My First 6 Weeks on YouTube Got 10 Views
46sRelatable struggle and sudden breakthrough resonate with aspiring creators.
▶ Play ClipThe video details the creator's first 6 months of YouTube monetization after hitting 1,000 subscribers, including monthly earnings, RPM changes, and key lessons learned. It provides a transparent breakdown of how much money was made from AdSense and how revenue fluctuated with video performance.
The creator started the channel in April, and for the first 6 weeks videos got less than 10 views each.
The 12th video unexpectedly took off, leading to 1,000 subscribers in 8 days and monetization shortly after.
Requirements: 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours. It took 59 days for subscribers and 71 days for watch hours.
June: 102,000 views, $8.74 (only last day paid). July: 167,000 views, $675.29. August: 92,000 views, $412.99. September: 64,000 views, $236.63. October: 86,000 views, $414.15. November: 134,000 views, $659.58.
RPM started at $2.73 and improved to $6.58 over six months, meaning 2-3x more money per 1,000 views.
First breakthrough often comes from an unexpected video; monetization is the start, not the finish line.

7:14[00:00] In this video, I'm going to share with
[00:01] you how much YouTube paid me in the
[00:03] first 6 months after hitting 1,000
[00:06] subscribers. So, to give you a bit of
[00:08] context, I started this channel in April
[00:10] of this year. And for the first 6 weeks,
[00:13] you can see that my videos were getting
[00:15] basically no views at all. I mean, I
[00:17] remember posting some videos that were
[00:19] getting less than 10 views each. And of
[00:22] course, to pour your heart and soul into
[00:23] your videos and for them to get
[00:26] essentially no views, it does sting a
[00:28] little bit. like let's just be honest
[00:29] with each other. But I knew I had to
[00:32] keep going. And I think it was the 12th
[00:34] video that I posted, which is this one
[00:37] right here, is the one that really,
[00:39] really took off. And you can see that in
[00:41] the 8 days after posting that video, my
[00:43] channel hit 1,000 subscribers and I got
[00:46] monetized just a couple weeks after
[00:48] that, which was such a crazy feeling.
[00:51] Like, I never expected in my wildest
[00:54] dreams for the channel to take off that
[00:56] quickly. Now, if you're unsure about how
[00:59] monetization on YouTube works, you
[01:01] essentially need two requirements to get
[01:03] monetized. So, you need to hit 1,000
[01:06] subscribers and also 4,000 watch hours.
[01:10] And for most people, myself included,
[01:12] they will hit 1,000 subscribers first
[01:15] and then it usually takes a little bit
[01:16] longer to hit 4,000 watch hours. So, for
[01:20] me, it took 59 days to hit 1,000
[01:22] subscribers after posting my first
[01:25] video. and it took 71 days to hit 4,000
[01:28] watch hours. So that's around 10 weeks.
[01:30] And once you hit those requirements, you
[01:32] have to actually apply to get monetized.
[01:35] So after I applied, it took about 8 days
[01:37] for me to actually start earning money
[01:39] from AdSense. So now let's dive into how
[01:42] much money YouTube actually paid me in
[01:44] my first 6 months of being [music]
[01:46] monetized. Okay, so we'll start off with
[01:48] month number one. And the reason I'm
[01:50] doing it month by month is because later
[01:53] in the video, I want to show you
[01:55] something about how the amount of money
[01:56] that you make per 1,000 views actually
[02:00] changes as you get further into the
[02:02] partnership program. And I think you're
[02:04] going to find that really interesting.
[02:05] So, in June, my channel received 102,000
[02:09] views. I gained 3.9,000
[02:12] subscribers and I made a grand total of
[02:15] $8.74,
[02:18] which sounds really bad, but it's only
[02:20] because I only actually got paid for the
[02:22] last day of the month. So, let's move on
[02:25] to July. Now, this was my first full
[02:28] month of being monetized, and this month
[02:30] was absolutely insane because I actually
[02:32] had two videos that were popping off at
[02:35] the same time. So, you can see that my
[02:36] views were much higher. So, I received
[02:39] 167,000 views, 5.7,000
[02:43] subscribers, which is crazy. And I got
[02:45] paid a grand total of $67529.
[02:52] Now, of course, this isn't life-changing
[02:54] money. You know, I definitely can't live
[02:56] on this as a monthly income, but to me,
[02:59] this is still amazing. You know, it pays
[03:01] for some bills and maybe a few nights
[03:03] out in the month. And also, just to be
[03:05] fully transparent, this isn't the main
[03:07] way that I make money from this channel.
[03:09] I actually have a community for beginner
[03:12] creators and a couple other things as
[03:14] well, which by the way, some of our
[03:15] members inside the community are getting
[03:17] insane results at the moment. So, if you
[03:20] are struggling to grow your audience,
[03:21] link in the description. I can help you
[03:23] out. Okay, so in August, my channel
[03:25] received 92,000 views, 2.3,000
[03:28] subscribers, and I made $412.99.
[03:33] So you can see it's actually come down a
[03:35] little bit from the month before. Now
[03:36] September is where things get a little
[03:38] bit interesting. And one of the reasons
[03:40] why I wanted to show you this month by
[03:42] month is to show you just how much your
[03:45] income is going to fluctuate when you
[03:47] get monetized. For example, in this
[03:49] month I gained 64,000 views, 1.4,000
[03:53] 4,000 subscribers, but I only made
[03:55] $23663,
[03:59] which is actually only a third of what I
[04:02] made a couple of months before. But this
[04:04] is totally normal because every channel
[04:07] has videos that take off and then of
[04:10] course those videos have to come back
[04:11] down and you just have to get used to
[04:13] the fact that your income is also going
[04:15] to go up and then it's going to come
[04:17] right back down with the views. So in
[04:19] October things started to pick back up
[04:21] again. So, I gained 86,000 views, 2,000
[04:25] subscribers, and made $414.15.
[04:31] And finally, last month in November, I
[04:34] had another video that did quite well,
[04:36] and I received $134,000
[04:39] views, 3.3,000 subscribers, and I made a
[04:42] grand total of $65958,
[04:47] which is almost my best month so far. In
[04:50] fact, I had this day right here where I
[04:52] received $44. And I'm pretty sure that's
[04:54] the most I've made so far in a single
[04:57] day. Now, like I said, this definitely
[04:59] isn't life-changing money. And I tell
[05:02] you guys this literally all the time,
[05:04] but YouTube AdSense is never going to be
[05:06] your main source of income as a creator.
[05:09] For example, if you do want to become a
[05:11] full-time creator, then you can make so
[05:14] so much more money from sponsorships and
[05:16] of course creating your own products as
[05:18] well. Now, the next thing I want to show
[05:20] you is really interesting, and I wasn't
[05:23] actually aware of this before I got
[05:25] monetized. So, I want to talk to you
[05:27] about something called RPM, and how that
[05:29] actually changes over time. So, your RPM
[05:32] is basically the amount of money that
[05:34] you get paid per 1,000 views on your
[05:37] videos. For example, if your RPM was $5,
[05:42] every 1,000 views that you get on your
[05:44] channel, you make $5. But something I
[05:47] didn't know is that when you get
[05:49] monetized, your RPM can actually
[05:52] drastically improve over time. So you
[05:54] can see that when I got monetized, my
[05:57] RPM was $2.73.
[06:01] And this number is pretty low. But you
[06:04] can see that over the course of the next
[06:06] six months, my RPM slowly but surely
[06:09] improves all the way up to $658,
[06:14] which is crazy because that means I'm
[06:16] making two to three times more money for
[06:18] every 1,000 views that I get on my
[06:20] videos. So, I want to end this video by
[06:22] giving you a couple of lessons that I
[06:25] really wish I knew before I got
[06:27] monetized. And if you're still on your
[06:29] journey towards monetization, I think
[06:31] you're going to find this really
[06:32] valuable. So, the first lesson is that
[06:34] your first breakthrough will always come
[06:37] from an unexpected video. It's almost
[06:40] always the video that you didn't really
[06:42] expect to take off. For example, the
[06:44] first video of mine that blew up was
[06:46] essentially just a yapping video. There
[06:49] was no fancy editing. I didn't really
[06:51] put that much work into it. It was
[06:52] basically just me telling a personal
[06:54] story and sharing my experiences. And
[06:58] then on the other hand, I've had videos
[06:59] that I've spent absolutely ages on and
[07:02] I've poured my heart and soul into and
[07:04] they've just completely bombed. And
[07:06] that's kind of the irony of YouTube. The
[07:09] less you try hard to impress people, the
[07:12] more impressive you become. And the
[07:14] second lesson is that monetization is
[07:16] the start, not the finish line. So I
[07:19] think a lot of new creators, they treat
[07:22] monetization like it's the end goal and
[07:25] it's all that really matters. But once
[07:26] you actually get monetized, you realize
[07:29] that it's literally just level one. And
[07:31] there are so many more levels to
[07:33] becoming a full-time creator and turning
[07:36] all this into a full-time business. And
[07:38] on that note, if you do want to dive
[07:40] into the easiest way to make money as a
[07:42] small creator, even if you're not
[07:44] monetized, I actually made this video
[07:46] right here where I give you an ultra
[07:48] simple blueprint on how I reached my
[07:50] first $10,000 month as a complete
[07:53] beginner. So yeah, click onto that video
[07:56] and [music] I'll see you there.
