Why Your Videos Don't Go Viral
45sDirectly addresses a common pain point for creators, promising a solution.
▶ Play ClipThe video explains why YouTube Shorts may not get views, focusing on swipe rate as a key metric. The creator shares personal analytics showing a strong correlation between high swipe rate and viral success, arguing swipe rate is more important than retention or likes.
Swipe rate is the percentage of viewers who keep watching when a Short appears. A 70%+ swipe rate is good; below 60% hinders virality.
Creator's channel swipe rate grew from 60% to 80.5% over time, correlating with increased views.
A video with 98.7% swipe rate got nearly 10 million views, demonstrating strong correlation.
A poorly performing video had under 60% swipe rate, low likes, but high retention, indicating swipe rate is more critical.
A viral video had 70% retention but very high swipe rate, proving swipe rate matters more than retention.
On creator's channel, no viral video had swipe rate under 65%; below 60% fails to go viral.
Swipe rate is the most important metric for YouTube Shorts virality. Creators should aim for 70%+ swipe rate and ensure the first few seconds hook viewers to prevent swiping away.

4:05[00:00] in this video I'm going to explain why
[00:01] your videos aren't getting any views I
[00:03] know in my other video I advise that
[00:05] likes subscribers and retention are the
[00:08] key metrics that will determine if your
[00:09] videos will go viral or not but today
[00:12] I'm going to specifically focus on swipe
[00:14] rate swipe rate is a very
[00:16] straightforward metric basically it's
[00:18] just the percentage of viewers that kept
[00:20] watching your video when it popped up in
[00:22] their short speed for example if you
[00:24] have a swipe rate of 70% that means that
[00:27] 70% of viewers chose to keep watching
[00:29] your video when it appeared on their
[00:31] feed yesterday I discovered something
[00:33] very interesting with my videos
[00:34] analytics and I thought it would be
[00:36] worth sharing it with you all I wasn't
[00:38] even planning to make this video but
[00:40] after going down a deep Rabbit Hole
[00:41] yesterday I really want to show you all
[00:43] what I've discovered I had the
[00:45] realization that there's an
[00:46] understanding correlation between a
[00:47] video swipe rate and the number of views
[00:50] it gains I've briefly mentioned swipe
[00:52] rate in this other video where I
[00:54] mentioned with your swipe rate anything
[00:56] above 70% is really good but now I'm
[00:59] going to show you my video swiper rate
[01:00] analytics to prove just how crucial this
[01:03] video metric really is you'll need to go
[01:05] to analytics select content and if you
[01:08] scroll down you'll be able to see your
[01:10] Channel's full swipe rate my channel has
[01:13] a swipe rate of
[01:14] 80.5% meaning that for all of my viewers
[01:17] 80.5% of people have chosen to watch my
[01:20] shorts when it appears on their feed
[01:22] when I started my channel my swipe rate
[01:25] was about 60% and over time it has grown
[01:28] from 60% to now
[01:30] 80.5% and hopefully it will continue to
[01:33] increase like I was mentioning before
[01:35] there is a great correlation between
[01:37] swipe rate and the video's views for
[01:39] example you'll see here this video in
[01:42] particular has a swipe rate of
[01:46] 98.7% meaning that for all the viewers
[01:48] that had this video on their shorts feed
[01:51] 98.7% of people kept watching and as you
[01:54] can see the video has performed
[01:56] extremely well with almost 10 million
[01:58] views and as we go down the list you'll
[02:01] notice that most of my videos have a
[02:02] swipe rate greater than 70% so this just
[02:06] proves that there is a strong
[02:07] correlation between the swipe rate and
[02:09] the number of views the video has gained
[02:12] I posted this video and it actually
[02:13] performed really badly for my channel I
[02:16] was quite confused as to why it
[02:17] performed so badly because the video was
[02:20] just like any other video that I've
[02:21] posted recently and they've all tend to
[02:23] do really well so I selected reach on
[02:26] the video's analytics and straight away
[02:28] I noticed that the swipe rate was very
[02:30] low compared to my other videos so the
[02:32] video swipe rate is under 60% which is
[02:35] not typical for most of my videos they
[02:37] usually get 70% or greater after the
[02:40] first few hours of posting this video I
[02:43] assumed it performed badly because it
[02:44] had a low likes and subscribers ratio
[02:47] but after looking at it I could tell
[02:48] that the likes were pretty substandard
[02:50] compared to my other videos and the
[02:52] retention was also extremely high so as
[02:55] you can see at the beginning of the
[02:56] video I'm pointing to some text and then
[02:59] it takes a few seconds for the video to
[03:01] actually start so this means that people
[03:03] have started watching the video not
[03:05] really understood why the video was
[03:07] created or what it was about and kept
[03:09] swiping so this video has recently blown
[03:11] up on my channel and if we look at the
[03:13] swipe rate it is incredibly High which
[03:15] makes sense as to why it's blown up and
[03:17] got so many views so if we look at the
[03:19] video itself I'll show you the exact
[03:21] first few seconds as to why it kept
[03:23] viewers engaged so it's obviously
[03:25] something that's very engaging and
[03:27] viewers have kept watching the entire
[03:30] video it also has a very high like and
[03:32] subscriber ratio however the retention
[03:34] is only 70% which is a lot lower than
[03:37] most of my other viral videos so this
[03:39] just proves that the swipe rate is
[03:41] actually more important than retention
[03:43] itself the most viewed videos have the
[03:46] highest swipe rate and if we go all the
[03:48] way down to my lowest viewing videos
[03:51] this video's only got 162,000 views and
[03:54] it's got a swipe rate of under 60% so
[03:56] looking at these video analytics it is
[03:58] very obvious that the swipe rate
[04:00] definitely determines whether or not
[04:02] your video will go viral in this case
[04:05] any swipe rate below 60% will not go
[04:08] viral on my channel and to prove this
[04:10] point none of my viral videos have a
[04:12] swipe rate under 65% so after looking
[04:15] through my own video swipe rate I'd be
[04:17] interested to know if you guys see the
[04:19] same results when looking at your own
[04:20] videos analytics do you have any High
[04:23] performing videos with a swipe rate of
[04:25] less than 65% and if you have an average
[04:28] swipe rate across your Channel of
[04:29] anything less than 70% this may be the
[04:32] reason why your videos are stuck on zero
[04:34] views or are not getting any views at
[04:36] all it seems that YouTube really
[04:38] prioritizes this metric of swipe rate as
[04:41] they want viewers to stay engaged and
[04:43] keep watching as much content as they
[04:45] can so it makes sense for channels with
[04:47] high swipe rate get more views as
[04:49] YouTube want viewers to stay engaged for
[04:51] as long as possible please comment down
[04:53] below if you've noticed the same thing
[04:55] happened with your own channel and tell
[04:56] me about your own swipe rate I really
[04:59] hope that you guys have gained a
[05:00] valuable insight into this video metric
[05:02] and can improve it going forward on your
[05:04] own channels if you have any other
[05:06] questions about metrics or how to get
[05:07] views make sure to comment down below
[05:10] thanks for watching
