Making Sense of Evangelion

[00:02] with a confusing timeline that still has

[00:04] fans theorizing about just what actually

[00:06] happened which meant to make this video

[00:08] I had to fully dive into the lore of the

[00:10] series I had to make sense of it all not

[00:12] just for me personally but for anyone

[00:14] who wants to know just what the hell was

[00:16] happening on this beach or why there's

[00:18] three endings that are all

[00:19] simultaneously cannoned but so very

[00:21] opposite the goal of this video is to

[00:23] give you the most in-depth detailed

[00:25] explanation of what happened in even

[00:27] gilion that is available this means

[00:28] analyzing the TV series along with all

[00:31] five films that make up this masterpiece

[00:33] of a story that extends past the anime

[00:35] and bleeds into the real world this will

[00:37] be long but I promise you it'll be worth

[00:40] it the amount of lessons I took away

[00:41] from this show is unmeasurable and I

[00:43] know that's what every even gelan fan

[00:45] stereotypically says but there's truth

[00:47] to it I wasn't one until a couple weeks

[00:49] ago and now I can say this is a series

[00:51] every anime fan should watch so whether

[00:54] you've seen the show and want a deep

[00:56] understanding of its events or are a

[00:58] complete newbie and just want to skip

[00:59] the [ __ ] and find out what this

[01:01] Show's all about this video is for you

[01:04] before getting into the story it's final

[01:06] that you understand the scope of the

[01:08] series there's technically three endings

[01:10] but as I'll get into later they really

[01:12] all make up one cohesive story watching

[01:14] just one doesn't give you the full

[01:16] picture the first ending is in the 26th

[01:18] episode run of even gelion and it's

[01:20] considered the most ambiguous of the lot

[01:22] the second comes in the end of even

[01:23] gellan movie which was released a year

[01:25] after the series ended and contains

[01:27] events vital to the entirety of the show

[01:30] you cannot skip this the final ending

[01:32] comes in the rebuild movie series and to

[01:34] clear any confusion no it's not a reboot

[01:37] it's a series of four movies that in the

[01:39] beginning very lightly follow the events

[01:41] of the original anime before entirely

[01:43] steering off course it has drastically

[01:45] different plot points mood and focus

[01:48] these movies are a sequel to the

[01:49] original they are by no means a

[01:51] replacement remember that now that all

[01:53] that's cleared up let's start at the

[01:54] beginning not of the series now but

[01:56] where the story really

[01:58] begins in the beginning there was the

[02:01] first ancestrial race or far a group of

[02:04] intelligent life that inhabited an

[02:06] unknown World in our galaxy at some

[02:08] point the species faced certain

[02:09] Extinction and in an attempt to preserve

[02:12] life in the universe sent out moons

[02:14] containing seeds of life that would

[02:16] hopefully find new worlds to inhabit

[02:18] each Moon also contained a spear that

[02:20] function was to safeguard the far's

[02:22] plans to spread life it's assume they

[02:24] sent out a vast amount of moons one of

[02:26] these landing on Earth the white moon

[02:28] this Moon contained a seat of life known

[02:30] as Adam the fruit of life now Adam was

[02:32] supposed to populate the Earth with life

[02:34] but before he could another far Moon the

[02:37] black moon smashed into Earth launching

[02:39] thousands of pieces of debris into space

[02:41] creating the moon we see in the sky this

[02:43] event resulted in great changes in the

[02:45] Earth's surface and would later be given

[02:47] the title the first impact but this was

[02:49] never supposed to happen Two Moons were

[02:51] never intended to inhabit One Planet it

[02:53] was only by freak accident that the

[02:55] black moon would crash into Earth two

[02:57] life forms being created on the same

[02:59] Planet could results in the extinction

[03:00] of one through unnecessary violence

[03:03] which is counterproductive the far's

[03:05] goal of preserving life and this is

[03:06] exactly what the spears are for despite

[03:09] Adam's Moon being the first to land the

[03:11] black moon containing Lilith the fruit

[03:13] of knowledge was given priority on Earth

[03:15] most likely due to Lila spear being

[03:18] destroyed during the first impact Adam's

[03:20] spear linous would lock his ability to

[03:22] spread life thus Earth became Lil's

[03:24] domain and human life was seated

[03:27] billions of years pass as Humanity

[03:29] developed as such does their lust for

[03:31] knowledge eventually a religious

[03:33] organization known as seal whose sole

[03:35] goal is to fill the prophecy that lies

[03:37] in the Dead Sea Scrolls discovers the

[03:39] black moon in Lilith along with it

[03:41] underneath hakone Japan they build an

[03:43] underground facility around this Moon

[03:45] and launch a research division Nam gon

[03:47] to study it not too long after a

[03:49] discovery in Antarctica uncovers the

[03:52] white moon containing Adam in 2000 seal

[03:54] funds a team of scientists to study the

[03:56] beam led by a man named katsuragi misato

[03:59] father after Excavating Adam the team

[04:01] attempts a contact experiment where they

[04:03] would merge human DNA with Adam not

[04:06] quite the best idea as you would imagine

[04:07] prior to the experiment the team removed

[04:09] Adam's Spear and upon attempting the DNA

[04:12] merge reawakened it creating catalyic

[04:14] results Adam activated an anti-at field

[04:17] which is basically an EMP that affects

[04:20] humans all life forms have an invisible

[04:22] barrier around them that is their ego

[04:24] and if touched by this anti-at field

[04:26] their soul will be freed from their body

[04:28] seemingly ending their life as as a

[04:29] human so if this thing goes Supernova

[04:31] and engulfs the entire planet all life

[04:34] will cease to exist simultaneously Adam

[04:37] opens the doors of Guff which allows

[04:39] unborn souls to be brought into life

[04:41] this was all rather short-lived as the

[04:43] scientists attempted to stop this Global

[04:45] Extinction using the Spear of leness

[04:47] impaling Adam stopped his Field's

[04:49] expansion and closed the passage of Guff

[04:51] but the reset resulted in a massive

[04:53] explosion of Adam's energy manifesting

[04:55] four giant wings of light into the sky

[04:58] the entire continent of Antarctica

[05:00] perish the scientist along with it but

[05:02] not before katsuragi saves his daughter

[05:05] the massive explosion tips Earth's

[05:07] access causing the polar caps to melt

[05:09] and major weather changes to occur

[05:11] killing billions fighting breaks out

[05:13] worldwide as more and more die and after

[05:16] a year of global war only half the

[05:18] world's population Remain the UN becomes

[05:20] a major world order as only a few nation

[05:23] states still exist but during this

[05:25] period of desperation seal works in the

[05:27] shadows to secure power global by 2003

[05:30] seal controls the UN and the major

[05:33] Nations they used this influence to have

[05:35] a research team from gon retriev two

[05:37] pieces of Adam that were separated in

[05:39] the second impact one was his body which

[05:42] had regressed into an embryotic State

[05:44] the other was Adam's Soul which took the

[05:46] form of a boy that would eventually

[05:47] become known as koru Nagisa the child

[05:50] was transported to seal headquarters

[05:52] where various studies and uses would be

[05:53] made of him but the more prominent

[05:55] aspect currently is the use of Adam's

[05:57] Body which was used to create project e

[06:00] the operation that led to the creation

[06:02] of the even gelian soulless copies of

[06:05] Adam gon is tasked by Seal to develop

[06:07] project e along with Maggie's

[06:09] supercomputers their other area of

[06:11] expertise eventually Koo fuuki this old

[06:14] guy you know would be invited to join

[06:17] the org by gendo and yui shinji's

[06:19] parents Koo was originally the teacher

[06:21] of the two in college and is very

[06:24] suspect of gendo and his involvement in

[06:26] the second impact for context he left

[06:28] the expedition one day before the event

[06:30] as time passed gon made huge

[06:33] advancements in both the even gallons

[06:35] and Maggie supercomputers but the

[06:37] success came with a cost UI attempted a

[06:39] contact experiment with Eva 01 leading

[06:42] to her body and soul being absorbed into

[06:44] the be's core similarly over at Branch 3

[06:47] in Germany Kyoko soyu asa's mom lost a

[06:50] portion of her soul when she came into

[06:52] contact with Eva 02 leading to her

[06:55] losing her sanity and eventually

[06:57] committing suicide scientist naoko AGI

[06:59] completed the Maggie supercomputer

[07:01] system 6 years after the incident with

[07:03] UI being absorbed into Eva 01 at

[07:05] completion she would be confronted by

[07:07] Ray or to put it better Ray one gindo

[07:10] had been experimenting in the lower

[07:12] levels with Lilith to create a clone of

[07:14] sorts of UI he used any genetic material

[07:17] he could find of his late wife to create

[07:19] the be binding The Vessel with the soul

[07:21] of Lilith to bring her to life not too

[07:23] much different from kodo's creation the

[07:25] major difference between the two was

[07:27] that Ray was very man-made and extremely

[07:29] emotionally unstable and this led her to

[07:31] taking advantage of akagi's feelings

[07:33] towards gendo tormenting her with the

[07:35] words he thinks of you as a hag the idea

[07:38] of being called worthless by the man she

[07:39] loved enraged her and refusing to accept

[07:42] the cheap standin of his dead wife as a

[07:44] human being she killed the little girl

[07:46] realizing what she had just done akagi

[07:48] commits suicide jumping off the balcony

[07:51] onto her final creation upon discovering

[07:53] the scene gendo gives Ray a second body

[07:56] deemed Ray 2 the one we meet at the

[07:58] beginning of the series series after the

[08:00] suicide of aagi gedon was reconstructed

[08:02] into nerve with his main focus the

[08:04] furtherment of project e now the reason

[08:06] for this is due to Adam's doors of Guff

[08:09] being opened for a short amount of time

[08:11] during the second impact Souls of beings

[08:13] were able to creep out resulting in a

[08:15] new form of life becoming the main

[08:17] antagonist of the series The Angels just

[08:20] as lth created humans Adam created

[08:23] angels seal knew this day would

[08:25] inevitably happen as is stated in the

[08:27] Dead Sea Scrolls that seemingly outlay a

[08:29] majority of the events to come it's

[08:31] thought that this text comes from the

[08:33] first ancestral race how it got to Earth

[08:35] is a large mystery the seal organization

[08:38] bases their entire mission on what the

[08:40] Scrolls state it reads that the angels

[08:42] are the true successors of Earth and

[08:44] humanity is burdened by the original sin

[08:46] that being they never should have

[08:48] existed here we were a mistake only

[08:50] brought to life due to a series of

[08:52] circumstances unintentionally sentencing

[08:55] Adam's life forms to non-existence

[08:57] Seal's end game is to unite all Humanity

[09:00] as one with Lilith and Adam so they can

[09:03] become part of God what they see as the

[09:05] next evolution of existence this goal is

[09:08] deemed the human instrumentality Project

[09:10] Seal believes the plan will only work

[09:12] though if certain conditions are met the

[09:14] defeat of all Angels being one similarly

[09:16] gendo's goal is to activate human

[09:18] instrumentality but his endgame is to

[09:20] reunite with his wife also

[09:22] unintentionally fulfilling her goal

[09:24] which was to temporarily activate human

[09:26] instrumentality so that people could

[09:28] unite as one to understand each other

[09:30] then revert back to individuality it's

[09:32] obvious though that gendo's one care in

[09:34] mind is reuniting with his wife he cares

[09:36] nothing about his son or Humanity or

[09:39] what it would take for him to reach this

[09:40] goal he's not interested in what his

[09:42] wife planned out he's just a Broken Man

[09:44] afraid of human connection Desperately

[09:46] Seeking the only person he grew close to

[09:48] this results in Shinji being cast aside

[09:51] growing up feeling unwanted by his

[09:53] father he goes to live with the school

[09:54] teacher after leaving home where his

[09:56] father treated him as a waste of space

[09:58] after his mother died showing him no

[10:00] love or affection which would eventually

[10:02] lead to shinji's massive issues with

[10:05] intimacy and attachment something his

[10:07] dad had closed himself off to as well a

[10:09] few years pass as genda works with Le on

[10:11] Eva 00 a prototype Eva imbued with a

[10:13] piece of Ray Soul weeks before the first

[10:15] Angel attacks Ray is injured during the

[10:18] first attempts to Pilot Eva zero when it

[10:20] leads to a going berserk it is assumed

[10:22] that the piece of Soul inside 0000 is

[10:24] Ray Juan the one that was strangled by

[10:26] aagi it lashes out smashing the walls

[10:29] confused afraid and possibly angry

[10:31] reawaken to the pain prior to death in a

[10:33] strange world and a strange body gendo

[10:36] rescues Ray to from the pilot pod after

[10:38] the Eva loses power but she is badly

[10:40] injured knowing that the angels will

[10:42] soon come as prophesized in the Scrolls

[10:44] he knows they need a pilot but there are

[10:46] conditions to be met an even gelan pilot

[10:48] must be able to sink with the Eva to do

[10:50] this they must have some connection with

[10:52] the being more specifically the soul

[10:54] that is imbued into it as to sync with

[10:56] each other their souls must communicate

[10:58] properly this means that the perfect

[11:00] pilot for Eva 01 that holds ui's Soul

[11:02] would be her son Shinji so gendo

[11:04] contacts his son to come the nerve HQ

[11:07] Days Later sasil appears the third Angel

[11:10] firstborn of Adam he moves from the

[11:11] shores of Tokyo 3 a metropolis built

[11:14] around nerve headquarters he symbolizes

[11:17] the price of playing God something nerve

[11:19] and seal do as often as we drink water

[11:21] the military stands no chance against

[11:23] this monstrosity and command of this

[11:25] operation is quickly handed over to

[11:27] nerve which brings us to the first the

[11:29] vents of Neon Genesis

[11:31] Evangelion the Neon Genesis TV series is

[11:34] very sporadic with its storytelling lots

[11:36] of things are told out of order which is

[11:38] why the section prior to this one is so

[11:40] important in telling the entire story of

[11:42] Evangelion to know the order of events

[11:44] gives a better understanding of the

[11:46] narrative so with that in mind the

[11:48] events ahead will be placed in order of

[11:49] occurrence not necessarily by first

[11:51] appearance I divided the section of Neon

[11:53] Genesis down marking the appearances of

[11:55] angels major events as well as deep

[11:58] looks at the main characters feel free

[12:00] to use the chapter markers as a guide

[12:02] through this deep

[12:04] analysis Shinji wanders tokyo3 as he

[12:07] waits to meet misato his Handler this is

[12:10] during the offensive against Cil the

[12:12] third Angel fortunately for him she

[12:14] arrives just in time to prevent him from

[12:16] being turned into a pancake the UN

[12:17] attempts one final ditch of effort

[12:19] before Nerf takes full control and drops

[12:21] the equivalent of a nuclear bomb on the

[12:23] third Angel this is an unsuccessful

[12:25] attack and proves that the only hope for

[12:27] Humanity's survival is in the even

[12:29] gallion and equally in their pilots when

[12:32] Shinji gets to the nerve base he is

[12:33] immediately thrusted into the job of

[12:35] being a pilot initially he refuses as he

[12:38] hasn't seen one of these before now and

[12:39] barely got through half the manual given

[12:41] to him on the elevator Shinji asks his

[12:43] father who stands looming over the

[12:45] platform why he called for him most

[12:47] likely hoping that his father would show

[12:48] some kind of acknowledgement to his son

[12:50] gendo simply states he had a use for him

[12:52] but if he refuses the pilot then he

[12:54] should just leave immediately not being

[12:56] the words he had hoped to hear Shinji

[12:57] looks down at his feet wallowing the

[12:59] base Shakes as the angel has located

[13:01] their position from above and Rubble

[13:03] falls from the ceilings as it makes an

[13:05] attempt to infiltrate the underground

[13:06] nerve base Eva 01 reaches out in an act

[13:09] to protect Shinji from the debris our

[13:11] first hint that there is a strange

[13:13] connection that lies between the two he

[13:15] finally agrees to Pilot it partially out

[13:17] of desperation to be acknowledged as

[13:19] meaningful partially because of the

[13:20] safety he now feels with the Mech but

[13:22] also because he sees a badly injured Ray

[13:25] in front of him who will pilot it in his

[13:26] dead if he refuses knowing that if he

[13:29] walks away this girl would potentially

[13:31] die already suffering from major

[13:33] injuries it seems the only path forward

[13:35] for him is to

[13:38] comply being his first time in an Eva it

[13:41] would be no surprise if a pilot with

[13:43] zero experience would get their ass

[13:45] whooped by a promodal beast and this is

[13:47] exactly what happens Shinji gets stomped

[13:49] on tossed around like a doll and speared

[13:52] straight into the skull causing

[13:53] agonizing pain through shinji's own head

[13:56] the reason being the potty sits in is

[13:57] full of LCL fluid LCL comes from Lilith

[14:01] Humanity's Creator and is the same stuff

[14:03] humans are made up of although Shinji

[14:05] doesn't know that this fluid takes place

[14:07] of oxygen and allows the pilots to

[14:08] become in deeper sync with the Evas

[14:10] assisting in merging part of their souls

[14:12] for a period of time so since they're

[14:14] intertwined when the Eva takes damage

[14:16] the pilot will mentally feel the damage

[14:18] too shinji's comms are cut off as his

[14:20] Eva attains major damage and the last

[14:22] thing that can be heard are his fearful

[14:23] screams as Shinji loses control of

[14:26] himself the Eva goes berserk shedding

[14:28] pieces of it armor unveiling teeth

[14:30] underneath it jumps on ceil and rips him

[14:32] apart brutally spearing its core with a

[14:34] shattered rib sensing the certain death

[14:37] faced in this situation Cecil initiates

[14:39] a self-destruct hoping to take the

[14:41] monster before him with it but through

[14:42] the haze of ash from the explosion the

[14:45] Eva walks unscathed by the Angel's final

[14:48] attack gendo watches unsurprised by this

[14:50] development as if he knew this would

[14:52] happen and is precisely why he wanted

[14:54] Shinji to Pilot once Shinji wakes up

[14:56] from his partial coma he has absolutely

[14:58] no no memory of the evag going berserk

[15:00] when questioned about it most members of

[15:02] nerve are perplexed by this situation

[15:04] while a few remain in the no primarily

[15:06] gendo Ritu and Koo not wanting him to

[15:09] live alone misant decides to take Shinji

[15:11] as her roommate while it's a little

[15:13] vague at first it's hinted that this is

[15:15] out of a maternal Instinct but another

[15:16] way to take it is also pity she sees the

[15:18] lifelessness he projects and knows that

[15:20] piloting the Eva isn't necessarily going

[15:23] to make that any better and she feels

[15:25] partially at fault for that pushing her

[15:26] to take the boy under her wing

[15:30] it takes a while for Shinji to adapt to

[15:32] the life he lives now which is to no

[15:33] surprise it's painfully obvious that he

[15:36] suffers from extreme depression and

[15:38] holds deep rooted attachment and

[15:39] intimacy issues due to his father's

[15:41] neglect of him he hates his father but

[15:43] he also desperately wants his father's

[15:45] affection which makes him hate himself

[15:47] as well for needing it Shinji also

[15:48] thinks of himself as a coward and a

[15:50] waste of space he has begun to wall

[15:52] himself off emotionally from the others

[15:54] as he internally thinks that they will

[15:56] betray him as his father did before he

[15:58] doesn't help that his beliefs get real

[16:00] world support after a boy at school toi

[16:03] beats him up toi blames Shinji for his

[16:06] sister's injuries that were caused by

[16:08] the fighting between Eva 01 and sasil

[16:10] this sends him into a deeper state of

[16:12] depression when receiving a comment of

[16:13] the good he does as a pilot from misato

[16:15] shinji's response is that he doesn't

[16:17] feel like the good he does can be

[16:19] considered so why would his schoolmate

[16:21] beat him then this quote and one said by

[16:23] ritzo helps us understand exactly where

[16:25] Shinji stands immedately Pilots the Eva

[16:28] as it's his only existing purpose doing

[16:31] so makes things easier even if he walks

[16:33] away he'll be constantly monitored by

[16:35] nerve's secret service and he will never

[16:37] truly Escape his father's overcasting

[16:39] shadow of disappointment but if he stays

[16:42] he may just get some praise out of it

[16:44] one of his inner desires he doesn't put

[16:46] much weight on the morality of what

[16:48] nerve does at this point just does what

[16:49] he's told and that he

[16:57] does

[17:00] the fourth Angel sham shell arrives

[17:03] following in his predecessor's footsteps

[17:05] seemingly trying to enter nerve HQ why

[17:07] the Angels attempt this is uncertain but

[17:09] it's made apparent later that every

[17:11] Angel has different goals in mind some

[17:13] may instinctively fight their enemy

[17:15] neres some may want to make contact with

[17:17] Lilith and begin the third impact some

[17:19] attempt to retrieve Adam's embryo some

[17:21] try to understand Humanity itself

[17:23] whichever one doesn't really matter to

[17:25] Shinji whose sole order is the same as

[17:27] ever kill the Angel normally during

[17:29] Angel encounters the local population

[17:31] has moved to bunkers to avoid casualties

[17:34] but shinji's classmates toi and kensuke

[17:36] beside today they won't be doing that as

[17:38] kensuke is adamant of seeing an Eva

[17:40] fight an angel the Skirmish spills right

[17:42] onto the hill the two are located on and

[17:44] Shinji is ordered to move them into his

[17:46] cockpit for their safety it's inside

[17:48] here the two realize that piloting and

[17:49] Eva isn't so much the sunshine and

[17:51] rainbows the two thought would be

[17:53] attached to the fame that comes with

[17:57] it

[18:00] Shinji is successful in killing sham

[18:02] shell with his body for the most part

[18:04] being intact Nerf takes the corpse in

[18:06] for research which would eventually lead

[18:08] to the recreation of the angels of

[18:10] limited power source es2

[18:13] drive it's been 3 days since the death

[18:15] of the fourth Angel and Shinji has been

[18:17] missing since he's pretty much skipped

[18:19] town riding a train to its last stop

[18:21] sulking the entire way he goes to a

[18:23] local movie theater where he catches a

[18:25] glimpse of a couple making out while

[18:26] before this Shinji was dead face this

[18:28] act of intimacy seemed to have stried a

[18:30] cord with the kid to put in perspective

[18:32] imagine when you were 14 and your own

[18:34] curiosity of sexual intimacy it's

[18:36] exactly what he's going through right

[18:37] now in the meantime isato doesn't try to

[18:39] locate Shinji she knows the pain and

[18:42] price that comes with piloting and has a

[18:43] stand in for a parental figure can't

[18:45] bring herself to drag Shinji back alas

[18:47] gendo doesn't think similar another few

[18:49] days pass as Shinji is escorted back by

[18:51] nerve security where he's faced with a

[18:53] decision does he continue being a pilot

[18:55] despite wanting to run away from it all

[18:57] and all his problems or does he stay and

[18:59] continue to face his fears misato

[19:01] confronts him only to say he should

[19:03] leave if it's what he wants which sets

[19:05] him off what Shinji wanted to hear was

[19:07] her nag him for running away for days

[19:09] tell him she was worried tell him to

[19:10] stay he wants to be wanted he wants to

[19:12] be cared about he wants somebody to

[19:14] acknowledge that his existence isn't a

[19:16] waste but he doesn't get that and

[19:18] decides to leave as Shinji is escorted

[19:21] to a train out of town toi and Kens find

[19:23] him the past week toi wanted to

[19:25] apologize to Shinji for punching him his

[19:27] own sister even now agging him for his

[19:29] actions and after they saw what he goes

[19:30] through he realized that Shinji doesn't

[19:32] sit on a high horse with his status

[19:34] after that the trio builds a closer

[19:36] relationship albeit a little too late

[19:38] Shinji calls out to them before being

[19:40] escorted to the train that he isn't

[19:41] worthy of the praise they give him calls

[19:43] himself a coward a sneak it shouldn't

[19:45] care for him but the two don't see it

[19:47] that

[19:50] way as Shinji waits for the train he

[19:53] goes through his experience so far and

[19:54] questions his choice to leave isato

[19:56] finds out about the news of his depart

[19:58] departure which sets things in

[19:59] perspective for her she never really

[20:01] wanted him to leave just for him to

[20:02] choose for himself regardless of how she

[20:04] may feel she races to the station to see

[20:06] him off but it seems she's too late the

[20:09] train has left as the train passes the

[20:11] station Shinji still stands in the same

[20:13] spot as before he arrived at the

[20:15] conclusion that running away from his

[20:17] problems is not the answer and toi

[20:19] coming to make amends with him are a

[20:20] primary reason he's able to stay they

[20:22] reached a hand out to him something he

[20:24] has rarely seen misato and Shinji lock

[20:26] eyes now knowing how the other feels if

[20:29] only a little for misato hearing Shinji

[20:31] pour his feelings in the cell to her for

[20:33] Shinji misato rushing to the train

[20:35] station their bond grows stronger

[39:34] killing the Eva all of them are hesitant

[39:36] to fight it both Ray and Asuka knowing

[39:38] toi is inside and Shinji ignorant to

[39:40] this fact but conscious of someone being

[39:42] inside Eva 02 is taken out before being

[39:44] able to react to 03s movements 00

[39:47] hesitates to shoot 03 which results in

[39:50] its arm getting infected gendo orders

[39:52] for the arm to be severed despite Ray

[39:53] still being sync to the Eva resulting in

[39:55] her feeling the the mental anguish of

[39:57] losing her arm with only Shinji Still

[39:59] Standing he is forced to engage the Eva

[40:02] despite being ordered to kill the

[49:26] standoff until they can understand the

[49:28] location of its core Armel makes the

[49:30] first move and Dives straight into the

[49:32] Eva attempting to fuse with Ray he

[1:02:11] doesn't mean he can't move forward she

[1:02:13] pleads with him to Pilot the Eva to end

[1:02:15] things and find out why it is he came

[1:02:16] back to nerve in the first place she

[1:02:18] gives him her necklace and kisses him a

[1:02:20] kiss pleading for Action is it also

[1:02:22] somewhat romantic that's heavily debated

[1:02:24] but what I am sure is that this kiss was

[1:02:26] a push from misato to get Shinji moving

[1:02:28] to shove him into a choice just like she

[1:02:30] shoves him into the elevator as Shinji

[1:02:32] ascends misato slumps onto the ground

[1:02:34] minutes left of life she calls out taji

[1:02:36] wondering if she did the right

[1:04:06] it shinji's psyche has reached full ego

[1:04:09] death he has lost every ounce of mental

[1:04:12] stability which marks the beginning of

[1:04:13] instrumentality The Binding of All Souls

[1:04:16] Ry has sensed this causing her to reject

[1:04:18] gendo and his wish to use her to merge

[1:04:20] with Lilith to see his wife UI once more

[1:04:22] she rejects being his puppet almost as

[1:04:24] if shinji's absolute Terror snapped her

[1:04:26] out of the cage gendo made in her mind

[1:04:28] she alone merges with Lilith taking the

[1:04:31] embryo of Adam from gendo and creating a

[1:04:33] Godlike being capable of granting a boy

[1:04:35] a wish she shares with in the skies

[1:04:37] above Shinji has been strung upon a

[1:04:39] cross by the mass produced Evas the

[1:04:41] original Spear of Linus being summoned

[1:04:44] by his extreme emotional response to

[1:04:46] asuka's mutilation the MP Evas create a

[1:04:48] vast anti-at field explosion in gulfing

[1:04:51] Japan with Ray returning back into l the

[1:04:54] body and soul becomes one once again

[1:04:56] Lilith takes Ray's form presenting

[1:04:58] itself to Shinji seeing her in front of

[1:05:00] him like the shattered Shinji ego

[1:05:02] leaving him barely anyone anymore the

[1:05:04] mass-produced Evas merge with Ray

[1:05:06] sprouting mini Evas all over in a

[1:05:08] horrific Series in attempts to Cal

[1:05:10] Shinji lilis Sprouts his second torso

[1:05:13] that of kodu the person Shinji holds

[1:05:15] dear the most with the connection of the

[1:05:17] fruits of life and knowledge in better

[1:05:19] terms both a pure soul of Lilith being

[1:05:21] Shinji and his mom and pure body of Adam

[1:05:24] that of the Eva the Spear of less merges

[1:05:26] with 01 and Shinji forming the Tree of

[1:05:29] Life the source of All Souls inside the

[1:05:31] tree Shinji is told by Lilith that the

[1:05:34] ray before him represents his heart his

[1:05:36] deepest desire to save Ray Lilith Ray

[1:05:38] speaks to him stating that the fate of

[1:05:40] humanity lies in his hands and he's once

[1:05:42] more

[1:05:47] asked now this is the point where the

[1:05:49] final two episodes of Neon Genesis and

[1:05:52] the movie merge into one the series

[1:05:53] ending takes a much more internal deep

[1:05:55] look into Shinji psyche with a more

[1:05:57] happy light-hearted last note the movie

[1:06:00] a more visual look at the ending with a

[1:06:01] much more serious and realistic final

[1:06:03] moment both exist simultaneously in

[1:06:06] terms of timeline but convey a very

[1:06:08] different tone we'll be combining both

[1:06:10] Shinji stands before Lilith who intends

[1:06:12] to understand shinji's intentions and

[1:06:14] help him understand what those are as

[1:06:16] well he's faced with misato Ray and

[1:06:18] Asuka three of the most important people

[1:06:20] in his life with their bodies gone they

[1:06:22] see all of each other for better and For

[1:06:24] Worse Shinji is disgusted by misato's

[1:06:27] lust for sexual pleasures that she uses

[1:06:29] to distract her from herself Asuka

[1:06:31] berates Shinji for jerking off to her

[1:06:33] telling him to stay clear of her at the

[1:06:35] same time though expressing feelings of

[1:06:36] want for him and yet saying he'll never

[1:06:39] understand her Shinji interjects saying

[1:06:41] he tries but she never talks to him or

[1:06:43] opens up Ray only intervenes to call out

[1:06:45] shinji's lies asking him if he has ever

[1:06:47] really tried to understand them in

[1:06:49] response he throws a fit like a child

[1:06:51] asking for attention for them to look at

[1:06:53] him and to be nice to him he singles out

[1:06:55] Asuka and tells her that he loves her

[1:06:57] but she harshly rejects him pushing him

[1:06:59] to the ground telling him he's never

[1:07:00] loved himself that anyone will do

[1:07:03] anybody to fill the void in his heart he

[1:07:04] pleads to her to save him to help him

[1:07:07] but she stands above him giving him a

[1:07:09] flat

[1:07:15] no Shinji strangling the girl he loves

[1:07:19] signifies his futility with Humanity

[1:07:21] he's given up on it and everyone should

[1:07:22] just die he feels betrayed unwanted as

[1:07:25] he wishes to never exist Ray or Lilith

[1:07:28] questions him countering every word from

[1:07:30] his mouth if nobody cares about you what

[1:07:32] is your hand for to reach others as

[1:07:34] you've done before if nobody cares if

[1:07:36] you exist what is your heart for to

[1:07:38] reach out to another as you've done

[1:07:39] before if it'd be better if you never

[1:07:41] existed then why would you be here to

[1:07:43] begin with he reaches out to the void

[1:07:44] and asks if it's okay for him to be here

[1:07:47] but he's just meant was

[1:07:52] silence it's been decided that all

[1:07:54] Humanity will perish as Shinji rejects

[1:07:56] individuality he's failed to reach inner

[1:08:02] therefore he cannot hope to understand

[1:08:05] issues so certain that nobody

[1:08:07] understands what he's going through all

[1:08:08] humans transform to their original form

[1:08:10] LCL basically Lilith juice their souls

[1:08:13] return to the black moon that delivered

[1:08:15] Lilith to Earth as the deity watches

[1:08:17] over the process before everyone appears

[1:08:20] the person they treasure most to escort

[1:08:24] other hand meets a different fate yui

[1:08:26] appears before him asking him why he was

[1:08:28] so afraid of Shinji he responds saying

[1:08:30] that he believed nobody could love him

[1:08:36] son face he believed that the closer he

[1:08:43] others so that he and the ones he loved

[1:08:45] could never be hurt ironically hurting

[1:08:47] them in the process regardless very

[1:10:01] rejection of instrumentality allowing a

[1:10:03] Gateway for souls to return to the world

[1:10:06] if they so choose Shinji lies on a near

[1:10:08] empty beach only populated by himself

[1:10:11] and Asuka at the time it seems they are

[1:10:13] the only two that have rejected

[1:10:28] shinji's distrust towards Asuka

[1:10:30] following the conversation he had with

[1:10:31] her during their confrontation of each

[1:10:36] reaches out her hand touching shinji's

[1:10:38] face showing pure affection towards him

[1:10:40] for the first time this snaps Shinji out

[1:10:42] of his action releasing her once more

[1:10:44] he's hurt the one he loves once more he

[1:10:47] cries realizing the room he still has to

[1:10:49] grow but to be human is to fail to be

[1:10:52] terrible and to learn from your mistakes

[1:10:54] and shortcomings to self-improve these

[1:10:56] two are human once more with all the

[1:10:58] good and the bad that come with it Asuka

[1:11:00] comments on shinji's instincts leaving

[1:11:02] the phrase disgusting as the final words

[1:11:04] uttered of the series one that's

[1:11:06] importance in the series is heavily

[1:11:08] debated what do they mean I think it's

[1:11:10] rather simple enough faced with their

[1:11:11] own flaws and faults once more on a

[1:11:13] post-apocalyptic a beach Nothing Better

[1:11:15] Could describe

[1:11:19] it in simple terms even gellan is a

[1:11:22] story about man's struggle with God

[1:11:24] technology and Humanity's experience of

[1:11:26] both Joy and Pain human instrumentality

[1:11:28] was just man trying to banish loneliness

[1:11:30] and all their types of pain we experienc

[1:11:32] we struggled against ourselves to

[1:11:34] realize this goal some relying on God to

[1:11:36] guide their path others using Tech to

[1:11:38] forge their own both were used in

[1:11:40] immoral ways something that happens all

[1:11:42] too often in today's society when ano

[1:11:44] created even gelan he faced serious

[1:11:46] depression later finding success in

[1:11:48] understanding what he was going through

[1:11:50] from a friend's helping hand he said

[1:11:52] many times that this series was his way

[1:11:53] of expressing his inner feelings it was

[1:11:56] his Escape how he ran from his anxiety

[1:11:58] and fear something everyone does in

[1:11:59] Evangelion in their own ways this anime

[1:12:02] can be interpreted in hundreds of

[1:12:04] different ways there's a heavy Reliance

[1:12:05] on imagery and implicit storytelling

[1:12:07] hints and references the story Owen

[1:12:09] sprinkled throughout the series this

[1:12:11] video here is just my interpretation of

[1:12:13] Events maybe you think differently and

[1:12:15] that's okay but that's not to say we're

[1:12:17] done yet the rebuild movies are still a
