[00:00] if I'm honest I have a history of

[00:02] working myself a bit too hard and ending

[00:06] up burnt out and if you've ever

[00:07] experienced it especially if you are a

[00:10] content creator or entrepreneur then

[00:11] you'll know just how detrimental burnout

[00:14] is to your life your business and just

[00:18] your general well-being after hitting

[00:20] rock bottom with my mental health in the

[00:22] summer of 2021 I knew that I had to put

[00:24] some strategies and routines in place to

[00:27] help me prioritize my mental health over

[00:30] just my productivity which I had been

[00:32] doing and by the way today's video is

[00:34] sponsored by Riverside which is my

[00:36] favorite way to record podcasts online

[00:38] but we'll talk more about them later and

[00:40] lately I've been feeling myself creeping

[00:42] towards that feeling of burnout again I

[00:45] think it's a bit of a mid-year thing

[00:47] like I feel like I've been working so

[00:48] hard for the first half of 2023 and now

[00:51] we've kind of Hit the summer and it

[00:52] feels like it's the time to relax and

[00:54] I'm still feeling that guilt for like

[00:56] not continuing to hustle and push myself

[00:58] further so when I start to feel like

[01:00] that I know it's time to really lean

[01:02] into these anti-burn out routines and

[01:05] prioritize stuff outside of work and I

[01:08] thought you might be going through the

[01:09] same thing so today I want to take you

[01:11] through my day of strategies habits

[01:15] routines that I use to try to defocus

[01:18] from work to make sure I'm taking care

[01:20] of myself so that I don't get burnt out

[01:22] again and one of the best things you can

[01:24] do to prevent burnout is to Outsource

[01:26] the tasks that overwhelm you the most so

[01:29] for you if that's editing your videos

[01:30] creating your Instagram content or

[01:32] coming up with your social strategy my

[01:34] team at creatorly media would love to

[01:36] help you out but I'm going to talk more

[01:37] about that later on in the video for now

[01:38] let's rewind back to the morning and

[01:41] start off this day of an anti-burn out

[01:43] routine together

[01:44] [Music]

[01:47] foreign

[01:54] thing that I struggle with which I know

[01:56] contributes to my burnout sometimes is

[02:00] that I always sort of feel like I'm late

[02:03] or that I need to rush in the past a lot

[02:06] but even now sometimes if I'm honest

[02:08] with myself I feel really anxious if I

[02:10] wasn't starting work exactly at 9am or

[02:13] if I wasn't waking up at the time that I

[02:16] had planned to wake up and eventually I

[02:18] realized this was just adding

[02:19] unnecessary stress into my life because

[02:21] I don't really have a specific time I

[02:25] need to start my day at so especially

[02:27] when I start feeling burnout coming on I

[02:30] really try to focus on having slow

[02:32] mornings because when I rush I end up

[02:34] skipping the parts of my morning routine

[02:35] that really help me feel more balanced

[02:38] and those things include taking time to

[02:40] make a breakfast that makes me happy

[02:42] like I know it wouldn't be necessary to

[02:45] arrange my smoothie bowls in such a

[02:46] picturesque way but like it brings me

[02:48] joy and lately I've been making time to

[02:51] get outside and go for like a two and a

[02:53] half kilometer walk I hope someday

[02:56] eventually it becomes a run but for now

[02:58] it's just a walk so even though my

[03:00] morning routine is really not that

[03:02] complex or exciting it's really

[03:04] important to me to just like take my

[03:06] time to do that rather than just jumping

[03:08] directly into work because I find my

[03:11] mood for the whole day suffers if I do

[03:13] that so I try to read a book while I eat

[03:15] my breakfast I listen to my like Daily

[03:17] News podcast while I

[03:21] I listen to my favorite Daily News

[03:22] podcast while I go for my walk and I

[03:25] take time to pick out an outfit that I

[03:27] feel comfortable and confident in and I

[03:30] feel like all those steps make a huge

[03:31] difference in just setting me up to have

[03:34] a happier day and I think that's the

[03:36] thing about burnout prevention it's

[03:37] really all about thinking about how you

[03:39] can optimize your happiness because so

[03:41] many of us are so conditioned to just

[03:43] try to optimize our productivity but

[03:45] when you're dealing with burnout you

[03:48] need to prioritize your mental health

[03:49] and just finding joy in the little

[03:52] things I mean the secret of that all is

[03:55] that when you are happier and more

[03:57] balanced you'll be more productive but I

[03:59] feel like you can't start from thinking

[04:00] about it from a productivity perspective

[04:02] or else

[04:03] you'll probably just get yourself

[04:05] further into burnout

[04:08] let's go start the work day

[04:11] [Music]

[04:16] today is Friday and if you've watched my

[04:18] Vlogs before then you'll know Friday is

[04:19] a filming day hence we're filming but in

[04:22] addition to that I've got some general

[04:24] admin stuff to do I need to send a few

[04:26] emails and I also want to do my weekly

[04:30] kind of file organization routine I

[04:32] talked about that up in this video but

[04:34] basically I'm going to go through the

[04:35] photos I took on my phone this week

[04:36] delete anything off my phone I don't

[04:38] need I'm going to clear off my desktop

[04:40] and downloads and I also have my b-roll

[04:43] to organize that I filmed in the last

[04:45] couple weeks that I want to make sure I

[04:46] have access to in future videos but I'm

[04:48] also just feeling like this week I've

[04:49] kind of let my desk area get very

[04:52] cluttered so after I send some emails

[04:55] I'm gonna do a little bit of tidying up

[05:03] I think another big mindset shift for me

[05:06] around the whole productivity and

[05:09] burnout thing has been realizing that

[05:11] like it's okay for things to feel easy I

[05:15] think I've always kind of been attached

[05:17] to my work ethic in a way or thinking

[05:19] that like working hard is what's really

[05:22] important in life or it makes you like a

[05:24] more valuable person or that's how

[05:27] you're going to be successful and don't

[05:28] get me wrong I'm definitely grateful for

[05:30] the hard work I've done in the past and

[05:31] I do think that things like say growing

[05:34] a YouTube channel growing a business it

[05:35] does take hard work but that doesn't

[05:37] mean that like working hard is the

[05:40] epitome of you know what you're supposed

[05:41] to be doing in life and so I've been

[05:44] trying to lean a little bit more into

[05:46] ease and telling myself like I don't

[05:48] always have to be in a rush I don't

[05:50] always have to be grinding it's okay to

[05:53] take things slow and to make things feel

[05:56] easier but I know it can be really hard

[05:58] to embrace that when you're coming from

[06:00] a perspective of feeling like hard work

[06:02] is good laziness is bad so then anything

[06:05] that kind of like feels adjacent to

[06:08] laziness you like start to feel guilty

[06:10] and I just think that's a really like

[06:11] toxic connection that we need to break

[06:13] down because you can't just Hustle Hard

[06:15] forever you need to take breaks you need

[06:17] things to feel easy sometimes and also I

[06:19] think it's a matter of like allowing

[06:21] yourself to feel like you deserve for

[06:23] things to be easy that things don't

[06:25] always have to be hard for you I think

[06:27] that can be really difficult to embrace

[06:30] this poor plant looks so sad I mean I

[06:34] think it's a stretch to call this a

[06:35] plant anymore but you know what I feel

[06:37] like this is a good metaphor for what

[06:39] can happen to you if you work yourself

[06:42] too hard and you don't make sure that

[06:44] you get the sunshine and water and rest

[06:46] that you need okay let this be a warning

[06:48] to all of us but uh actually though I

[06:51] think I'm going to take this pot and

[06:54] plant an actual living plant in there

[06:57] this weekend so

[06:59] I let it sit here way too long

[07:01] real quick I want to say thank you to

[07:03] the sponsor of today's video Riverside

[07:05] Riverside is my favorite way to record

[07:07] podcast interviews online their platform

[07:09] makes it so easy because all you need to

[07:11] do is send a link to your guest and they

[07:13] can enter the studio through their web

[07:15] browser they don't need to download any

[07:16] additional software earlier this week I

[07:18] recorded an interview from my podcast

[07:20] Creator Club using Riverside I was

[07:22] interviewing my friend Molly and it was

[07:24] just so seamless and the thing is you

[07:25] get full quality recordings as if you

[07:27] were in person so you get the full HD

[07:29] video the crisp sounding audio and it's

[07:32] super easy to use plus Riverside has

[07:34] recently released some really cool

[07:35] features one of those is Magic Clips

[07:38] which uses AI to choose the most

[07:40] interesting parts of your podcast and

[07:42] turn it into social clips that you can

[07:44] share on Instagram or Tick Tock and the

[07:46] AI transcription feature makes it so

[07:48] easy to grab the transcription from your

[07:50] interview from your podcast episode and

[07:52] turn it into a blog post for example

[07:54] start recording your podcast interviews

[07:56] using Riverside check them out at the

[07:57] link in my description make sure to use

[07:59] my code kd15 to get 15 off of your

[08:01] Riverside subscription

[08:05] [Music]

[08:07] this maybe sounds totally dorky but one

[08:10] of my favorite types of tasks to do is

[08:14] something that I can just kind of like

[08:15] mindlessly work through while I listen

[08:18] to a podcast because so much of what I

[08:20] do is not like that editing a video it

[08:23] you know needs your full attention

[08:24] writing scripts like strategizing stuff

[08:27] even when I do like my finances and my

[08:29] bookkeeping like I feel like I really

[08:31] need to pay attention to that so when I

[08:33] have something that I can just like kick

[08:34] back and listen to a podcast and drag

[08:37] files around I I love that that is a

[08:39] great break

[08:44] [Music]

[08:48] same Berto is actually taking breaks

[08:51] throughout the day including one for

[08:53] lunch and this week I have not been so

[08:55] good about that I've been like eating

[08:57] and working but today I'm going to

[09:01] actually stop for the next

[09:03] at least half an hour

[09:05] and just eat my lunch

[09:07] and probably watch some educational

[09:10] YouTube videos for entertainment earlier

[09:13] this week I meal prepped some pasta

[09:15] salad and it is the easiest lunch ever

[09:22] foreign

[09:24] [Applause]

[09:24] [Music]

[09:32] it's time to get back into work but I

[09:37] actually don't have a huge to-do list

[09:39] for the rest of the day I kind of got my

[09:41] admin work done this morning obviously

[09:44] I'm continuously filming this video but

[09:47] otherwise I was going to maybe do a

[09:49] little bit of work on my Vlog if you

[09:52] didn't know I have a travel Vlog channel

[09:53] it's called Katie and Dan in a van

[09:54] originally I wanted to post this video

[09:56] like weeks ago but I decided to just

[09:59] like let myself take some time with it

[10:02] and get it done when I was feeling

[10:05] inspired and had time to work on it and

[10:07] I think that's another big lesson that

[10:09] I'm trying to learn lately is that it's

[10:11] okay to slow things down it's okay to

[10:14] scale back on what you're creating every

[10:18] week especially going into the summer I

[10:21] just felt like you know a lot of people

[10:23] are taking more time off there's the

[10:25] long weekends that are happening and it

[10:27] just felt like I wanted to do less and I

[10:30] kind of realized that I was putting this

[10:32] pressure on myself

[10:33] to create all of this stuff that was

[10:37] mostly optional especially with my short

[10:39] form content like my reels I have brand

[10:42] deals on my reels like every so often

[10:45] but it's not like a super consistent

[10:46] part of my content calendar but I was

[10:49] posting three reels per week anyway just

[10:51] because that's what I sort of had been

[10:54] doing as part of my growth strategy

[10:55] obviously it was working so I wanted to

[10:57] continue and I think that there is a

[10:59] season for that there's like a time and

[11:01] a place to really like push yourself to

[11:03] get more content out to see the results

[11:04] that you want but I was just feeling so

[11:07] like overwhelmed with keeping up with

[11:10] all the content I was making so I

[11:11] decided to scale back to just making one

[11:13] reel per week at least for now probably

[11:15] for the summer I think in September I'll

[11:18] probably ramp back up to doing more but

[11:21] I think the tough thing about this is I

[11:23] know a lot of people don't talk about

[11:24] this like when you start to see results

[11:26] with the social media content you're

[11:28] posting and you see the view counts go

[11:30] up and you see your follower count

[11:32] increasing it can be really hard to stop

[11:36] doing what you're doing like you almost

[11:38] become addicted in a way to seeing those

[11:40] results we're like well I have to keep

[11:42] posting more so that you know every time

[11:44] I refresh my Instagram profile I have

[11:45] more followers but if you really sit

[11:47] back and think about it it's like well

[11:49] why do I want more followers like what

[11:52] benefit am I actually gaining from that

[11:54] other than just the dopamine hit of

[11:56] seeing higher numbers and yeah in the

[11:58] long term you know you can get more

[12:00] brand deals you can sell you know your

[12:02] product better you can scale your

[12:03] business further with a larger audience

[12:05] that's definitely true but in the short

[12:08] term day-to-day like what's the need for

[12:10] virality I think just focusing on the

[12:13] slow and steady build is a much

[12:15] healthier mindset and so especially in

[12:17] this time where I'm like feeling myself

[12:19] inching towards burnout again I'm like

[12:21] you know what I just need to really

[12:23] intentionally scale things back

[12:25] understand that I'm not going to see the

[12:27] growth that I had been seeing but that's

[12:29] okay we don't necessarily need that

[12:31] there's times where you want to work

[12:33] really hard to see a lot of growth and

[12:35] then there's some times where you just

[12:36] need to work a little less and take it

[12:39] easier so because I have scaled back my

[12:42] work over the last couple of weeks I now

[12:44] do have a little bit of time on a Friday

[12:46] afternoon to work on my passion project

[12:49] more or less which is my Vlog Channel

[12:52] [Music]

[12:58] if you have ever edited a travel Vlog

[13:01] before then you will know that this

[13:03] takes way longer than you think it would

[13:05] I've probably already spent an hour

[13:08] going through just selecting the clips

[13:11] that are going to be used in the final

[13:12] edit and Dan probably spent about like

[13:15] an hour and a half or two hours doing

[13:16] the same thing and I'm just now getting

[13:20] through day three of our Yellowstone

[13:22] footage and we have

[13:24] four days to include so I'm getting

[13:27] through it but that's just literally

[13:30] choosing what I call the selects so this

[13:33] is what the timeline looks like right

[13:35] now like obviously it's not properly

[13:37] edited at all I just have it categorized

[13:40] into different like segments and then

[13:43] the footage that we're going to use is

[13:46] underneath those little sections so this

[13:49] is just the initial step of starting to

[13:52] edit a travel Vlog once I have all of

[13:55] the actual Clips like the final pieces

[13:57] of clips that are usable sorted kind of

[14:00] in chronological order or in the order

[14:02] of the scenes that I'm going to include

[14:04] then it's gonna be actually time to

[14:06] start putting it together in terms of

[14:08] like the background music and like you

[14:11] know editing

[14:12] just like actually editing it I feel

[14:14] like I'm gonna need a coffee to get

[14:16] through this because it's so much

[14:18] there's just so much footage here

[14:23] well I finished going through the rough

[14:24] draft and actually picking out the

[14:26] selects and now the hard work begins of

[14:28] actually editing this Vlog and I am in

[14:33] dire need of coffee if I'm gonna stay

[14:35] awake to do that so I'm gonna head over

[14:37] to my favorite local coffee shop and

[14:40] work for the rest of the afternoon oh

[14:42] and I'm bringing a friend along if you

[14:44] were wondering before this is the Dan

[14:46] from Katie and Dan in a van that's uh

[14:48] that's how we know each other we have a

[14:50] YouTube channel yes

[14:52] [Music]

[14:53] ah

[14:57] see when I bring him along with me then

[14:58] I get help with my b-roll

[15:02] [Music]

[15:07] you all need to know that I was working

[15:09] on editing that Yellowstone Vlog for

[15:12] about an hour and I have completed about

[15:14] two and a half minutes of it thankfully

[15:17] it does get faster once you get past the

[15:19] intro because I always make the intro so

[15:20] action-packed and like use a ton of

[15:22] b-roll from throughout the Vlog so now

[15:25] it should just be another maybe four to

[15:28] five hours of work hopefully but I have

[15:30] decided to close that up for the day

[15:32] because it's time for my final anti-burn

[15:36] habit that I wanted to share with you

[15:38] and that is really taking time to focus

[15:41] on your hobbies I know for me a source

[15:44] of burnout is often putting too much

[15:47] weight or value on my performance in

[15:50] terms of work or my career or my

[15:53] business and I find it's healthy to like

[15:55] diversify your sort of Personality

[15:58] Investments so instead of just putting

[16:00] all of your value in your work maybe

[16:03] also put it in some different hobbies

[16:05] and for me lately that has been learning

[16:08] Spanish so I've been trying to do this

[16:10] thing every day that I call Spanish hour

[16:12] which is roughly an hour of kind of

[16:15] independent study and I have this

[16:17] checklist that I go through that kind of

[16:19] guides some techniques that I'm using to

[16:22] try to just like pick up more vocabulary

[16:25] definitely at some point I'm gonna have

[16:27] to like shift what this looks like but

[16:28] at the stage that I'm at it works well

[16:30] so I spend 15 minutes reading a literal

[16:33] children's book and I write down all the

[16:35] vocabulary that's unfamiliar to me and I

[16:37] look it up I add it to my spreadsheet

[16:40] full of my Spanish vocabulary my goal is

[16:43] to eventually have this hit a thousand

[16:45] words but I'm just at about 300 right

[16:47] now and I use this spreadsheet to

[16:49] populate these Quizlet cue cards so then

[16:51] I'll spend another 15 minutes going

[16:53] through the cue cards and quizzing

[16:55] myself and then after that I have a

[16:57] variety of other kind of like learning

[16:59] activities whether it's doing a

[17:01] worksheet or I'm taking Damon

[17:02] Dominique's course as well so that's

[17:04] what I like to do to finish off my work

[17:06] days because it's a good transition away

[17:08] from my regular work and into something

[17:10] that I'm doing just for me and I highly

[17:13] recommend especially if you work for

[17:14] yourself if you're a Creator or an

[17:16] entrepreneur to have something like this

[17:18] so that you can have another area of

[17:20] your life where you can kind of measure

[17:22] your progress and get better at

[17:24] something without it being tied to like

[17:26] how much money you're making basically I

[17:28] honestly think the biggest thing that

[17:30] you can do to prevent burnout is to

[17:33] genuinely remind yourself that you are

[17:36] worth taking care of it can be so easy

[17:38] to prioritize everything else in your

[17:41] life and if you're anything like me then

[17:42] you'll tell yourself it's okay I'm tough

[17:44] I can handle it I'll just keep working

[17:46] but trust me you can only do that for so

[17:49] long it's so important that you stop and

[17:52] take breaks and rest and take care of

[17:54] yourself so I hope this Vlog today

[17:56] inspired you to take some time time for

[17:59] yourself to build your own anti-burn out

[18:02] routines so that you have a daily

[18:03] approach to your life that's not just

[18:06] about productivity and work but also

[18:08] about taking good care of yourself it's

[18:10] not just about getting as much done as

[18:12] possible or making as much money as

[18:14] possible or getting as many new

[18:15] followers as possible is about making

[18:17] sure that you are a happy and fulfilled

[18:20] individual because at the end of the day

[18:21] that is truly all we have and if you

[18:24] want to do that by finding help with

[18:25] your social media content then I did

[18:27] just want to let you know that my
