AI Summary

This video explains how to read manga correctly, focusing on the right-to-left and top-to-bottom reading rules. It uses simple charts and examples from popular manga like Demon Slayer and Naruto to help new readers avoid common mistakes.

[0:44]
Basic Reading Order

Manga is read from right to left, starting at the top-right panel and moving down the column before shifting left.

[1:36]
Handling Adjacent Panels

When panels are in the same row, read them top to bottom; when they are side by side, read right to left.

[2:57]
Example from Demon Slayer

Using a page from Demon Slayer, the video demonstrates starting with the top-right panel, then moving down within the same column before going left.

[4:28]
Example from Naruto

A Naruto panel shows reading right to left and top to bottom, with panels in the same row read vertically.

[5:25]
Quiz Example

A quiz panel is presented to test understanding, with the correct order being 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 following the two rules.

Mastering the two core rules—right to left and top to bottom—makes reading manga intuitive with practice. The more you read, the more natural it becomes.

[00:00] winter 2021 had a huge impact on anime

[00:03] as a whole

[00:04] especially making it become more

[00:06] mainstream now

[00:08] if that's a bad or good thing we won't

[00:10] get into today

[00:11] but one blatant fact is that more people

[00:14] are buying manga than ever

[00:16] and for those new readers being used to

[00:18] reading from left to right

[00:20] manga is read from right to left with

[00:22] many other rules

[00:23] today i'm gonna tell you how to read

[00:25] your favorite manga correctly so you

[00:26] don't look like a total idiot

[00:28] and it's actually enjoyable to read as

[00:30] always if you like this video

[00:32] then make sure to click those little

[00:35] clickable

[00:36] subscribe and like buttons that are

[00:38] always waiting to be pressed

[00:40] that's it for me and enjoy the video

[00:44] to begin we have this little chart now

[00:47] this might look simple

[00:48] but i'll make it even more simple for

[00:50] you to understand

[00:52] as you can see it starts off one from

[00:55] the right

[00:56] two then it goes down a row three then

[00:59] it goes to the little boxes

[01:00] four five six seven

[01:04] now this is pretty straightforward and

[01:06] you're probably like

[01:07] why do you need to explain this but yes

[01:10] this is because it goes

[01:11] right to left now the only part where i

[01:14] could see

[01:15] you'll be a little bit confused about is

[01:18] a four and five

[01:20] after that big row of three you will go

[01:23] down to four and five

[01:24] because it's the first one underneath it

[01:26] it's just like reading a book

[01:28] when you're reading left to right you

[01:30] don't skip a line and then go down to

[01:32] the next one

[01:32] you always go down to the one right

[01:34] underneath it

[01:36] so that's where you go four or five

[01:38] because they're next to each other

[01:40] six seven one thing i always like to do

[01:44] whenever i'm confused is if you see four

[01:47] and five

[01:47] you're like wait a second do i read four

[01:49] and then go to six

[01:51] no you don't do that because if you look

[01:53] at six that long box

[01:55] takes up the whole space or it goes

[01:57] practically around

[01:58] the width of four and five

[02:02] so i that's how i say you remember it

[02:04] but

[02:05] again always start with the little boxes

[02:08] and if

[02:08] it's like that go down and then finally

[02:11] go

[02:12] over to the left here's another simple

[02:15] graph

[02:16] again you go one two three four

[02:19] as you can see but then here's the

[02:23] problem where many people mess up on

[02:25] after five you see six and seven

[02:28] many people would go six and then eight

[02:31] now this is not the case because

[02:34] i think the best way to describe it is

[02:36] if there's two

[02:38] images or two panels right next to each

[02:40] other

[02:41] just go straight right to left if

[02:43] they're right next to each other

[02:45] but in this case they are right next to

[02:47] each other so again you would go

[02:50] right to left but then you go eight

[02:52] because you have to

[02:53] apply the same rule of top to bottom

[02:57] as an example we can use the first page

[03:00] from demon slayer

[03:01] you probably already know that you would

[03:03] start with panel number one

[03:06] and then two now you would not go two

[03:09] to the next panel to the left you would

[03:11] go two three

[03:12] or the panel right underneath it because

[03:15] it's the same rule

[03:16] top to bottom when they're inside the

[03:18] same row

[03:19] so when they're inside the same row just

[03:21] go along with it either top to bottom or

[03:23] right to left it should be pretty

[03:24] self-explanatory when you're reading

[03:27] after you go two three then you can

[03:30] finally go over left

[03:32] to your big brother or four here's a

[03:35] very simple one

[03:36] all you do is go one two three four

[03:40] five six this one is straightforward

[03:42] again right left

[03:44] top bottom those rules will just make

[03:46] you glide through these pages

[03:49] now this one might look a little hard

[03:51] but as long as you use

[03:53] the two rules that i explained you

[03:54] should be fine you start with our life

[03:57] isn't easy

[03:58] or one because it's on the complete

[04:00] right

[04:01] and it practically at the top of the

[04:02] page then

[04:04] you go to two three four

[04:07] because those things use a top to bottom

[04:10] rule

[04:11] and as you can see those things are

[04:12] practically inside the same line

[04:14] even though they are separated panels so

[04:16] you read them

[04:17] just down and also this one's pretty

[04:19] easy because there's no picture to the

[04:21] left of it

[04:22] but again one two three four

[04:25] and then five the one at the bottom

[04:28] now we have a panel from naruto this one

[04:30] should also be pretty easy

[04:32] but again right to left top to bottom

[04:36] you would start with one two three four

[04:40] and then five six seven because again

[04:44] six and seven are inside the same row or

[04:46] they're practically straight

[04:48] from each other so that's why you go top

[04:50] to bottom

[04:51] six seven and then you know naruto on

[04:54] eight

[04:56] here's our last example and this i'm

[04:58] showing this because

[05:00] it has that big picture in the

[05:01] background you would start with the big

[05:03] picture in the graph background

[05:05] then use a top to bottom rule to go the

[05:08] pictures that

[05:09] are taking up the background so it would

[05:11] go

[05:12] one two three and then

[05:16] four five six again this one should be

[05:20] fairly simple

[05:20] but i just wanted to put it in there

[05:22] just in case you're confused

[05:25] here's an example that we're going to be

[05:27] using as a quiz

[05:28] pause the video here and try and scout

[05:30] out what you think would be the order of

[05:32] this

[05:35] now that you have that done it would go

[05:37] one

[05:38] two three four five six

[05:41] it would be two three four because of

[05:43] the top to bottom rule

[05:45] and i know i've been saying this so much

[05:47] but again this is very important to

[05:49] understand and it's very important to

[05:51] understand that there's practically two

[05:53] rules that will

[05:55] practically get you through reading

[05:56] manga the right to left rule

[05:58] and the top to bottom rule and not to

[06:01] mention

[06:02] that again if there's specific panels or

[06:04] separate panels

[06:05] inside a row then you should read them

[06:08] in a row with one of those rules

[06:11] overall the more manga you read the

[06:13] better you'll get at it

[06:15] so as long as you just keep on reading

[06:17] and keep on practicing

[06:18] you'll be reading it like it's a regular

[06:20] book i hope this helped you

[06:23] and i hope to see you in the next one
