[02:11] switches in an environment. So, we're gonna actually see the physical equipment being set up from start to finish. And uh if you all have questions, please go ahead and throw them in the chat as we are going through

[02:23] them and we'll pick them out and try to answer them as we can. If you're not familiar with what this is, you're wondering what's going on. The summer of CCNA is a program from Network Chuck Academy where we are teaching y'all in

[09:24] change the fundamentals and you're going to get job ready either way. So 1.2 or 1.8 or 2.10, it doesn't matter. It's all the same. It's a CCNA. Go get yourself job ready &gt;&gt; for sure. If people aren't familiar with

[17:38] that kind of stuff. We had battles. Port security was involved. It was awesome. Um so for old times sake, I brought back uh the Lego guys. Uh my my now seven-year-old and 10-year-old came and set them up uh this time around and

[17:53] again?" I'm like, "Don't you remember?" and uh they were like no we don't and so so uh so nonetheless that's uh that's that so that so this is the summer of CCNA halfpoint lab

[18:06] the challenge is can we configure live on real gear all the topics that we've talked about up to this point in CCNA I think we can so I thought I'd make it a

[18:18] game uh so the rules of the game is first off this will be a configuration focus you got I mean we have literally been live every day, meaning Chuck, uh, Zach, occasionally Micah will join us, um, since May the 4th. Very memorable

[18:35] stay live with you every single day talking about topics. Um, and so this one we are going to have a configuration focus, meaning I'm going to give a light

[18:47] description of each concept. Um, and all that's all that's going to be permitted because you guys know at this point you get me going and I will be like and then this and then this. And so I have given Zach squirrel power. Uh, so if Zach's so

[19:02] the rule of the game is &gt;&gt; pulls up the squirrel at any given moment, we're done and we're gonna go, okay, let's move on because we will not finish this lab if uh if we don't if we don't stay focused. Okay, we will stop

[20:58] of it. All the cables. I've got a console connection because we're going to be using that. I've got power. So, let's let's look at the uh the lab as it begins. We'll come back to the diagram in just a second. So, we're going to

[21:11] start off with the console factory default and physical cabling. So, you just bought a glut of gray market Cisco gear off eBay, which by the way, some people say, "Is that illegal?" Actually, it is. Um it it is to use in a

[21:25] production network. Many people don't know that uh because Cisco's iOS is copyright and it is non-transferable. So, so when you buy eBay equipment and throw it in a production network, technically you are breaking the law. Um

[21:39] but not at home. Uh because it's it's a lab, it's non-production, right? So, uh we bought it for our cafe illegally. Uh we So, so erase the configuration on all three devices and cable it to the previous network diagram. So, I'm going

[21:53] to keep this up here because it's got all the ports that are labeled. And the first thing I'm going to do is we got to get a console connection uh set up. So, uh this is where it's going to get interesting. There's my computer. I'm

[35:15] on networks or hosts? If they tell you how many hosts do it on hosts because it says at least three subnets. It's kind of like you need that for the VLANs but if you have less than 50 hosts you've missed the requirements. So figure it

[35:27] based on that. So, let's subnet. I'm going to grab my pen. going to grab my pen. Oh, shoot. Um, when I when when I hit the power button of my computer, it rebooted to where my pen driver is uh is

[36:24] So no, no, yes. soon as we find where our first one goes uh as we're subtracting it when we're converting from decimal to binary. We know I mean you can figure out the rest but we know that 50 is actually uh six bits.

[36:39] I can't get the number 50 with any less than six bits. So step two is we take our original subnet mask which is a slash24 a class C subnet mask which is 24 ones a whole bunch of ones dot dot dot dot dot dot one two three four five

[36:55] six seven eight zeros the host bits uh don't make the mistake Bob did. Um so so now we have to ask the question are we creating more networks or are we saving the hosts? We saw right there 50 hosts. So, we're

[37:10] We saw right there 50 hosts. So, we're going to save one, two, three, four, five, six because we can't get the number 50. We can't get 50 hosts with any less than than six bits. So, the other two can flip over to the network

[37:23] side. And now we know our subnet mask actually just went two more to a slash26 actually just went two more to a slash26 or in decimal that'd be 255.255.255 255 dot and then if you convert those last

[37:37] two that'd be 128 plus 64 that would be 192 192. So that's your subnet mask. That's our subnet mask that we will use everywhere in this network. Right? So

[37:50] now the most crucial step is step three finding our network ranges. Uh we were given 1 192.168.1

[38:03] I use one so often. Uh 10.0. So now we just start adding our in Oh, I'm moving just start adding our in Oh, I'm moving too fast. Our increment we got start is. That is the lowest network bit converted back to a decimal number.

[38:17] converted back to a decimal number. That's 64, right? 64. So now we start That's 64, right? 64. So now we start adding our increment. 64 128 192 and then the last one is 256 if we keep adding 64 every single time and you

[38:32] fill in your end ranges uh 192168 10.0 through 63 through 127 through 191 through 63 through 127 through 191 and through 255 you actually it said at

[38:44] least three subnets and we got four one two three four uh that are all set up and ready to assign. So this could be our network one. Uh this is two, three, and I guess we'll have a bonus of network four. We can see easily just by

[39:00] glancing at it that every one of those get at least uh 50 hosts. So we've done we've done the network design uh for this. I'm going to bring this back over

[39:12] here to the instructions. There we go. Uh, so we've now broken that up and I'm I'm going to save that in the background. I've I've got it right here because we will start using those uh and assigning

[50:15] Just choose however many ports you expect to use all at the same time. Remembering each Tnet session or SSH session to the device consumes one of those. So if you never plan on having more than five administrators, which I

[50:28] would never plan to have more than one or two uh accessing that device at a time, then don't there's no there's no need to light up these other ports to accept those. But if you're in a large network where you have either either AI

[50:41] network where you have either either AI devices or AI administration or you know are accessing devices all the time, you might need more ports. Um so that's why those are there. &gt;&gt; Any other questions?

[1:03:10] VLANs and IP address management. So it says set up and name the VLANs on the two switches, excuse me, and set up a router on a stick configuration to route between all three VLANs. Assign the router the first IP address from each

[1:03:24] subnet. All right, we can do that. So again, I'm going to come back to this diagram. So we have three VLANs, VLAN 10, 20, and 30. Management, administration, and public. Those are our three VLANs, right, that

[1:03:38] we're using for this network. We're going to create those on both switches first and then we're going to set up the router as a router on a stick. Let's go. router as a router on a stick. Let's go. I'm going to go into uh uh yeah, let's

[1:03:52] do the switches first. Move my console cable over. I'm going to start off on switch one. Oh, the handicap Lego guy just took a

[1:04:31] 20. Name admin. It's all &gt;&gt; VLAN 30. So many memes coming from this uh uh this course. Name public. Good. I'm out. Show uh show VLAN. So I've got all of these uh ports still in uh the

[1:04:49] default VLAN. Uh but the VLANs are actually created. And so now while I'm here, I said I'm I need to turn on trunk ports. So I'm on switch number one. Fast Ethernet 01 2 and 24 because that's the one going to

[1:05:05] the router on a stick will be a trunk. So let's do that. I'll go into interface range fast ethernet01 through2 switchport mode trunk.

[1:05:18] lab it says configure trunk ports between the switches the WAP and to the router on a stick. Allow only the three VLANs specified for the cafe. Set VLAN

[1:05:31] 10 as the native VLAN for the trunk ports. I'm telling you, this is this is hot and heavy stuff. This is all of the config in one place. We've talked about all this stuff. The WAP only gets VLAN 30 because that's public Wi-Fi and the

[1:05:44] VLAN 10 native. So, we can manage the WAP. All right, that's that's a mouthful right there. So, I'm going to do I did switchport mode trunk. I'll do switchport mode trunk. I'll do switchport trunk uh allowed VLAN and

[1:05:56] switchport trunk uh allowed VLAN and we'll say 10 20 30 enter. Oh, switchport we'll say 10 20 30 enter. Oh, switchport trunk native VLAN 10. Let's just do a quick show run interface. Fast Ethernet. Oh, look at

[1:06:11] interface. Fast Ethernet. Oh, look at that action. Fast Ethernet 01. So, configuration on this switch. And I'm going to show you some of the errors we going to show you some of the errors we just got. Uh it says uh native VLAN 10.

[1:06:23] The only VLANs allowed are 10 2030. So one is effectively dead. And it is a trunk. Now you can see right up front it's like, "Oh, I just got an a a BPDU. There's our spanning tree. Inconsistent VLAN ID. We're getting native VLAN

[1:06:38] mismatch. Why? Well, because I've set up switch number one and I'm changing everything over, but switch number two hasn't been configured yet. Uh don't worry. And by the way, best practice is you actually shut down these ports while

[1:06:52] Otherwise, then you you don't have to worry about all these error messages coming. So, we've got those two, but I can't forget about this guy over here. can't forget about this guy over here. Fastenet 024, right? So, interface

[1:07:05] fastet 024. This is to our router on a stick. Switchport mode trunk. Switchport stick. Switchport mode trunk. Switchport trunk allowed. VLAN 10 2030.

[1:07:17] And that's good. Um, I'm leaving the native VLAN off specifically and I'm router on a stick. This is this is a something you'll you'll want to catch. So, I'm going to do a show interface

[1:07:30] trunk uh trunk. There we go. And there we go. We've got our our two interfaces right now that are showing trunks. It hasn't now that are showing trunks. It hasn't brought up the trunk on the uh router

[1:08:25] came out with VLANs before anybody else did and they created their own proprietary trunking protocol called ISL, right? Well, eventually the industry caught up and they created the industry standard 802.1Q.

[1:08:39] 802.1Q. Yes. Yes. Um, that's the industry. So it's.11Q um is the um uh industry standard one. And so on newer switches like these 2960s you see in the

[1:08:52] little thumbnail uh to the to the left here. These guys do not support uh ISL command completely. Matter of fact, I'll show you. Um uh flip back to the config.

[1:09:05] I'm now logging in. Do not log in ever. We've got it. Um we've got passwords. It's good. All right. So, I'm going to go in uh I'll do uh VLAN 10 name

[1:09:17] management, VLAN 20, name admin, VLAN 30, name public. Exit back out. And now we can get rid of

[1:12:08] know, free Wi-Fi maps to VLAN 30, uh, which is our public network. And we can have a separate uh VLAN and a separate set of security for the public Wi-Fi. Uh whereas you know you can have SSID you know cafe uh

[1:12:26] which is just for the employees mapped to VLAN 20 and that's cool but that's why we need to have a trunk port on that fast Ethernet zero3. Uh so oh man I am so running out of time and

[1:18:17] with your professor because that's mean, but I disagree with your professor because when you're initially configuring your device, um you're going to do all kinds of stuff that if you're accessing it remotely, you end up

[1:18:30] like uh then you got to go back there and play like when you're in the initial setup, uh you're doing a lot of stuff that that will break your configuration and break your connectivity. Um, so I

[1:18:42] like staying on the console port until I'm ready to go install it into a rack. Then I manage it remotely and then I'm very careful about the commands I type in because I don't want to lose connection once it's remote. Um, good.

[1:20:30] to get fired. A lot of people forget to do that. So once you've got so when you trunk allowed V let's say I added VLAN 40 right and I hit the enter key right here it actually removes the previous um VLANs that were on there 1020 and 30 and

[1:20:46] just puts VLAN 40 it's devastating because it takes down the whole network because you just lost your VLANs from the trunk. Uh it replaces them with the trunk. Uh it replaces them with this. So the command add 40 keeps the

[1:20:58] ones that are there and adds 40 to the list. It's such a common mistake and that have been caused by that, but they are severe because usually if you make an accident and you and you uh make an accident, what's that even? You you uh

[1:21:13] accidentally type in 40 and hit the enter key, you lose all your VLANs, to the switch. That's where you're running them with a laptop and a console cable like, "Ah, what have I done?" Um, so add 40 keeps the ones that are there

[1:21:27] and adds 40 to the list. without the ad 40 uh it 40 just replaces the list of what's there. So that's a that's a big point. So so the answer is when I was initially configuring it no I didn't need the ad because I was literally

[1:21:43] saying those are the three allowed Vans and that's it. So, it works out. Um, okay. So, we've got Oh, I didn't do the dead VLAN. we've got Oh, I didn't do the dead VLAN. Dead VLAN global config mode. VLAN 999

[1:21:59] Dead VLAN global config mode. VLAN 999 name dead. This is the uh view. Uh, so we'll exit out of this. We'll do a show uh show ip interface brief, which works just fine on a switch. I'm going to say

[1:47:32] inside local outside global outside that we had a whole lesson on that as part of we had a whole lesson on that as part of the summer as CCNA. Uh but this verifies the summer as CCNA. Uh but this verifies that our NAT is working well and Rico is

[1:48:38] world do you connect switches interface 01 to 01 02 to 02 03 to 03 or do we connect them in a lab uh to make it easier to think it through to think &gt;&gt; in the real world you try to connect them that way. It it it does make it a

[1:48:54] lot easier to say okay one is the one two is the two. it makes it a lot easier. But sometimes just because of how things play out. Like you might have one core switch and you know the first switch that connects to it gets the one

[1:49:07] one is like okay now I've got three and four and I don't want to have three and four going to you know so you end up having one and two go to three and four and then one and two of the next one go to five and six and and so on and so

[1:49:19] forth. So it doesn't always line up that way but when it does it's it's really nice and people try to. &gt;&gt; Okay. And this one is I'm just gonna let this be representative of a lot of the different questions that I saw out here.

[1:49:32] Um I'll skip over the rest, but it keeps on coming up. [laughter] &gt;&gt; I mean, I can't I can't deny it. There's uh five or six of them. Uh please do CCMP. That would be amazing.

[1:49:46] &gt;&gt; I've seen I've seen the request. I would I would love to. Um I would let me just say I would love to uh I need to I need to see how we can fit that in the schedule. Um it would be awesome but that's that's three separate courses. Um

[1:50:01] so it's think of it like three CCNAs. So to take on CCNP it's a lot. It's it's a big uh big load. &gt;&gt; Okay. And then this one was uh at the same time as when you were shutting down um the VLAN one. Why not shut down the

[1:50:16] VLAN as well as if you're shutting down the the SVI? &gt;&gt; Um, so you technically you can't shut down VLANs. You can delete them. down VLANs. You can delete them. &gt;&gt; Um, but with VLAN one, you effectively

[1:50:29] shut it down when you remove all the ports out of it. So when a VLAN has no ports left, it's considered shut down uh or disabled. Um, but uh as soon as you add a port in, it comes back online. So, um, SVIS you can shut down like

[1:50:44] interface VLAN one. You can type in no shutdown or shutdown under that. because this is the first time that this person has attended. It was a fantastic [laughter] &gt;&gt; Thank you. Uh, yeah, I I appreciate
