Goku vs Saitama: The Ultimate Power Debate
45sOpens with the most iconic anime power debate, instantly hooking fans of both series.
▶ Play ClipThis video breaks down anime characters into seven power levels, from weaklings to omnipotent beings, using examples like Shinji Ikari, Ryuji, Hercule Satan, Yuji Itadori, Naruto and Sasuke, Goku and Vegeta, and Zeno.
Characters weaker than average humans, like Shinji Ikari, who lack combat abilities and often serve as comedic relief or emotional support.
Most humans in anime, with no special training or powers, like Ryuji from Toradora. They fight everyday challenges, not world-ending threats.
Characters at the peak of possible real-world human ability through extreme training, like Hercule Satan (in his own verse) and Levi Ackerman (without gear).
Superhuman characters with abilities beyond reality, like Yuji Itadori using cursed energy, Midoriya, and pre-time skip Straw Hat Pirates.
Characters capable of destroying planets, like Six Paths Naruto and Rinnegan Sasuke, and Krillin (Dragon Ball Super) due to the series' high power scaling.
Characters who can destroy universes, like Goku and Vegeta with transformations like Ultra Instinct, and Saitama.
Beings beyond physical metrics, like Zeno who can erase universes with a gesture, and the Anti-Spiral.
Anime power scaling has clear levels, from weak humans to omnipotent gods, with Dragon Ball characters dominating the higher tiers.
"Title accurately describes the content: a clear breakdown of seven power levels with examples."
What is the first level of anime power scaling?
Weaklings, characters weaker than average humans.
00:23
Name a character from Level 1 (Weaklings).
Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
00:50
What defines Level 2: Average Humans?
No intense training, special powers, or ki; most humans reside here.
01:54
Which character is the lead example for Level 3: Peak Realistic Human?
Mr. Hercule Satan from Dragon Ball.
02:59
What ability allows Yuji Itadori to be superhuman?
Cursed energy reinforcement, increasing speed, strength, and durability.
04:40
Which level includes planet busters?
Level 5.
05:28
Why is Krillin placed in Level 5 despite being a human?
Because Dragon Ball's power scaling is high; Krillin can keep up with base Goku and has the Destructo Disc.
06:41
What is the Destructo Disc's special property?
It slices opponents regardless of power difference, ignoring ki defense.
07:45
Name two characters from Level 6: Universal Threats.
Goku and Vegeta from Dragon Ball.
08:56
What ability allows Goku to dodge attacks subconsciously?
Ultra Instinct.
09:17
What is Zeno's power?
He can erase universes by lifting his hands.
10:23
Which level includes beings beyond speed, durability, and strength?
Level 7: Omnipotence.
09:44
Level 1: Weaklings defined
Establishes the baseline for power scaling with relatable weak characters.
00:23Hercule Satan's placement
Shows context matters: Satan is weak in Dragon Ball but peak human in his own right.
02:59Krillin as planet buster
Highlights how Dragon Ball's power scaling elevates even minor characters.
06:41Omnipotence level
Introduces characters beyond conventional power metrics, like Zeno.
09:44[00:00] We've all seen the debates. Goku vs.
[00:01] Saitama, Naruto vs. Luffy. But when we
[00:04] introduce characters powerful enough to
[00:06] delete timelines, as we'll see later,
[00:07] you learn there really is levels to
[00:09] this. When we break it down, what
[00:10] characters really are the most powerful
[00:12] of them all? What characters strongest
[00:13] in their own verse look like side
[00:15] characters compared to others? Where
[00:16] will your favorite character rank? Join
[00:18] me today as we break this down and
[00:20] discover the seven levels of anime
[00:21] power.
[00:23] Level one, weaklings. Starting at level
[00:25] one here, this is the weakest of the
[00:27] weak. Behind every planet-busting
[00:28] Saiyan, god-level being, and
[00:30] universe-saving superhero is a crowd of
[00:32] people who need that saving. Characters
[00:34] on this level are weaker than the
[00:35] average human. Whereas these characters
[00:36] might have brilliant minds or emotional
[00:38] support, maybe even comedic relief, or
[00:40] have any of the other redeeming
[00:41] qualities, you put them in a boxing ring
[00:43] with Hobo Dave over here and you better
[00:45] hope there's no spare change in their
[00:46] pockets he can steal once he knocks them
[00:48] out. A perfect example of this level is
[00:50] Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis
[00:51] Evangelion. Obviously, outside of the
[00:53] Eva. Shinji's a kid. He's also not in a
[00:55] verse where humans have any sort of
[00:57] special powers. He's barely 2 years into
[00:59] his teenage years, and if you round up,
[01:00] probably only 110 lb soaking wet.
[01:02] Whereas he is chosen as an Eva pilot due
[01:04] to his compatibility, the most athletic
[01:06] thing I've seen him do is fall while
[01:07] playing Twister. On top of this, he's
[01:09] fighting off breakdowns every 5 minutes,
[01:11] earning Shinji the coveted spot of
[01:12] poster boy for this level. But hey,
[01:14] against what many might think, there's
[01:16] nothing wrong with being on this level.
[01:17] Without level one characters, beings in
[01:19] the higher levels would be less
[01:20] impressive, so we have them to thank for
[01:22] that. Some other examples of this
[01:23] include Coby from the beginning of One
[01:25] Piece, Okarun from the beginning of
[01:26] Dandadan, this bunny girl from Beastars,
[01:29] and these anime babies. I also want to
[01:30] add in farmer from the beginning of
[01:32] Dragon Ball Z, minus the shotgun, of
[01:34] course. What's your power level, little
[01:36] human?
[01:37] Five, huh? PROTECT ME, GOOD.
[01:40] HEY, NO. BAD HUMAN.
[01:43] DAMN IT, I'M GOING TO BUSH.
[01:46] BAD. NOW, get back up and tell me you're
[01:49] sorry.
[01:50] Human?
[01:52] Human.
[01:54] Level two, average humans. On the level
[01:56] two, we come across the most saturated
[01:58] level, that being the average human
[02:00] power level. No intense training, no
[02:02] special gimmicks, no quirky powers, no
[02:04] ki or inner energy, this level is where
[02:06] most humans reside. 99% of us in real
[02:08] life would fall into this tier. Examples
[02:10] of this level can be found in every
[02:11] anime. Background characters, side
[02:13] characters, and even most main
[02:14] characters if you look past shonen,
[02:16] you'll find them here. These characters
[02:17] aren't fighting to save the world,
[02:19] they're fighting their alarm clocks and
[02:20] homework due dates. My pick for the lead
[02:22] of this level is Ryuji from Toradora.
[02:24] Ryuji doesn't do any fighting throughout
[02:26] his anime. In fact, this guy's the one
[02:27] taking the beating most of the time. At
[02:29] least that shows his durability. Ryuji
[02:31] is strong enough to weather a snowstorm
[02:33] and carry Taiga on his back. So, this
[02:35] earns him a solid spot in the average
[02:36] human tier. Others on this level include
[02:38] Kaguya Shinomiya from Love is War, Light
[02:40] Yagami from Death Note, and even Tanjiro
[02:42] Kamado from Demon Slayer.
[02:45] Before training, of course.
[02:47] Level three. Peak realistic human
[02:49] ability. On our next level is the peak
[02:51] of power that could be achievable in the
[02:52] real world, albeit borderline
[02:54] impossible. Just absurd amounts of
[02:56] discipline, talent, and years of
[02:57] training. My favorite example for this
[02:59] level is Mr. Hercule Satan. Well, well,
[03:01] well. I hear what some of you are
[03:02] probably screaming at me for right now.
[03:04] Mr. Satan, isn't his gag about being
[03:06] weak? And to that I say, yes, but he's
[03:09] weak for the Dragon Ball verse. Compared
[03:11] to Goku, Mr. Satan loses to his aura
[03:13] alone. Police officer Krillin? Yeah, Mr.
[03:15] Satan is toast. But compared to other
[03:17] non-ki trained humans, Mr. Satan clears.
[03:20] Unless saiyan, child saiyan, ki trained
[03:22] human, android, or evil sea cucumbers
[03:24] are present, this guy is winning the
[03:26] World Martial Arts Tournament, which is
[03:27] a one-on-one tournament featuring the
[03:29] strongest fighter from across the world.
[03:31] Also, don't forget, he was the one who
[03:32] beat Perfect Cell. Despite it not being
[03:34] realistic as this level's title
[03:35] suggests, I would also throw lower level
[03:37] characters who make up for their power
[03:38] gap from the top of this tier with
[03:40] powers. Nothing crazy, of course, just
[03:42] small boosts that help them level the
[03:43] playing field. I'm thinking of someone
[03:44] like Mineta from My Hero Academia. He's
[03:47] far from a master of martial arts,
[03:49] doesn't have years of training, yet his
[03:50] sticky ball quirk can help him close the
[03:52] power gap with someone like Hercule.
[03:53] Other than him in this level, I would
[03:55] include Ayanakoji from Classroom of the
[03:57] Elite. And at the peak of this tier,
[03:58] Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan,
[04:00] minus his swords and ODM gear, of
[04:02] course.
[04:03] Level four, powered humans.
[04:05] This is the first level where the
[04:06] fictional properties of anime can bring
[04:08] us to a level of power that non-fiction
[04:10] simply cannot touch. The characters in
[04:12] this tier are superhuman plus. While
[04:13] humans at their core, abilities,
[04:15] transformations, supernatural boosts,
[04:17] and other things of that nature,
[04:18] alongside their training, push them into
[04:20] this tier. This is the level where
[04:21] characters start to feel like
[04:22] superheroes. My choice for the face of
[04:24] this tier is none other than Yuji
[04:25] Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen. At the
[04:27] beginning of JJK, Yuji is an
[04:29] athletically gifted person, but at the
[04:31] end of the day, still a high school kid.
[04:33] After getting a boost in power from
[04:34] Sukuna's fingers, he's able to achieve
[04:36] power past that what of a regular human
[04:38] could do due to his new ability to
[04:40] access and utilize cursed energy. Using
[04:42] cursed energy reinforcement, Yuji is
[04:44] able to increase his speed, strength,
[04:45] durability, and other physical stats,
[04:47] putting him easily above what is
[04:49] achievable by normal humans. Now, as we
[04:51] go along, I want you to know that there
[04:52] are scales within these levels. Not
[04:54] everyone on this level, or any level for
[04:56] that matter, is going to be equal in
[04:57] power. Especially as we get into the
[04:59] weeds of different versions of
[05:00] characters and all that. Just keep this
[05:02] in mind. Do you think a character I
[05:03] mentioned belongs on a different tier?
[05:05] Did I miss one of your favorites? Make
[05:06] sure to comment that down below. And
[05:08] hey, while you're down there typing out
[05:09] your comments, please make sure you
[05:11] subscribe as only 2% of you watching
[05:12] are. Thank you. Now, back to level four,
[05:14] there are a lot of characters that fit
[05:16] in here. I would include the likes of
[05:17] Midoriya and some of his strongest
[05:18] classmates from My Hero Academia, Gon
[05:21] and Killua from Hunter x Hunter, and the
[05:22] Straw Hat Pirates pre-time skip,
[05:24] emphasis on pre-time skip, from One
[05:26] Piece.
[05:28] Level five, planet busters. As we move
[05:30] further and further into our more
[05:32] powerful characters, level five is where
[05:34] things really get serious. Whereas these
[05:35] characters are not on universal
[05:37] destruction or even god level, this is
[05:39] where we first get into our planet
[05:40] busters. These characters are on the
[05:42] power level of threatening planetary
[05:43] destruction. From attacks so fast they
[05:45] can't be observed by the human eye. To
[05:47] durability so fortified they could have
[05:49] buildings crash down on them and still
[05:50] come out scratch free. To strength so
[05:52] large it's planet busting. Despite all
[05:54] this hyping up, these characters are on
[05:56] level five for a reason and not higher.
[05:57] Despite how crazy it sounds, there are
[05:59] larger tests of strengths out there than
[06:01] the ability to destroy a singular
[06:02] planet. These characters still have
[06:04] limits. Whether it be stamina,
[06:05] abilities, or just straight up skill,
[06:07] there are still levels to this. The
[06:09] characters the front man for this level
[06:10] is six path sage mode Naruto and
[06:12] Rinnegan Sasuke. Basically the strongest
[06:15] version of these characters from
[06:16] Shippuden. Hyped up on insane levels of
[06:18] nine tail chakra from the strongest of
[06:20] the tailed beast, as well as the six
[06:21] paths sage mode granted by one of the
[06:23] Naruto versus most powerful beings.
[06:26] Alongside a Sasuke who has access to the
[06:27] Rinnegan, the most powerful of the
[06:29] Uchiha jutsu, as well as his perfect
[06:31] Susanoo, a giant power ranger type robot
[06:34] looking suit made out of pure energy.
[06:36] These two fight and beat what is
[06:37] essentially the god level being in their
[06:39] own verse. Now alongside them, I want to
[06:41] throw in Krillin from Dragon Ball Super
[06:42] specifically into this tier. Whoa, whoa,
[06:44] whoa. Stop yelling and stop typing out
[06:46] that hate comment and listen. I know
[06:48] those of you who haven't seen Dragon
[06:50] Ball, or maybe even some of you who
[06:51] have, are fuming. Krillin? The human
[06:53] with no transformations? The one who is
[06:55] essentially the laughing stock of the
[06:57] Dragon Ball verse? Behind Yamcha? Yep,
[06:59] the Dragon Ball universe in general is
[07:01] just on a whole 'nother level of power.
[07:03] Even all the way back to the beginning
[07:04] of Dragon Ball Z, we had characters on
[07:06] this planetary level. Vegeta, Nappa are
[07:08] obvious examples, but look even just at
[07:10] Piccolo here who is weaker than Goku. He
[07:12] destroys the moon with one key blast
[07:14] just to stop Gohan's transformation. Now
[07:16] many people point out this scene as
[07:17] being an outlier in early Dragon Ball
[07:19] power leveling, and that's probably
[07:21] true. But this was still early Dragon
[07:22] Ball Z where everyone was way weaker
[07:24] than they are now. Krillin has spent his
[07:26] whole life training, minus some years he
[07:27] took off for police officer duty, but
[07:29] he's still strong enough to keep up with
[07:31] base form Goku way later on in Dragon
[07:33] Ball Super. He's also chosen as one of
[07:34] the 10 strongest Universe 7 fighters for
[07:36] the Tournament of Power, and he's not
[07:38] even the weakest in that lineup. And if
[07:39] we want to talk abilities, Krillin has
[07:41] arguably the most hacks ability in all
[07:43] of Dragon Ball. That being the Kienzan
[07:45] or Destructo Disc. Most energy blasts in
[07:47] Dragon Ball are about overwhelming your
[07:48] opponent with immense amounts of ki.
[07:50] Krillin's just slices you in half, even
[07:51] opponents multiple times stronger than
[07:53] him. Just look at Vegeta telling Nappa
[07:55] not to get hit by this blast, even
[07:56] though Nappa was toying with him just
[07:58] seconds before. I will say that the
[07:59] opponent can't be way out of his league,
[08:01] or the blast will have no effect on
[08:02] their strong, thick,
[08:04] meaty perfect
[08:08] uh um neck. Also, Frieza in the Namek
[08:11] saga destroyed the planet in the
[08:13] infamous five-minute scene, and
[08:14] modern-day Krillin is immensely more
[08:16] powerful than that. Even humans in the
[08:18] Dragon Ball franchise grow at
[08:19] exponential rates when it comes to their
[08:21] power.
[08:22] Level six, universal threats. On to our
[08:24] sixth level here, we have universal
[08:26] threats. Despite this level's name
[08:28] sounding ominous, it just means these
[08:30] characters have the power to destroy
[08:31] universes if they so desire. When it
[08:33] comes to fights, these characters are
[08:35] undoubtedly the best in their field.
[08:36] Now, I hear you saying, "But this is
[08:38] only level six. What do you mean by
[08:39] that?" Well, you'll see when we move on.
[08:41] From speed so fast fighters look like
[08:43] they're standing still, to durability so
[08:45] stable they could be crushed in between
[08:46] planets, and I would feel sorry for the
[08:48] planets, to strength so powerful they
[08:50] could destroy entire planets with
[08:52] singular punches, we are truly at the
[08:54] universal level of power. My choice for
[08:56] this tier is Goku and Vegeta from Dragon
[08:58] Ball. I swear I could have a Dragon Ball
[08:59] character for every level. These
[09:01] characters don't need introductions.
[09:03] They have fights so intense they destroy
[09:05] planets. Abilities so busted they have
[09:07] multiple transformations that multiply
[09:09] their power. Not just add on to it,
[09:11] multiply. They're at the point in Dragon
[09:13] Ball Super where they're fighting,
[09:14] training, and learning from literal gods
[09:16] and angels. From Ultra Instinct, an
[09:18] ability that allows Goku to dodge
[09:20] attacks subconsciously, to Ultra Ego, an
[09:22] ability that allows Vegeta to get
[09:24] stronger when he takes more damage, to a
[09:26] genuine love for the game that allows
[09:27] them to devote their whole lives to
[09:28] fighting, these two are perfect examples
[09:30] for peak warriors. There are a lot more
[09:32] Dragon Ball characters I could put on
[09:34] this level, so I'll restrain in that
[09:35] sense. Other characters I have on this
[09:37] tier are Kaguya Otsutsuki from Naruto,
[09:39] Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling, and
[09:41] Saitama from One Punch Man.
[09:44] Level seven, omnipotence. And here we
[09:46] are at the peak of our climb with level
[09:48] seven, omnipotence. At the start of each
[09:51] level I've gone on and on about all the
[09:52] things that show these characters power,
[09:54] speed, durability, strength, and such.
[09:57] Well, characters on this level are above
[09:58] those metrics. What is speed when you
[10:00] can be wherever you want, whenever you
[10:02] want? What is durability when no one can
[10:04] hurt you? What is strength when you
[10:05] don't even need to punch? My lead
[10:07] example for this level is none other
[10:09] than Zeno from Dragon Ball Super. Beerus
[10:11] is a god of destruction. Whis is an
[10:13] angel guardian. The Grand Minister,
[10:15] stronger than all of them, is the
[10:16] personal aid to Zeno. Zeno is a small
[10:19] child-like being. Yet, in his presence,
[10:21] these characters quake in fear. Zeno's
[10:23] fearsome power can be seen multiple
[10:24] times throughout Dragon Ball Super. From
[10:26] erasing multiple universes during the
[10:28] Tournament of Power to erasing universes
[10:30] overrun with evil, all Zeno has to do is
[10:32] lift both his hands. Other characters
[10:35] that belong on this level include the
[10:36] Truth from Fullmetal Alchemist, Kami
[10:38] Tenchi from Tenchi Muyo, and the
[10:40] Anti-Spiral from Gurren Lagann. Now, I
[10:42] haven't seen every anime. There's plenty
[10:43] of characters out there that I missed.
