31] and we're gonna come back to our third

[24:34] all together and again if this is your

[24:36] coordination isn't there yet don't worry

[24:37] we're just we're learning to look for

[24:39] these shapes these distances between the

[24:40] notes you can do hands separately if you

[24:42] need to otherwise

[24:44] [Music]

[24:46] c e c that's kind of pretty now our

[24:51] right hand is going to play c and e our

[24:53] left hand c g c

[24:57] G and then C and F two three four and

[25:01] then

[25:01] [Music]

[25:03] sounds like a really lovely ending this

[25:05] one's a challenging line for um hand

[25:08] coordination so maybe take another pass

[25:11] at it let's do it together c e c e c two

[25:17] three four left hand is doing the moving

[25:21] and then f with C and F here and there

[25:27] we go

[25:28] all right whole thing together we're

[25:30] gonna count through it hands ready deep

[25:34] breath one two here we go c d c d c e c

[25:44] e c f c f c g c g left hands turn c d c

[25:54] d c up to e you think five and three

[25:58] fingers c f five and two

[26:02] and then C and G C G right hand c and d

[26:07] c and d c and e

[26:11] or you get

[26:13] or you get fourth

[26:14] fourth and fifth fifth left hand one two

[26:20] this is called the second

[26:22] this is a third

[26:24] here's our fourth two three four and

[26:28] fifth two three four get your hands

[26:31] ready c e c e c with the fourth and the

[26:36] left

[26:37] and now our hands switch rolls

[26:40] and here's our fourth with an F in the

[26:43] left and one two three four

[26:48] you did it okay so again there's new

[26:52] things here we're sight reading we're

[26:54] actually developing hand coordination

[26:55] and Independence as we go so take as

[26:58] much time as you need you can split this

[27:00] up especially that last line to hand

[27:01] separate if you need to spend some time

[27:03] here remember you don't have to do this

[27:05] all in one day if you need a couple days

[27:07] on this that is absolutely fine when

[27:10] you're ready I'll see you at day four

[27:12] all right we're at day four and this is

[27:14] really exciting because we're gonna play

[27:16] a song but I'm not gonna tell you what

[27:17] it is because we're sight reading so you

[27:19] gotta figure it out but I'm here to walk

[27:21] you through all the steps plus you

[27:23] already have all the skills for this so

[27:25] before we start playing here's a super

[27:27] valuable skill as a sight reader take a

[27:29] moment to just I call it a pre-trip and

[27:32] do a pre-trip on the first line of your

[27:34] music so if you look you go okay you got

[27:36] four four good where did my hands start

[27:39] well left hand looks like it's an

[27:42] interval so we've got those notes that

[27:43] are spaced out and their Landmark notes

[27:45] second space from the bottom that would

[27:46] be C and this is G okay where does our

[27:50] right hand start that's not C hmm but I

[27:54] do know that if I kind of look here

[27:56] we've got a C is the third note I could

[27:58] count up c d e

[28:00] line one is e I'm gonna tell you that

[28:02] but that would be like a thought process

[28:03] to help you arrive there if you haven't

[28:05] memorized what all the note names are

[28:07] yet which I'm assuming you haven't

[28:08] because like I said super hard brand new

[28:10] language so we've got e here

[28:13] pattern is stepping down

[28:15] then we come back up measure two has

[28:17] three repeated E's

[28:20] then measure three we move down a step

[28:23] from the A and we've got three repeated

[28:24] D's and then we've got another okay

[28:27] we've got e and then we're jumping up to

[28:29] G so we've got that interval of a third

[28:30] a line note to a line note so my brain's

[28:32] like okay all right I see what's going

[28:34] on and then I scan through with my left

[28:36] hand and I'm like oh that's a fifth here

[28:38] and it's another one and it's another

[28:39] one and then we just put the top note of

[28:41] it and then back to C and then back up

[28:43] so my brain's already kind of got an

[28:46] idea of what's coming so now it's just a

[28:49] matter of getting my hands to do what's

[28:51] on the page so let's just pretend our

[28:54] left hand is taking a little vacation

[28:55] we'll come back to it in a moment and

[28:57] we'll figure out our right hand first so

[28:59] we've got e and we've got that step Bing

[29:01] down pattern and then it just changes

[29:03] Direction and steps back up so we could

[29:05] go stepping down and we've got three E's

[29:09] here

[29:11] you probably figured out the song

[29:13] already I know

[29:14] um so let's do it again e d c d e e

[29:20] half no step down d d half no Step Up e

[29:26] and jump up to G

[29:29] next line great news friends it repeats

[29:31] starts on either three finger step Bing

[29:34] down there's our front middle C step up

[29:36] to d three E's down to D up a step down

[29:43] a step and middle C

[29:45] your sight reading so our left hand is

[29:48] pretty straightforward we just got some

[29:49] of these

[29:50] um so you could play through that half

[29:53] no great big hole half note on C half

[29:58] note on G together

[30:01] half note half note G two three four c g

[30:07] c

[30:09] what's your left hand see JC is standing

[30:11] so we're gonna go a little slower

[30:13] we're going to put this together you can

[30:16] say the note names out loud with me that

[30:17] is ideal because this can help to

[30:18] reinforce what you're doing third finger

[30:20] on E

[30:21] C and G has a fifth and the left e

[30:24] d

[30:25] c d e e

[30:29] [Applause]

[30:32] D D D D left hand was down E G and G

[30:39] together and again if this is too hard

[30:42] right now just pick one hand and join me

[30:44] with one hand

[30:45] [Music]

[30:54] did it and it sounded really pretty so

[30:57] it is difficult to coordinate the hands

[30:59] especially like let's look at measure

[31:00] two we have to play e e and then we play

[31:03] it together again so this is one two

[31:06] three four this is one two three four

[31:11] there you go so comment below name the

[31:14] song and have fun practicing this when

[31:16] you are ready I'll see you at day five

[31:20] welcome to day five we are playing

[31:22] something super beautiful today and

[31:24] there's something new on your music so

[31:25] look closely

[31:27] you may notice that instead of it saying

[31:30] four four and the time signature we've

[31:31] got three four what does this mean well

[31:35] instead of there being one two three

[31:36] four beats in a measure there's one two

[31:40] three one two three it's gonna make your

[31:42] music feel a little different so just

[31:44] keep in mind we're counting to threes

[31:47] now starting with our left hand

[31:50] first note is Landmark note second space

[31:53] from the bottom in the bass clef low C

[31:57] so don't be intimidated because I know

[31:58] this music looks like there's a lot

[31:59] going on it's just patterns so the first

[32:03] measure we're playing C skipping D

[32:05] jumping up to e there's a third and then

[32:08] we've got our Landmark note of G so this

[32:09] is literally going jump up high it's

[32:12] playing a third and a third then our

[32:14] right hand comes in middle C and look at

[32:16] line line we're playing jump up high in

[32:20] our right hand same pattern so and if

[32:23] you want to you can press your pedal

[32:24] down because it'll sound like this

[32:27] and then it repeats

[32:30] so pretty it's just a c chord Play

[32:33] Broken one note at a time in each hand

[32:35] lovely okay so that's the first line

[32:38] feels good we've already played a whole

[32:40] line of music

[32:41] Thin Line things change a little bit so

[32:43] we just need to be careful for the first

[32:45] few moments here but we've got C again

[32:48] this is good but our next note is not e

[32:52] um it's actually one step up from e

[32:55] and our next note is not g it's actually

[32:57] one step up from G which is a so

[33:01] this is where you're gonna really have

[33:03] to like stop and think about where your

[33:05] Landmark notes are so you can orientate

[33:07] yourself around where you need to play

[33:09] so we know that this is seat this is a

[33:11] landmark note we can count up C next is

[33:14] D next is e next is f and soon

[33:16] eventually you're gonna memorize that

[33:18] that distance is a fourth it's this one

[33:20] two three four and then you can look at

[33:22] this F and you can go it's a line note

[33:24] oh my gosh we're skipping the space

[33:26] which is Gene we're just going to a it's

[33:28] it's a third

[33:30] c f a right hand and he guesses the same

[33:34] note c f a

[33:37] repeat f a c f a

[33:43] next line things are going to change

[33:46] again so

[33:48] left hand we normally start on C but

[33:51] look at this note is one below C it's

[33:54] going to sound crunchy at first I

[33:55] promise it's going to sound beautiful in

[33:57] a moment this is familiar we've played F

[33:59] before and then Landmark nope

[34:02] left hand same deal it's not my left

[34:04] hand I meant to say right hand I'm just

[34:05] taking a check if you're paying

[34:06] attention C is not the note but it's one

[34:09] step undersea B

[34:11] f

[34:13] G so let's just beginning of that line b

[34:17] f g b f

[34:21] G I'm holding my pedal b f g b f g and

[34:28] then we can reset our hands look at back

[34:30] to our jump up high pattern on C jump up

[34:35] high now don't freak out I'm gonna tell

[34:37] you exactly what to do here you're like

[34:38] what there's a new note it looks

[34:40] different it's way up high that's high C

[34:42] it's the C above middle C and for the

[34:45] fun of it because we want to be fancy

[34:46] today I want you to take your left hand

[34:47] cross it up and over

[34:49] and play it here

[34:51] so if we back up c e g c e g up and over

[34:57] C you can play with anything you like

[34:59] I'm playing it with my two finger and

[35:01] then back to home base we're playing C

[35:02] here and in our left hand we're playing

[35:04] a nice I haven't seen this one before

[35:06] this is gonna be a full c chord so we've

[35:09] got a C with an e in the middle and a g

[35:12] on the top but all play together so it

[35:13] sounds like this

[35:15] full and rich now this is a note value

[35:19] called a dotted half note so a half note

[35:21] equals two when you put a dot beside it

[35:23] it adds half of the value of the note

[35:25] it's beside to it which sounds very

[35:27] complicated when you say out loud I'm

[35:29] gonna just tell you right now dotted

[35:31] half note here means three Beats

[35:33] um so you could think half note equals

[35:35] two

[35:36] half of two is one that's what the dot

[35:38] gets add it to two two plus one is three

[35:40] ta-da we have our dotted half note and

[35:43] in my head I always think half no dot

[35:45] because that is three syllables and it

[35:48] makes it nice and easy for me to count

[35:49] in my head

[35:50] so before we play this all together

[35:52] let's just review the shapes the first

[35:54] line we're playing with c e and G let's

[35:56] jump up high

[35:57] the second line we're playing with c f

[36:00] and a so there's a fourth here and then

[36:03] we're moving up a third to the a fourth

[36:06] third CFA then we're moving everybody's

[36:09] kind of Shifting around here this is the

[36:10] tricky one b f

[36:13] and G so you've got G as a landmark note

[36:16] and you played F in the measure before

[36:19] and then we go back to our jump up high

[36:22] or C chord c e g to finish the song

[36:26] you're welcome to use the pedal lift it

[36:28] after each line so it doesn't start to

[36:29] sound muddy but all together

[36:33] what

[36:34] two here we go c e g c e g c e g c e g c

[36:47] f a c f another

[36:52] CFA c f a now this is a big move so this

[36:56] will take practice to get

[36:58] accurate take him take a moment here b f

[37:01] g b f g b f g b f g and c e g c e g up

[37:13] and over C two three two three I feel

[37:18] like a real

[37:20] piano player after like this one I know

[37:22] there's something really exciting about

[37:23] taking your hand up and over and playing

[37:25] a crossover it's pretty fun and the cool

[37:28] thing is once you really get this one

[37:31] speed it up

[37:32] [Music]

[37:41] so

[37:43] take advantage of that practice feature

[37:45] it's really going to help you to

[37:46] practice this song

[37:48] um so take your time practice speed it

[37:51] up slow it down find a temple that feels

[37:53] good for you and I'll see you at day six

[37:57] all right welcome back day six we've

[37:59] come so far so day six is pretty cool

[38:01] we're gonna be playing something that

[38:03] sounds familiar you'll probably know the

[38:05] song but before we do that we have to

[38:07] learn a new rhythmic value because

[38:09] reading notes or sight reading isn't

[38:10] just about knowing what note names to

[38:12] play it's about understanding the timing

[38:14] of them how to play them in time so

[38:17] we've got a whole bunch of C's my

[38:19] friends so we're just just be practicing

[38:21] this New Concept with our right hand and

[38:23] we've got see see we've got quarter

[38:26] notes c c they all equal one now in the

[38:29] next measure there's a lot going on

[38:31] we've got a whole bunch of C's there's

[38:33] more of them this time and they're

[38:34] connected by these little stems these

[38:37] are called eighth notes so you can play

[38:41] two eighth notes in the time that it

[38:43] takes to play one quarter note and this

[38:46] is why we count them as one and two and

[38:48] three and four and instead of one two

[38:51] three four

[38:53] so bear with me if you can clap that

[38:54] would be really really good so try

[38:55] clapping along we're gonna go one and

[38:58] two and three and

[39:00] one and one and two and three three and

[39:04] four and one

[39:06] two and three and four and one and two

[39:10] and three and four and

[39:12] and that's how eighth notes work so

[39:14] they're fun to play because they're

[39:15] faster and they equal half of the value

[39:18] of their quarter note counterpart so two

[39:20] eighth notes together equals one B so if

[39:23] we were to play that line make it

[39:24] musical we're back in four or four time

[39:26] just wanted to point that out we're

[39:28] gonna go one two three and four and one

[39:33] and two and three and four and one and

[39:38] two and three and four and one and two

[39:42] and three and four and all right so in

[39:46] the next line we've got more eighth

[39:47] notes but they look a little bit

[39:48] different the stem or the line that's

[39:51] connecting them together is longer so

[39:54] we've got one two three four eighths

[39:56] notes and this is how they're typically

[39:59] shown so when you have a succession of

[40:00] eighth notes all side by side there will

[40:03] usually be a stem connecting them

[40:05] um we showed them in little groupings

[40:07] earlier to help make sense of there's

[40:10] one beat there's two beats there's three

[40:11] beads there's four beats so here you

[40:13] have to kind of think oh I got a base I

[40:15] gotta really count this one and two and

[40:17] three and four and

[40:19] same thing it just looks a little

[40:21] different I want you to get used to

[40:22] seeing them both ways one and two and

[40:25] three and four and one and now the notes

[40:28] are moving up three and four and one and

[40:32] two and three and four and those half

[40:35] notes at the end

[40:36] so let's play this we'll count out loud

[40:38] together

[40:39] one two here we go one and two and three

[40:46] and four and one and two and three and

[40:49] four and one and two and three and four

[40:53] and one and two and three and four and I

[40:57] need to give you a heads up those notes

[40:59] are stepping out so I and then stepping

[41:01] down so low but hopefully you saw that

[41:04] pattern and you were like oh my gosh I

[41:05] knew it do we've talked about this

[41:07] before those notes are moving up I got

[41:08] this so that's a little crash course on

[41:11] eighth notes now on to the fun stuff

[41:13] because we're gonna play something

[41:14] familiar one of my favorite songs

[41:16] actually so let's just start with the

[41:20] left hand because we gotta get this

[41:22] ready we gotta know what we're doing

[41:23] we're gonna scan through bass clef we've

[41:25] got on mark C maybe you recognize this

[41:27] shape instantly right now and you're

[41:29] like oh I know that that's Fifth and

[41:30] next measure we're just hanging on to G

[41:32] next measure we're stepping down one

[41:34] from G that's f

[41:36] knowing how to say your alphabet

[41:38] backwards is like really really

[41:39] important to being a good sight reader

[41:41] so if you don't know how to say your

[41:43] alphabet backwards that's something that

[41:44] you should practice f e d c b a g

[41:47] anyways whole note

[41:50] g

[41:52] f and back to that beautiful fifth on

[41:55] CNG all right now let's look at our

[41:57] right hand so we know the first note is

[41:59] Middle C that one's familiar but this

[42:02] next note we did see it make a guest

[42:04] appearance in our last song from

[42:06] yesterday

[42:08] um but this is heisty It's the C above

[42:11] middle C it's on the third space from

[42:15] the bottom when you're looking at the

[42:17] treble clef and if you're a fan of

[42:18] acronyms you can spell the word face

[42:20] from bottom to top to help you identify

[42:22] these note names but this is just C no C

[42:25] middle C I lied middle C all the way up

[42:29] to high C they call that an octave same

[42:31] note different places if you've got

[42:33] teeny hands don't worry hold this for

[42:35] two beats Let It Go and tip onto your

[42:37] five finger to get to the high C and

[42:40] we'll count the Rhythm one two three

[42:44] four okay so here

[42:47] we've got a note that's one step down

[42:49] from high C from where we are because

[42:51] we're going from space down a step to

[42:54] the line

[42:55] okay and now

[42:57] just sort of take a moment to look at

[42:58] the patterns here we've got a line note

[43:00] we're skipping

[43:02] a we're jumping we've got a third also

[43:05] this is your Landmark note friends we're

[43:07] on G now it steps up steps up back to

[43:12] high c

[43:14] down to middle C

[43:16] I'm going to tell you the name of this

[43:18] note and we'll work on it a little bit

[43:20] later this is a

[43:21] and then Landmark note of G

[43:24] okay

[43:26] whoo

[43:27] so let's do this again C two up to high

[43:32] c three

[43:33] four and now we're gonna go down to B

[43:35] just down a step

[43:36] Landmark note to G A there's our eighth

[43:40] notes up to B and then

[43:44] high C so this this whole measure two

[43:46] starts on B

[43:48] tips or jumps down to G steps all the

[43:50] way up to C again and then back to

[43:53] middle C we're familiar with this we've

[43:56] got a and then Landmark node of G

[44:00] I'm familiar yet

[44:01] so our left hand is very simple one two

[44:05] three four B with G one and two and

[44:10] three and

[44:12] four and C is going to play with f one

[44:15] two

[44:16] three and four and G with a fifth in the

[44:21] left hand

[44:22] so pretty

[44:24] so this is where you know we're not kind

[44:27] of in this comfortable five note scale

[44:29] Zone anymore we've moved outside of it

[44:31] and it could be pushing your comfort

[44:33] zone a little bit and that's a good

[44:35] thing

[44:36] um and this is where it's okay to have

[44:38] that mixture of

[44:40] guesstimating through the notes using

[44:43] your acronyms if you ever took music in

[44:46] um like band class or you had piano

[44:48] lessons as a child you may have heard

[44:51] the acronyms and if you haven't I'm just

[44:52] going to tell them to you right now so

[44:54] you can use them as a backup plan if you

[44:55] need to treble clef if you spell the

[44:57] word face from the bottom to the top

[45:00] it's going to tell you the note names

[45:01] f-a-c-e

[45:03] or if you want to use the lines from

[45:05] bottom to top you could use Every Good

[45:08] Boy Deserves french fries or you could

[45:10] make up any acronym you like and that's

[45:12] going to help you to identify those

[45:13] names and in the bass clef the spaces

[45:16] the common one I grew up with was all

[45:18] cows eat grass and then for the lines

[45:20] was good boys to serve french fries

[45:23] always again you can make up any acronym

[45:26] you like those are the ones I was used

[45:28] to so for me over the years I initially

[45:31] started trying to use that acronym every

[45:32] time I had to play a note and that was

[45:34] not efficient then I tried to memorize

[45:36] them but I couldn't so it doesn't matter

[45:38] how many flash cards I saw I was just

[45:40] like ah you put music in front of me and

[45:42] I was lost

[45:43] so it became a combination of learning

[45:47] certain notes and making them Landmark

[45:48] notes just committing to I'm gonna know

[45:50] when I see this note It's gotta be this

[45:52] c

[45:53] um and that's what we've done we've

[45:54] Landmark C we've Landmark G in both the

[45:57] treble and the bass clef

[45:58] and so that's super helpful learning to

[46:00] find patterns in music and recognize the

[46:02] distances between notes so that you can

[46:04] go off Landmark nope that's a c and I

[46:06] know that this note's just a jump above

[46:08] it I didn't have to think ah I ever get

[46:10] no I just don't know to jump above

[46:11] there's the note this is what we're

[46:13] trying to do here is give you a bunch of

[46:15] tools that you can use and then when you

[46:17] see a piece of music that might be

[46:18] challenging you can grab from your

[46:21] little tool bucket do you put tools in a

[46:23] bucket tool to a kid and then be able to

[46:27] figure this out and this is the other

[46:29] big secret about sight reading is you

[46:31] know some people just can sit down and

[46:32] sight read and others have to like

[46:34] slowly figure out the notes played a few

[46:36] times memorize it nothing wrong with

[46:39] that as long as you're doing it

[46:40] correctly and then put it all together

[46:41] so

[46:43] all that to say we're going to play this

[46:45] little little bit one more time and then

[46:47] we've got our final day it's a bit of a

[46:48] bigger song

[46:49] um and we'll also be familiar and it'll

[46:51] be a ton of fun so here we go hands

[46:53] ready I'm gonna prepare for the stretch

[46:55] because I know this is where I'm going

[46:56] one two here we go see

[47:02] Hi-C

[47:06] this is going to be f with C A and then

[47:10] G with a fifth in the left hand

[47:13] awesome you did it so happy practicing I

[47:16] will see you in day seven

[47:18] congratulations you made it to day seven

[47:21] we are playing a full song what what uh

[47:24] and there are a lot of notes on the page

[47:25] but you have all of the skills that you

[47:28] need to be able to do this so we are

[47:30] going to be working on this one hand at

[47:32] a time we're going to start with our

[47:34] right hands I want you to ignore all of

[47:35] the left hand notes for now we're gonna

[47:38] figure out where we start and we're

[47:39] going to just sort of scan the music

[47:41] right now to look for patterns and then

[47:42] we're gonna just play it see what

[47:43] happens

[47:44] so our first note see if you can beat me

[47:46] to it is

[47:48] e so it's the very first line on the

[47:52] treble clef it's one two three up a

[47:55] third from middle C and so if you just

[47:57] look you're like oh look at you got two

[47:58] e's Step Up Step Up repeat down down

[48:01] down oh there's C our friend C and then

[48:03] step up and so you can kind of just see

[48:05] like the music is just like moving very

[48:07] fluidly up and down so let's just see if

[48:10] we can play that line together no stress

[48:12] just nice and slow we're gonna start on

[48:14] E one two here we go e e f g g f e d c c

[48:28] d e e d

[48:32] sound familiar

[48:34] next line is basically the same so we're

[48:37] going to start with E again e e Step Up

[48:40] f g g f e d down to c c d e d c c so

[48:52] they were the same that's awesome so

[48:54] once you play the first one you've got

[48:55] the first two lines of the song all

[48:57] right line three is a little bit

[48:58] different so let's just take a moment

[49:00] we've got some crazy rhythms we see our

[49:02] eighth notes in here we are starting on

[49:04] a new note this is one step up from C

[49:07] this is d so again if you're looking at

[49:10] that you're like I don't know what note

[49:11] it is don't stress this isn't about

[49:13] perfection right now this is about

[49:14] practice and improving our skills so if

[49:17] you have to be told that that's D and

[49:19] then you can take it from there it's no

[49:21] problem so we start on d d we're just

[49:24] going to clap this e c one and two and

[49:28] three and four and one and two and three

[49:32] and four and one and two and rest

[49:37] so let's play it starting on D with our

[49:39] two finger d d

[49:42] e there's our c d now we're gonna go e f

[49:46] e c let's play that measure again

[49:49] because it's a little bit tricky d e f e

[49:53] c kind of thing next measure d e f e d c

[50:00] d we've got a break because we're gonna

[50:02] play the G with our left hand later and

[50:04] then familiar territory friends e e f g

[50:09] repeat the G we're stepping down we're

[50:12] still stepping down we've got our friend

[50:14] C here Step Up Step Up step down and see

[50:20] you got the right hand so let's take a

[50:22] look at the left hand left hand's a

[50:24] little bit more complicated than this

[50:25] one

[50:27] so take a breath you know play this

[50:29] fifth by now that's feeling really

[50:30] familiar and then our first note outside

[50:33] of that is this e here so you could

[50:37] think like a jump down from G or jump up

[50:39] from C or you could just know that this

[50:42] is e then we're going to step down

[50:46] down to C and here's this little bit of

[50:49] a of a leap here so it's all the way up

[50:52] to F so this is going to be the most

[50:54] challenging Parts we've got our fifth

[50:55] we've got e d see up to F down to e up

[51:03] to f

[51:04] up to G and we've got another G

[51:08] then we're going to play that fifth

[51:09] again

[51:10] back to e down to C up to F with their

[51:14] two finger e e f g and then we're gonna

[51:19] step down to e

[51:22] then things get real simple whole

[51:24] measure of G

[51:27] I'll measure of G

[51:29] another whole measure of G

[51:31] and then we wait for two beats one two

[51:34] that little rest it's like it looks like

[51:36] a little Top Hat it's called a half rest

[51:37] and it equals the same amount as a half

[51:39] note so you just do nothing for two

[51:40] beats nothing nothing half no back to

[51:44] your full whole notes Here of CNG and

[51:47] then e d c familiar up to f

[51:52] down to e up

[51:54] up down e e you might be thinking that

[52:00] doesn't sound like anything Lisa well

[52:01] you're right doesn't really sound like a

[52:03] song but when you put it together it's

[52:05] going to harmonize it means it's going

[52:07] to create a really beautiful

[52:07] complementary sound so if you need to

[52:11] take time to learn these parts

[52:12] individually please take your time to do

[52:14] that but when you're ready we can put it

[52:16] together and it will sound like this

[52:20] one two here we go e e f g Get this e

[52:28] ready in the left we're stepping down

[52:30] together and then two fingers play at

[52:32] the same time is that amazing that's the

[52:34] hardest part I promise it's the hardest

[52:36] part of the whole thing so I just want

[52:37] to talk you through it one more time

[52:39] just to get the feel for it we're moving

[52:40] together eat

[52:41] up to G the second time we play G we're

[52:45] also playing e in our left hand now

[52:47] notice the notes are both moving in the

[52:50] same direction until we get to the end

[52:52] of the measure and all you have to think

[52:53] about friends is just play your two

[52:54] finger with each hand two finger two

[52:57] finger F and D now we can move together

[52:59] again so down both hands are going down

[53:02] this one's C and this one's e now both

[53:04] hands are moving up

[53:09] and then it repeats so get your third

[53:37] different things between the hands

[53:38] they're harmonizing each other and it's
