New Spider-Man Trailer: Gray Hulk & Mutations!
45sThis clip introduces multiple viral hooks: a new Spider-Man movie, the surprise appearance of a gray Hulk, and the concept of spider puberty, all of which are highly engaging for fans.
▶ Play ClipThe video breaks down Easter eggs and references from the trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including new villains like Ramrod, the concept of 'spider puberty,' and the introduction of gray Hulk. It also discusses the DODC's potential role in controlling villains and the return of characters like the Punisher.
Ramrod is a cyborg villain from the comics, blackmailed by a corrupt attorney. His appearance supports the theory that the DODC is behind the new villains.
Peter's skin becomes impenetrable, a needle cannot break through. A little girl calls it 'spider puberty,' and Tom Holland used that term when pitching the concept.
The trailer shows a graphic indicating Peter's hormones are 50% human and 50% arachnid, and a gene chart hints at the introduction of the mutant gene with Jean Grey.
Spider-Man is shown testing organic webs on a rooftop, a direct reference to Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man.
A social media GIF shows a gray Hulk, indicating a split personality. Gray Hulk can speak fluently and has control, unlike the green Hulk.
The Punisher appears, living on a boat called 'The Golden Girl,' directly from Spider-Man #141. Peter brings MJ there for protection.
The Persuader, a mind-controlling villain, is introduced. He may be working for the DODC, possibly using Jean Grey's powers.
MJ is shown in a yellow sweater at a graveyard, likely Aunt May's grave. This parallels the Raimi film's cemetery scene.

9:17[00:00] Marvel and Sony just released a series
[00:01] of trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New
[00:03] Day and we're here to break down all of
[00:04] the Easter eggs, references, and little
[00:06] things you might have missed in these
[00:07] trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
[00:09] Welcome back to ScreenCrush. I'm Ryan
[00:11] Arey and Brand New Day just released an
[00:13] awesome second trailer, but now they're
[00:14] also rolling out TV spots with brand new
[00:17] footage featuring new villains, the
[00:18] Avengers, and even a gray Hulk. In
[00:20] previous trailers for the movie, we have
[00:22] seen Spider-Man fighting a series of
[00:24] low-level villains like Boomerang and
[00:26] the Tarantula and also recreating
[00:27] classic comic book covers. That theme
[00:29] continues here with this show Spider-Man
[00:31] fighting Ramrod recreating this cover of
[00:33] The Amazing Spider-Man 221 where Ramrod
[00:36] is actually crashing into Empire State
[00:38] University, which is the school where
[00:40] Bruce Banner is now teaching. In the
[00:42] comics, Ramrod was the foreman of an oil
[00:44] rig and was injured on the job. He
[00:45] received cybernetic enhancement from a
[00:47] corrupt attorney called Kerwin
[00:48] Broderick, essentially turning him into
[00:50] a cyborg. Ramrod was then blackmailed
[00:52] with a poison inside of his body that
[00:54] upon release would kill him, giving him
[00:56] no choice but to do as he was told by
[00:58] Broderick. This led to Ramrod facing off
[01:00] against heroes like Spider-Man before he
[01:02] was eventually defeated by Daredevil and
[01:04] Black Widow. Now, a character like
[01:06] Ramrod who was given cybernetic
[01:07] enhancements and is being blackmailed
[01:09] and controlled by a corrupt individual
[01:11] adds fuel to the fire for the theory
[01:12] that Coulson had in this video on the
[01:14] channel discussing how the DODC is
[01:16] behind all of these new villains
[01:18] including the Scorpion. But I thought
[01:19] Damage Control was the good guys. Well,
[01:21] we think that they are using villains to
[01:23] cause damage for Damage Control to,
[01:25] well, control and thus it would justify
[01:27] the agency's existence. In the show
[01:30] One-Man, we saw that Control's biggest
[01:32] opponent wasn't super villains, it was
[01:34] trying to get government funding. Now,
[01:36] in this shot where we see Spider-Man
[01:38] jumping off the top of this building,
[01:39] which is a slightly different version of
[01:41] this scene that we already got in the
[01:43] first trailer, you'll notice that Spidey
[01:44] is doing a different flip this time.
[01:46] Instead of a sideways roll, he's doing a
[01:48] bit of a backflip. Now, if you look
[01:50] behind him in the skyline, you can see
[01:52] Avengers Tower, the brand new fully
[01:54] renovated version that has been under
[01:56] construction. The construction is now
[01:58] complete and according to those who saw
[02:00] the Avengers Doomsday trailer at
[02:01] CinemaCon, this is what the Avengers
[02:03] Tower will look like in that film. Now,
[02:05] the last time we saw Avengers Tower was
[02:06] here in Daredevil Born Again where we
[02:08] saw it sporting this new spike-like arch
[02:10] behind it, which can be seen here in
[02:12] this shot as well. Here we see Peter in
[02:14] a classroom full of young kids showing
[02:15] that even superheroes like Spider-Man
[02:17] need to get their vaccines and that
[02:19] shots are nothing to be scared of. I'm
[02:21] sure though that J. Jonah Jameson would
[02:23] probably disagree. As the nurse goes to
[02:24] give him his shot, the needle bends. It
[02:27] can't break through his skin. Now,
[02:28] Spider-Man has never been impervious to
[02:30] getting stabbed.
[02:31] >> I've been stabbed Oh god. [sighs]
[02:33] >> So, why is a needle now unable to enter
[02:36] his skin? Well, according to this little
[02:38] girl,
[02:38] >> It's probably spider puberty.
[02:40] >> Hey, hey, hey, come on. And she's not
[02:42] wrong. Peter is going through some kind
[02:44] of mutation where his powers are
[02:45] advancing. Tom Holland is even quoted as
[02:48] having used the term spider puberty when
[02:50] pitching this concept for the film. Now,
[02:52] our own Colton Ausburn is currently
[02:53] working on a video that will be hitting
[02:55] the channel soon where we discuss what
[02:56] secret villain Holland could be
[02:57] referring to in this recent interview.
[02:59] >> The villain that we have in this new
[03:01] movie, which is still very much a
[03:03] secret.
[03:04] >> And without giving it away, we think
[03:06] that villain could be responsible for
[03:07] Peter's skin becoming impenetrable. Now,
[03:10] I
[03:11] >> Oh no, a tree fell down and blocked the
[03:13] door to the store. No one can get in.
[03:15] We're ruined.
[03:16] >> Uh-huh, check this out.
[03:19] I just got this mini chainsaw for free
[03:21] and now I'm going to show you guys how
[03:23] to get your own free stuff from Temu,
[03:25] the sponsor of this video. Guys, this is
[03:27] not a scam, not a hustle, this is just
[03:29] free stuff. Here's how it works. So,
[03:31] first of all, you have to download the
[03:33] app and you can scan this QR code on
[03:34] screen and then and look, people always
[03:36] mess this part up, just type in my code
[03:39] kmq4963
[03:41] into the search bar, not at checkout.
[03:44] And then you pick from Temu's most
[03:45] popular products like the handheld
[03:47] chainsaw. And I also got these bar
[03:49] clamps which are super helpful for the
[03:50] deer fence that I'm building. And I got
[03:52] some lovely garden decorations. And
[03:57] the store is saved. Hooray! Again, guys,
[03:59] this is so easy to do. You just have to
[04:01] download the Temu app with this QR code
[04:03] and then enter our code for the no
[04:05] strings attached $0 sale. We've also
[04:07] secured a $20 off coupon for everyone.
[04:10] No hoops to jump through. Just take
[04:12] advantage of getting this free stuff. I
[04:14] ordered a knife sharpener and some bar
[04:16] clamps. It is so easy and it's just
[04:18] sitting there waiting for you to
[04:19] download the app and make this happen
[04:21] now. So, just click our link in the
[04:22] description and save with Temu
[04:24] instantly. Now, back to what I was
[04:26] saying. Here in Peter's fight with Mac
[04:27] Gargan Scorpion, remember Mac Gargan is
[04:29] this dude that the Vulture hit with a
[04:30] car in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but here
[04:33] Gargan blames Spider-Man and wants
[04:34] revenge.
[04:35] >> You know, take a picture, slice his
[04:37] throat, put his head in the dryer.
[04:39] >> In this fight with Scorpion, they cut it
[04:40] and they attempted to sync Gargan's
[04:42] lines to make it seem like he's the one
[04:44] who's saying, "What's going on with you,
[04:45] Spider-Man?" But this is clearly Tom
[04:47] Holland speaking and it's Peter saying
[04:49] this to himself as he questions what the
[04:51] hell is going on with his body, similar
[04:53] to this line from Toby Spidey in
[04:55] Spider-Man 2.
[04:56] >> Why is this happening to me?
[04:58] >> What's going on with you, Spider-Man?
[04:59] >> Spider-Man: Brand New Day is borrowing
[05:01] heavily from Raimi's Spider-Man 2 and
[05:03] hey, that's fine with me because that
[05:05] is, I think, the greatest comic book
[05:06] movie ever made after Superman: The
[05:08] Movie. Peter's physical changes are also
[05:10] very cool, but just like in Spider-Man
[05:12] 2, they are stemming from or are at
[05:14] least meant to be a physical
[05:16] representation of Peter's quarter-life
[05:18] crisis and the struggles with identity
[05:20] he's been facing due to trying to
[05:22] balance being Peter Parker and
[05:23] Spider-Man. That's a struggle that's
[05:25] been dialed to 11 in this movie with the
[05:27] world no longer even knowing who Peter
[05:29] Parker even is. So, Peter is trying to
[05:31] figure out why he's mutating. On this
[05:34] screen, we see a graphic that indicates
[05:35] Peter's hormones are at 50% human and
[05:38] 50% arachnid. We also saw this gene
[05:41] chart that will play into the film's
[05:42] likely introduction of the mutant gene
[05:44] with Jean Grey. Now, we know Peter goes
[05:46] to Banner for help and in other trailers
[05:49] we have seen Spider-Man doing a body
[05:50] scan that I think we can assume Bruce
[05:52] Banner is helping with because
[05:53] Spider-Man is in his full costume,
[05:55] including the mask. I think we're likely
[05:57] going to see Peter pulling a Mrs.
[05:59] Doubtfire and trying to pretend that
[06:00] he's Spider-Man's friend and not
[06:02] Spider-Man, just like he does in the
[06:03] animated series with Curt Connors. Bruce
[06:05] will likely play along, but I think he's
[06:07] too smart to not put two and two
[06:09] together. Peter still appears to have an
[06:10] AI assistant, which makes sense. I mean,
[06:12] hey, don't we all?
[06:15] >> What?
[06:15] >> The voice reads out the following.
[06:17] >> Organic webs, heightened senses,
[06:19] increased agility.
[06:20] >> And we see Spidey on a rooftop
[06:21] experimenting with his new organic webs
[06:24] and as he presses down on his arm, some
[06:25] web shoots out causing him to gag.
[06:29] And the scene of Spider-Man being on a
[06:30] rooftop to test out his new powers is
[06:32] yet another reference to Toby Spider-Man
[06:35] who has organic webbing and tested its
[06:37] swinging capabilities on a rooftop in
[06:39] the first Spider-Man. We see Spidey save
[06:41] this kid in the midst of a chase with an
[06:42] armored vehicle.
[06:43] >> You okay, kid? Yeah, you're okay.
[06:45] >> That reminded me of yet another Toby
[06:46] moment from Spider-Man 2.
[06:47] >> No playing in the streets.
[06:49] >> Yes, Mr. Spider-Man. [music]
[06:50] >> See you.
[06:51] >> Now, in our breakdown of the second
[06:52] trailer, we actually missed this small
[06:54] detail here where Peter is holding
[06:56] Bruce's broken inhibitor wristband and
[06:58] you'll see that it reads ASM 14. Amazing
[07:00] Spider-Man 14 being Spider-Man's first
[07:02] encounter with the Hulk. So, the Hulk is
[07:05] unleashed and thunderclaps Spider-Man
[07:07] and we see the two falling out of this
[07:09] building. Now, what's going on here has
[07:10] to be some trailer cutting trickery
[07:12] because when the Hulk hulks out, they
[07:14] are in Peter's apartment, we think. But,
[07:16] this shot of this building they're
[07:17] falling from is definitely not Peter's
[07:19] apartment building. In fact, this LEGO
[07:21] set confirms that it is a Department of
[07:23] Damage Control building. So, I'm
[07:25] actually not sure about that either. Our
[07:26] best guess is that when the Hulk is
[07:28] released, he goes on a rampage through
[07:29] Manhattan and this building is just one
[07:31] of the many that we're going to see him
[07:33] crash through. Now, in this shot from
[07:35] the second trailer, Hulk is green, but
[07:37] in a recently released social media gift
[07:39] from Sony, those with a keen eye noticed
[07:41] that the Hulk is not green, he is gray.
[07:43] Now, with this movie exploring mutations
[07:45] and genes and the Hulk being gray, this
[07:48] is all the confirmation we need that
[07:49] Sadie Sink is playing Shatra. I mean,
[07:51] this is all the confirmation we need
[07:53] that Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey.
[07:55] No, but look, in all seriousness, we are
[07:56] likely viewing the gray Hulk here. Rumor
[07:58] has it that in Age of Ultron, when the
[08:00] Hulk was released by another mind
[08:02] manipulator, the initial plans were for
[08:03] him to be gray. Now, gray Hulk is a
[08:05] split personality of Bruce Banner.
[08:07] Unlike the green version of the Hulk,
[08:09] gray Hulk can speak English fluently and
[08:11] not like a caveman.
[08:13] >> Get away! [music]
[08:14] Run!
[08:15] >> This Hulk actually has control over
[08:17] himself. And fun fact for you, when the
[08:18] Hulk was first introduced, he was also
[08:20] gray. But, following unforeseen printing
[08:22] issues, Stan Lee decided to change his
[08:24] color to green. Now, for a long time,
[08:26] the Hulk has been locked away. The mind
[08:28] of the Hulk, I mean. Bruce combined the
[08:30] brain and the brawn by suppressing the
[08:32] Hulk's mind and taking his hands
[08:33] completely off the wheel. But, he's
[08:35] still happy to use the Hulk's physical
[08:37] form, aka the power of his immense
[08:39] strength. Gray Hulk could be a flip of
[08:41] the script here, though. The mind of the
[08:42] Hulk could retake the wheel, sending
[08:44] Banner's consciousness back into exile
[08:46] like we saw in Ragnarok. Only this time,
[08:48] the same way Banner maintained the power
[08:50] of the Hulk while sending his mind into
[08:51] darkness, the Hulk could maintain the
[08:53] intelligence of Banner while sending
[08:55] Banner's mind into the darkness and thus
[08:57] creating the gray Hulk. So, another MCU
[09:00] alum joining Spider-Man in this movie is
[09:02] the Punisher. A recent interview with
[09:04] Tom Holland features him talking about
[09:05] his friendship with Jon Bernthal and how
[09:07] the two of them helped each other with
[09:08] their respective auditions for their
[09:10] Marvel roles years ago. And how Holland
[09:12] has wanted this team-up on screen for a
[09:14] long time. Here, at Frank's hideout,
[09:17] where Peter takes MJ to be protected, we
[09:18] see that Frank is living in a boat
[09:20] called The Golden Girl. This is taken
[09:22] directly from Spider-Man 141, where we
[09:24] see the Punisher living in the same boat
[09:26] called The Golden Girl. And our hope is
[09:28] that after Peter leaves MJ with Frank
[09:30] safe in The Golden Girl, Peter will turn
[09:32] around and thank Frank for being a
[09:34] friend.
[09:34] >> Thank you for being a
[09:37] >> [music]
[09:38] >> Now, in that same issue featuring the
[09:40] Golden Girl issue 141, we also meet the
[09:42] villain The Persuader. He is yet another
[09:44] Z-list Spider-Man villain, but he does
[09:46] have the ability to control minds. So,
[09:48] it's possible that we could learn that
[09:50] he is the mysterious villain using Jean
[09:52] Grey's mind control powers for himself.
[09:54] A recent TV spot subtitles indicated
[09:56] that the DODC boss played by Tramell
[09:58] Tillman is indeed the mutant-hating
[10:00] activist from the comics, William
[10:02] Metzger. And we could learn that one of
[10:03] his underlings at the DODC running the
[10:05] lab that is harnessing the power of Jean
[10:07] Grey could be Roland Rayburn, aka The
[10:10] Persuader. And speaking of persuasion,
[10:12] maybe I could persuade some of you to
[10:13] check out our merch store
[10:14] screenrushmerch.com by showing you some
[10:16] of these really cool Marvel-inspired
[10:17] designs that we have created for you on
[10:19] sale right now, like this Nelson and
[10:21] Murdock Law and Order parody shirt, I'm
[10:23] a really good lawyer business card, and
[10:25] many, many more. Links for these are
[10:26] below. So, in the comics, Rayburn is a
[10:28] Wall Street trader and a mutant with the
[10:31] ability to persuade others to do as he
[10:33] wishes. Roland is brainwashed into
[10:35] working for the Kingpin, and he is used
[10:37] to persuade the Punisher to kill a rival
[10:39] gang that were a threat to Wilson Fisk.
[10:40] Spider-Man intervenes, and The Persuader
[10:42] tells Punisher to kill Spider-Man, but
[10:44] The Punisher breaks through his control
[10:46] and instead pulls the trigger on
[10:48] Rayburn. So, maybe in a movie filled
[10:50] with the low-level Spider-Man villains
[10:51] that most people have never heard of, it
[10:53] would make sense that a villain like The
[10:55] Persuader could be yet another villain
[10:57] being used by the DODC. Okay, and here
[11:00] we have a shot of MJ in a yellow sweater
[11:02] at a graveyard. Now, the yellow sweater
[11:03] is reminiscent of MJ's sweater from
[11:05] Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Now, we
[11:07] can assume that MJ is with Peter at Aunt
[11:09] May's grave, but what will be
[11:11] interesting is to learn whether MJ
[11:13] remembers Peter at this point. We saw in
[11:15] Spider-Man: No Way Home that Happy Hogan
[11:17] remembered May and his relationship with
[11:19] her, and how he knew her through
[11:20] Spider-Man, but he did not remember
[11:22] Peter Parker. So, I would assume that MJ
[11:24] would remember May as well, maybe just
[11:26] not why she knew her. And this could be
[11:28] yet another parallel to the Raimi film.
[11:30] In Spider-Man, we saw Peter in a
[11:32] cemetery tell MJ the two of them can
[11:34] never be together. It would be poetic if
[11:36] come the end of this film, Peter decides
[11:38] that he can't remind MJ who he is for
[11:40] the same reason he opted not to at the
[11:42] end of No Way Home. He wants to keep her
[11:43] safe. And in No Way Home, even with MJ
[11:46] not remembering Peter, he has yet again
[11:48] put her in danger.
[11:49] >> Put you in danger. You just have to
[11:50] trust me.
[11:50] >> Well guys, that's everything we caught
