[00:00] If I told you that I owned a 992 Porsche
[00:03] 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet, would you
[00:07] know what I was talking about? This
[00:08] video will be the most comprehensive
[00:11] breakdown of the current modern Porsche
[00:14] 911 lineup. Later in this video, I will
[00:16] talk about the internal designations so
[00:18] you can better understand Porsche's most
[00:20] famous sports car. As a quick
[00:22] background, I have personally driven the
[00:24] modern Porsche 911 GT3 Turbo S and even
[00:28] the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. To
[00:32] better understand the Porsche 911, you
[00:35] need to understand that Porsche has a
[00:37] hierarchy. The most common Porsche 911s,
[00:41] the 911 Carrera is the base model
[00:43] Porsche 911. The current one has 379
[00:46] horsepower from a 3 L flat 6 engine in
[00:49] the car's rear. And all of these base
[00:51] cars have an 8-speed PDK automatic
[00:54] transmission. You could also configure
[00:56] your 911 to be a cabriolet or have that
[00:59] target top. The Porsche 911 Carrera T is
[01:01] an homage to the iconic. This car has a
[01:04] manual transmission and is loaded up
[01:06] with sport performance options all while
[01:08] keeping the same engine as the base 911.
[01:11] Next, we have the Porsche 911 Carrera S.
[01:14] is tuned to 443 horsepower, up from the
[01:18] 379 horsepower of the base model. It has
[01:21] track ready brakes, a track ready
[01:23] suspension included on the vehicle as
[01:26] standard. The Svariant also gives you
[01:28] the choice of choosing between an
[01:29] automatic gearbox or the 7speed manual
[01:33] transmission. For people who are buying
[01:35] a twodoor sports car, many like to spend
[01:36] the extra money and get their choice of
[01:38] a gearbox and the extra added
[01:40] performance. You could also option out
[01:42] your Carrera S to have a convertible or
[01:45] all-wheel drive. The next level of the
[01:47] Porsche 911 GTS variants. This model is
[01:51] even faster, guys, at 473 horsepower. It
[01:55] has all of the sporty add-ons
[01:56] automatically included. It provides a
[01:59] bit firmer of a driving experience, more
[02:01] noise, more of a racing and sporty feel
[02:04] to the base 911. And you could also once
[02:06] again option it out to be a manual or
[02:09] automatic transmission. Car and Driver
[02:11] said that they got this car from 0 to 60
[02:13] in 2.8 seconds. It is the fastest 911
[02:17] that you're going to get outside of the
[02:19] more higher performance turbo and GT
[02:22] models that I'm about to talk about. And
[02:24] once again, as I did already mention,
[02:26] all of these Porsches, you can get them
[02:28] in all-wheel drive. You can have the
[02:29] Carrera 4 GTS has a little bit of
[02:32] different styling on the car, but
[02:34] otherwise, you know, you're choosing
[02:35] between rear wheel drive, all-wheel
[02:37] drive. The turbo models, 1975, Porsche
[02:41] introduced the turbocharger to the 911
[02:43] lineup with the 930 turbo. Since then,
[02:46] Porsche has always introduced a turbo
[02:49] variant in their 911. You could tell the
[02:52] turbo cars because they have the turbo
[02:54] look. They have a spoiler. They are
[02:56] sportier. There is sometimes a meaner
[02:58] appearing car and they are intended to
[03:00] bridge that gap between regular daily
[03:03] driving and a more sportier race
[03:05] car-like performance driving that people
[03:08] desire. The 911 Turbos are essentially
[03:10] the most powerful everyday sports car
[03:13] that you can own in their lineup. You
[03:15] have the 911 Turbo, you have the 911
[03:18] Turbo Cabriolet, you have the 911 Turbo
[03:20] S for additional power, you have the 911
[03:24] Turbo S Cabriolet. And while the turbos
[03:27] are all about performance on the streets
[03:29] and you can still take it on the track,
[03:31] the Porsche 911 GT3 is purely based off
[03:36] of track performance and looking good
[03:38] when you are at Cars and Coffee. The GT3
[03:41] sacrifices more of the modern luxury,
[03:44] comforts, infotainment for a race car
[03:47] like experience.
[03:55] The 911 GT3 has race seats, an enormous
[03:59] spoiler, massive air intakes,
[04:01] performance track tires, reduced weight,
[04:03] and all the sporty add-ons needed to be
[04:05] a track weapon. The base GT3 has a 502
[04:09] horsepower naturally aspirated engine,
[04:12] which red lines at 9,000 RPM and can
[04:15] reach 197 mph. And guys, when I took the
[04:18] GT3 onto the track, I did not get
[04:20] anywhere near 197 mph. I was too afraid.
[04:23] I'm not even going to lie. For those of
[04:25] you who do not want the race car focus,
[04:28] you can get the GT3 Touring package,
[04:31] which does add a little bit more
[04:32] comfort, and you still keep that
[04:34] naturally aspirated motor versus the
[04:36] turbocharged motor. For those of you
[04:37] with larger pockets, you can get the GT3
[04:40] RS. It is a wider body, three times, it
[04:44] has three times more downforce than the
[04:46] regular standard GT3 thanks to Arrow
[04:48] components. It also has an even larger
[04:51] spoiler because if you didn't think the
[04:53] GT3 spoiler was large, well, they got a
[04:56] freaking larger spoiler on this car,
[04:57] guys. The GT3 RS is meant to be even
[05:00] more capable on the track than just the
[05:03] base GT3. So, now you're seeing that the
[05:05] GT3 GT3 RS all focused on the track. But
[05:09] wait, Porsche has something else up
[05:12] their sleeve. They have the Porsche 911
[05:15] GT2 RS. The 2019 GT2 RS has 700
[05:19] horsepower. It takes that 3.8 L engine,
[05:22] adds a turbocharger on it, still adds
[05:24] even more race car components. This car
[05:26] has broken track records. So, that is
[05:28] the highest pinnacle of the 911 lineup.
[05:31] And next, I'm going to talk about
[05:32] special edition Porsches. But if you
[05:34] guys have made it this far in the video
[05:36] and you're finding it useful, please hit
[05:37] that like button down below. Really
[05:38] helps out the channel so much. Helps us
[05:40] get seen by more people on YouTube.
[05:42] Special edition Porsches. Every year or
[05:44] two, Porsche comes out with a different
[05:46] model, a new variant, something a little
[05:48] special, maybe something that is uh has
[05:51] lower production numbers or a nod to an
[05:54] older Porsche in their lineup. And they
[05:56] do this because at the end of the day,
[05:57] they are all still very unique and
[05:59] special. And that is something that
[06:01] brings owners to just ravage over these
[06:03] cars because they have a one of 30 in
[06:07] this certain color of this certain spec.
[06:09] Currently, Porsche has the 50th edition
[06:11] Porsche 911. Have the Porsche DAR, which
[06:14] is their lifted all-terrain racing
[06:16] model, and another racing heritage nod
[06:19] that consumers can buy. This one is very
[06:21] popular, very special. And also, they
[06:23] have the all-new Porsche 911 ST
[06:27] with 570 horsepower. I don't know too
[06:30] much about it. I'm not an expert on the
[06:32] S/T. It just came out. The black
[06:34] edition, this edition, that edition.
[06:35] They come out, they come out for a
[06:37] couple years. People could go buy them
[06:39] and then they're special. That's special
[06:41] edition Porsches. There's so many of
[06:43] them. Quick overview. Let us check your
[06:45] understanding so far from this video. If
[06:47] I told you that I have a target 4 GTS,
[06:49] you know that is the target top car with
[06:52] the four designating that is all-wheel
[06:54] drive and the GTS meaning that it is one
[06:56] of the sportier base Carreras or it has
[06:59] more horsepower and more racelike track
[07:02] like features than a base 911. So
[07:05] Carrera for GTS. If I told you that I
[07:07] have a Turbo S cabriolet, once again,
[07:10] you know that it is a turbo. You know,
[07:11] I'm going for a higher spec Porsche 911.
[07:14] It is the S. It is even faster than the
[07:17] base turbo and it is the Cabriolet,
[07:19] which means that it is the convertible
[07:22] version because you want to look good
[07:23] and you want to go fast. For the last
[07:25] part of this video, I'm going to talk
[07:27] about Porsche's internal designations.
[07:29] This gets asked all the time. So, when
[07:32] owners are talking about their 911, you
[07:34] don't want to say, "I have a 1967 911."
[07:36] You don't want to say that I have a 2013
[07:39] 911. Every time Porsche updates their
[07:41] lineup, they give their car a new
[07:43] internal designation. And this is what
[07:45] owners refer to in terms of their body
[07:47] styling. Get a general sense of when the
[07:49] car was produced. Eventually, as you're
[07:51] in the space, as you read more about it,
[07:53] as you're looking up cars, as you're
[07:55] thinking about what you want to buy,
[07:56] then it becomes more apparent. We had
[07:58] the classic 911. Then there was the
[08:01] Porsche 930. These go for a lot of
[08:03] money. They're really cool cars. Oh, and
[08:05] do not forget, we also have the Porsche
[08:08] 964 911. We have the Porsche 993 911. We
[08:14] have the controversial eggyed Porsche
[08:17] 996, which was produced from 1997. We
[08:20] have the sexy Porsche 997, which was
[08:23] made between 2004 and 2013. We have the
[08:27] 991.1
[08:28] which was the first version and the
[08:30] 991.2
[08:32] facelifted 911s which ran from 2011 to
[08:35] 2019. Some of the cars which have been
[08:37] produced within the last decade still
[08:39] very new still very modern. And finally
[08:42] where we are at today with the Porsche
[08:44] 992 911 the most modern newest Porsche
[08:48] 911s which we have right now. And
[08:50] depending on when you watch this video,
[08:52] there may be even more designations
[08:54] afterwards.
