Twitch Setup Guide: Overlays, Alerts & Chat — Step-by-Step Guide & Transcript

[00:02] how to set everything up? Don't worry, my friend, because in this video I'll tell you step by step everything you have to do. Hey guys, started with the complete Twitch setup, but first, some clarifications. This

[00:16] video isn't about setting up OBS; I already have tons of videos about that, check them out on my channel. This video is for setting up overlays, alerts, and widgets. Everything you need to make your stream look cool. The second thing is that

[00:28] this video is only intended for streamers who stream on PC, not consoles, not mobile, PC. Anyway, I also have videos on my channel cell phone and from your PlayStation Xbox console. If you're interested, I'll be

[00:42] leaving them in the description section. That said, let's get started. The first thing we're going to configure are the overlays, which if you don't know what that is, you're seeing it right now that you have already created your Twitch account and also have OBS set up.

[00:56] Stream Elements page, I'll leave the link in the description, and we're going to log in if it asks for permission to use your account, don't worry, it's top left we're going to go to streaming tools and

[01:11] select overlay gallery. And here you have a huge variety of overlays that you can use. For example, this one here. This is a preview of what your overlay would look like. This one here, for example, would be an option for your

[01:23] your Jos chatting sessions. This one here is for starting your live stream, for when you're finishing it. And don't worry, they're all editable. Let's say I choose this to be the overlay for my streams. Now I'll

[01:37] immediately click here too, go to my overlays. Okay, I've added my five scenes and I'm ready to edit them. Remember that you only need to For example purposes, I'm going to edit the first one, the one from the Just

[01:50] Chatting scene. I click on edit and let's begin with the customization. And believe me, it's super easy. First, we must recognize the elements. On the social media. In the central part we have the space where our camera would go. And in

[02:04] the top right section we have the chat section and the editing. First I'm going to update this, and to do so I'm simply going to left side, selecting what I need to edit. And here it is. As you can see, the

[02:18] text was shaded. If I chose something else, down, down, down. Look, this is where I would be. It's just a matter of identifying what we're going to modify. Before we go any further , here's a secret. Simply streaming is not enough to get viewers.

[02:30] If people don't know you, they won't see you . The easiest way to build community, to start bringing people to your live streams, is with clips, YouTube Shorts, TikToks, and Facebook videos. And the fastest and easiest way to get them

[04:17] name it whatever you want. I'll add an overlay. Accept. And here you're going to paste the the width and height fields, you'll enter the canvas resolution, which in most cases would be 1920 by 1080. Click

[04:31] OK and you're done. All that's missing here is a camera that you only need to use with the video capture device, as well as alerts and chat. Back in Stream Elements you'll be able to do the exact same edits with all the

[04:43] great thing about these overlays is that you automatically have the chatbox and alerts integrated, so in theory you should n't have to add anything else. I'm going to write other messages so you can see that it does work. Like and subscribe,

[04:56] why not? I've gone back to OBS and look, the chat is showing up automatically now. But if more personalized chat, we also have the option to create an exclusive chatbox. Now we're going to configure the widget for the chat. If you don't know what that is, you

[05:10] literally means that your chat appears on the screen. And for this streaming tools in the overlay galleries section , but this time we will go to where it says widgets. As you can see, there are many options you

[05:24] focus on the chat, and here's a preview of what it would look like. Here I'm going to a new overlay" is selected. Then we click on continue, create my overlay, go to my overlays and we have it here. Similarly, we're going to click on edit and on

[05:38] the left we're going to click here, then on settings and here are all your chat. You can change the font type, font size, thickness, color, where you want the messages to align, and so on.

[05:51] change here. Now, to go to the Twitch page, specifically to your channel, and here in the chat you're going to write whatever you want. Ready? And when we move to Stream Elements,

[06:04] coming out. Again, if you want to change something like the font type or size, you can left. Now, if you'd like to have a much more personalized chatbox, I already have several different tutorials for

[06:18] choose the one you like best. Once we have finished making will click on save. Next, we copy the overlay, move to OBS Studio, and here . Give it whatever name you want and paste it here. In this case we

[06:34] where our chat messages would be seen. Now we're going to modify the alerts, which if you don't know what they are, you're seeing them right now . They display actions that happen on your stream, such as donations, subscriptions,

[06:46] or other things, on screen in a very dynamic way. And here I'm going to Twitch's native alerts. To modify them, we have to go to the our profile in the upper right, we will go to the

[06:59] left panel we will click on alerts. We will now go to the panel on the right, specifically to the section that says your alerts. And don't worry, you shouldn't have any of this. The first thing we're going to do is go to the

[07:12] feed activity controls. This is because from the home page of pause the alerts if we need to for any reason . Now you will click on create alert box and this is where we can customize them. As you can

[07:26] see, there are several alerts for various types of events that may occur during your live stream. And don't get confused, it doesn't mean you have to add a 99S alert for each of these iterations. Adding it just once is more than enough

[07:38] . Now, if you don't want to modify anything at all, and , simply click here to copy in the lower add a new browser source. You give it whatever name you

[07:52] want, paste the link here, click accept, and your alert will appear in this red box . You can modify it to your liking, wherever you want to We return to the alerts panel on Twitch and as you can see at the

[08:04] top we have the buttons for testing. send test alert. I'm going to click here and look, it comes out here. Now, if I want to modify this design, we'll go to start with the general settings section. First we have

[08:17] really don't recommend you change this here, leave it as is. Next, me, a duration of 7 seconds is more than enough. We have the you like best. It might cascade, slide up and

[08:31] down or vice versa, or zoom in. I'm going to set it to zoom in and to zoom out. In the design section, you select how you want the alert to appear. Here I the image. Now text and voice. Here we will modify the alert message. Very

[09:24] volume, and if you want to add a delay, go ahead. Finally, image and sound. the sound of the alert, and you can upload a file, a GIF that you have, or use the Twitch image library . Look, here are lots of

[09:37] GIFs that you can use. The same goes for sound; you can upload your sound library. Last but not least , we have the strongly recommend that you activate them. Because? Because once an

[09:50] event occurs, specifically in the case of this alert which is a follow-up, select. For example, the fireworks area is set to automatic here , which will only appear in your live video,
