The 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma is an electric car with 640 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time under three seconds. Its standout feature is a virtual gear shift system that simulates a dual-clutch automatic transmission, providing a more engaging driving experience.
The GV60 Magma has 640 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds. Its most distinctive feature is a virtual gear shift that uses steering wheel paddles to simulate gear changes, mimicking a dual-clutch automatic.
The virtual gear shift system provides a realistic feel, with upshifts causing a 'shift shock' and changes in acceleration feel and rev range. This makes the car feel like a dual-clutch automatic rather than a typical electric car.
The system is described as an 'unbelievable feat' that enhances the driving experience, making it feel like a high-performance gasoline car. The gear shifting allows the driver to rev higher, adding to the excitement.
Other automakers are trying to copy this technology, which was premiered on the Hyundai Ioniq 5N. The GV60 Magma's implementation is praised as a great job, making it a standout in the EV market.
The Genesis GV60 Magma redefines the electric driving experience by simulating gear shifts, offering a unique blend of performance and engagement that sets it apart from other EVs.
Virtual Gear Shift
This is the core differentiator of the car, offering a realistic manual-like experience in an EV.

01:06[00:00] You can shift gears. This is an electric car. How do you shift gears? This is the new 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma. 640 horsepower, 0 to 60 in under three seconds.
[00:14] Pretty insane. But the crazy part isn't the numbers. It's everything else. To me, the very coolest performance-y thing that you can do with this car is you can shift gears.
[00:26] It's called virtual gear shift. You use the paddles on the steering wheel to upshift and downshift just like you would in a normal dual-clutch automatic car. And I got to tell you, it feels just like that, too, when you're driving around.
[00:41] When you press upshift, it gives you a little bit of shift shock, and it feels like you have been gone down in a rev range. They change, like, the makeup, the composition, the feel of the acceleration of the car in order to simulate these gear shifts.
[00:54] and it really makes this car feel like you're driving a dual-clutch automatic car instead of like you're driving sort of a boring electric car with just regular acceleration and no gearing. It is an unbelievable feat.
[01:06] Other automakers are desperately trying to copy this, which Hyundai premiered on the Ioniq 5N, and now it's in this car, and they did such a great job.
[01:18] It is dead fast, And I love how the gear shifting really does get you like higher in the rev range. Makes no sense. But it does that and it feels like that.
