AI Summary

YouTube's latest algorithm update prioritizes Shorts over long-form content, even on desktop. To grow in 2026, creators must adapt by ranking Shorts for search, optimizing metadata, using strong calls-to-action, and monetizing through related long-form videos.

[00:00]
Algorithm Update Overview

YouTube's new algorithm update affects all of YouTube, not just Shorts. Creators need to adapt to get more views, subscribers, and monetization in 2026.

[00:26]
Shorts Dominate Homepage and Search

On the YouTube homepage, more Shorts are shown than long-form videos, even on desktop. In search results, Shorts often outrank long-form content in views.

[02:30]
Ranking for Search with Shorts

Creators must rank Shorts for search because Shorts appear more on mobile and are referenced by LLMs like Gemini and ChatGPT. Key factors: metadata (keyword in title once, description twice, tags 5+ times) and keyword research.

[03:48]
VidIQ as a Secret Weapon

VidIQ helps optimize metadata and discover keywords. It offers AI-powered title, description, and tag suggestions, plus keyword research with search volume and competition data.

[05:46]
Turning Viewers into Subscribers

A call-to-action in videos can achieve 2-5% conversion rate. Example: a video with 1.7M views and a CTA gained 34K subscribers, while a similar video without a CTA gained only 4K.

[07:38]
Monetizing Shorts via Related Videos

Use Shorts to drive traffic to a short long-form video (2 min) that pitches a product, affiliate offer, or program. Reply to comments to increase conversions.

To succeed on YouTube in 2026, creators must prioritize Shorts, optimize for search, use effective CTAs, and monetize by funneling Shorts viewers to long-form content with offers.

[00:00] YouTube just released a brand new

[00:01] algorithm update for YouTube Shorts. And

[00:03] this doesn't only affect YouTube Shorts,

[00:04] this affects all of YouTube. So, you

[00:06] need to make sure that you're adapting

[00:08] to the new strategies for how to get

[00:09] more views, how to get more subscribers,

[00:11] and ultimately how to monetize your

[00:12] YouTube in 2026. And don't worry because

[00:15] I'm going to walk you through the five

[00:16] changes you need to make right now in

[00:18] this video that just helped this

[00:19] creator, this creator, and this creator

[00:21] all gain over 100,000 subscribers. And

[00:23] they're going to help you, too, so long

[00:25] as you don't skip any of them. Change

[00:26] number one is you need to understand

[00:28] what direction YouTube is actually going

[00:30] in. And in order to show this to you, I

[00:32] wanted to show you what YouTube looks

[00:33] like now. Okay. So, here's what I really

[00:36] want to emphasize to you. If we come

[00:37] over here to the YouTube homepage right

[00:39] here, what you are going to notice, the

[00:40] first thing that I am getting shown are

[00:42] three videos right here, long form

[00:44] videos. And two of these, guess what?

[00:46] Are non-sponsored videos. This one is a

[00:49] sponsored video. And then the rest of

[00:50] the content that shows up here is going

[00:52] to be shorts. And guess what? I don't

[00:54] even engage with shorts. I don't watch

[00:56] shorts. And then if we come down a

[00:57] little bit more, we're going to see more

[00:58] long form. We're going to see more long

[01:00] form and then more shorts. And if we

[01:02] look at this, what you're going to

[01:03] notice is there are more shorts getting

[01:05] shown to people than long form content.

[01:08] And guess what? This is on a computer.

[01:10] If you come over to a mobile device,

[01:12] it's even worse. People are getting

[01:13] shown more shorts. Now, I'm not saying

[01:15] that it's worse in the case that this is

[01:17] bad for YouTube. I'm saying it's worse

[01:19] in the case that you're only uploading

[01:21] long- form content. Now, let's say that

[01:23] we come over here and we do a search for

[01:25] something. For example, how to add text

[01:27] in video cap cut. Now, what you're going

[01:29] to see is that when we do a search for

[01:31] this, one long form video gets shown and

[01:33] then the rest of the content that's

[01:35] going to show here is going to be

[01:36] shorts. And I want you to look at

[01:38] something right here because this will

[01:39] actually tell you what people are

[01:41] actually clicking on, what people are

[01:42] actually watching. This long form video

[01:44] ranking number one literally by Cap Cut

[01:47] has 89,000 views. This video almost

[01:50] 550,000. This video 430,000. This video

[01:55] 460,000. This video 568,000.

[01:58] This video 28,000. If we come in here

[02:01] 393,000,

[02:03] 68,000 3 million. So what kind of

[02:05] content do you think that people are

[02:07] actually watching when they go to search

[02:09] for something? They are not watching

[02:10] this long form content anymore. They are

[02:12] now watching shorts. And you need to

[02:14] make sure that in 2026 you are doubling

[02:17] down not only on ranking for search with

[02:20] YouTube shorts but also that you are

[02:22] doubling down on uploading more YouTube

[02:24] shorts. In fact, the biggest creators on

[02:27] the platform are now prioritizing this.

[02:29] Now change number two is you need to

[02:31] make sure that you begin ranking for

[02:32] search with YouTube shorts. And there

[02:34] are several reasons that you need to do

[02:35] this. One short show up more than

[02:37] anything else on mobile devices. two

[02:39] LLMs like Google Gemini, Chat, Chippy,

[02:41] Claude, they actually go through and

[02:43] reference shorts more than long form

[02:45] content because in a lot of cases shorts

[02:47] deliver on the promise a lot earlier.

[02:49] Now, if you want to rank for search

[02:51] right now, there's essentially two

[02:52] things that you need to be focused on

[02:54] and I want to walk you through exactly

[02:55] what these things are because one of

[02:57] them is going to be the metadata on your

[02:58] post and the second is going to be

[03:00] making sure that you're using keyword

[03:02] research the right way. Now, the first

[03:04] key to being able to rank for search

[03:05] with YouTube Shorts is you need to make

[03:07] sure that you have your metadata set up

[03:09] correctly. If we come over here, this

[03:10] video right here is ranking for YouTube

[03:13] settings. And the reason that it's

[03:14] ranking for YouTube settings is if I do

[03:16] control find and I type in YouTube

[03:18] setting, you're going to notice that

[03:19] shows up one time in the title that

[03:22] shows up two times in the description. I

[03:24] have YouTube setting right here. And

[03:26] then I also have YouTube settings in the

[03:28] next sentence. So, if you want your

[03:30] stuff to actually rank on YouTube

[03:33] search, you need to make sure that one,

[03:34] the keyword shows once in the title.

[03:37] Two, the keyword shows twice in the

[03:39] description. And if we come down here to

[03:41] the tags, you're going to notice that it

[03:43] shows more than five times. And you need

[03:45] to make sure that the same exact thing

[03:47] is happening in your content. Now, one

[03:48] of my secret weapons for being able to

[03:50] do this is Vid IQ. In fact, that's

[03:51] what's giving me these title suggestions

[03:53] right here. That's what's giving me this

[03:55] description suggestion. And that's

[03:56] what's telling me exactly what tags I

[03:58] should be putting in my video because

[04:00] Vid IQ allows you to very easily use AI

[04:03] in order to figure out exactly what

[04:05] title, what description, what tags you

[04:07] should be using for specific keywords.

[04:09] In fact, if we come over here into the

[04:11] description details right here, what we

[04:13] could actually see is that if we click

[04:15] on this, we could tell it what our video

[04:17] is about, what our target keyword is,

[04:19] what emotion we want, and this actually

[04:20] goes through and then optimizes all

[04:22] those different things for us to be able

[04:25] to rank for search. In addition to that,

[04:26] if we come over to vidiq.com and we come

[04:29] over here to discover, you're going to

[04:30] see keywords right here. And what this

[04:33] is going to show us is exactly how many

[04:35] people are searching for things. For

[04:36] example, if I type in faceless

[04:38] Instagram, we can see 10,000 people are

[04:40] searching for this a month. This then

[04:41] gives me related keywords. It gives me

[04:43] questions around this. It gives me

[04:45] matching keywords. And this is going to

[04:47] tell me how easy it's going to be to

[04:49] rank for this term and how many people

[04:51] are actually going to be searching for

[04:52] it. In addition to that, if we scroll

[04:54] down right here, this is then going to

[04:55] show us all the different trending video

[04:57] down here that we could actually make

[05:00] content like. And as you can see, there

[05:02] are tons of videos. And then basically

[05:03] all you're doing is creating content

[05:05] with the title or the description or the

[05:09] thumbnail or on the topic. And then

[05:11] guess what that does? It increase the

[05:12] odds that you're going to be able to

[05:14] rank for search. And Vid IQ is a secret

[05:16] weapon to being able to figure that all

[05:17] really easily from one dashboard. The

[05:21] best part about Vid IQ is you could go

[05:22] to the pin comment below right now and

[05:23] get started with it today for only $1.

[05:25] This is an exclusive offer for my

[05:27] audience. And guess what? I would have

[05:28] never gained over 800,000 subscribers if

[05:30] it wasn't for Vid IQ. Because my secret

[05:32] to growing has been ranking for search

[05:34] and Vid IQ is the only tool that makes

[05:36] this incredibly easy to do. Not only

[05:38] because they do the keyword research,

[05:40] but also because they help you fix your

[05:42] metadata. So, what are you waiting for?

[05:43] Go to the pin comment below and register

[05:45] for it right now. Now, the next thing

[05:46] you need to make sure you're doing is

[05:48] you need to make sure that you're

[05:49] actually turning your viewers into

[05:51] subscribers because not only is this

[05:52] going to get you your 100K plaque or

[05:54] your million plaque a lot quicker than

[05:56] if you didn't do it, it's also going to

[05:58] help your videos get pushed out more.

[06:00] And here's the perfect way to do it. So,

[06:02] when it comes to actually getting

[06:03] subscribers from your viewers, you need

[06:05] to make sure you have a call to action

[06:06] in your content. You need to make sure

[06:08] that you're getting anywhere from a 2 to

[06:09] 5% conversion rate. So, if you get 1,000

[06:12] views, you should get 2 to 5% of

[06:14] followers from that, which is going to

[06:16] be anywhere from 20 to 50 subscribers

[06:18] from just 1,000 views. Now, if we come

[06:21] into my content, this is literally gets

[06:23] really obvious when I've used it and

[06:25] when I don't. So, if we click on this

[06:26] video right here, we can see 1.7 million

[06:28] views. This video gained me 34,000

[06:31] subscribers. Now, if we come down a

[06:33] little bit, let's say that we look at

[06:34] this video right here that got a million

[06:35] views. This one only got me 4,000

[06:37] subscribers. And the sole reason for

[06:39] that is because I did not put a call to

[06:41] action in this video. And in the other

[06:43] video, I had a call to action. Now, to

[06:45] double down what I was showing you

[06:47] earlier, I want to point something out.

[06:48] If we look at this video right here, 1.9

[06:51] million views. This video is getting

[06:52] almost all of its traffic from search.

[06:54] If we come over to this video right

[06:56] here, 1.7 million views. Once again,

[06:59] most of its traffic from search. If we

[07:01] come over to this video right here, 1.6

[07:03] million views, most of the traffic

[07:04] coming from search. If we come into this

[07:06] video right here, again, 1.3 million

[07:08] views, most of the traffic from search.

[07:10] So essentially, what you're trying to do

[07:12] is rank for search on YouTube, have a

[07:14] good call to action at the end, and that

[07:16] needs to be related to whatever the goal

[07:18] of your viewers are. For example, if I

[07:19] look at all of these shorts right here

[07:21] that have gotten over a million views,

[07:22] they're all about growing faster on

[07:24] YouTube. So, what I would do is simply

[07:25] just end the video in the last 3 seconds

[07:27] and say, "If you want to grow faster on

[07:29] YouTube, hit that subscribe button." And

[07:30] then 2 to 5% of the people that watch

[07:33] that video are going to hit that. That's

[07:34] why I've been able to gain so many

[07:36] subscribers. Now, the last thing that we

[07:38] need to cover now that you know how to

[07:40] get more views, how to get more reach,

[07:41] and how to turn those views into

[07:43] subscribers is how you actually monetize

[07:45] YouTube shorts. And I actually found out

[07:46] this method years ago, but I'm going to

[07:48] tell you about it today. Okay. So, if we

[07:51] look at my YouTube content, here's how

[07:52] I'm actually doing this. If we come over

[07:54] here and we type in Robert Benjamin,

[07:56] what we're going to see is that several

[07:59] different shorts pop up. For example,

[08:00] this one right here, how to go viral on

[08:02] Tik Tok. If we click on this video right

[08:03] here, what you are going to notice is if

[08:06] I pause it, we are pointing out to this

[08:09] related video right here. And if we skip

[08:10] to the end of the video, I say that if

[08:12] you want to get started with this, click

[08:14] this video here. And then if we click

[08:16] over here, what you're going to notice

[08:17] is that this is a long form video. But

[08:19] more importantly, this is a super short

[08:22] long- form video. It's only 2 minutes

[08:23] long. And we could see right here that

[08:25] I've driven a few thousand views to this

[08:27] video. And essentially, the only point

[08:29] of this video is to get people to click

[08:31] the link in the description here or to

[08:33] click the link in the pin comment. And

[08:35] guess what? This is actually driving

[08:37] additional signups for this tool right

[08:39] here, Metricool. And I'm not only using

[08:41] it for sponsorship deals, I'm also using

[08:44] it for other stuff. Now, something you

[08:45] want to make sure that you're doing when

[08:46] you're actually implementing a strategy

[08:48] like this is you want to make sure that

[08:49] you're coming through and replying to

[08:51] every single one of these comments right

[08:52] here because guess what that does? It

[08:53] increases the odds that people actually

[08:55] end up going with this. Now, if we come

[08:57] over to another one of my videos that

[08:59] I've uploaded, for example, this one

[09:00] right here, 1.9 million views. We could

[09:02] see that if I click on the related

[09:04] video, it's going to bring us over here.

[09:05] Now, look at this video. This one has

[09:07] gotten over 50,000 views. And again, we

[09:09] could see that the goal of this is to

[09:11] drive people to my programs right here.

[09:14] And this is exactly what you should be

[09:15] doing. Whether it's for sponsorship

[09:17] deals, affiliate offers, for your own

[09:19] program, you should be using a related

[09:21] video that's going to have a pitch in

[09:22] it. And then you can actually put a pin

[09:24] comment in here because you can't put a

[09:25] comment in YouTube shorts, but this is a

[09:27] way for you to still get a lot of views

[09:29] from YouTube Shorts, drive that traffic

[09:32] over to long form and be able to

[09:34] monetize people. Now, if you're still

[09:36] struggling to grow on YouTube, it's

[09:37] probably because one, you just haven't

[09:38] implemented the things I shared with you

[09:40] in this video, or two, you need some

[09:41] personalized one-on-one help. That's

[09:43] exactly what I want to offer you. In

[09:44] fact, I want to help you grow faster on

[09:45] YouTube by telling you everything you

[09:47] need to do differently. what to do

[09:48] differently with your titles, what kind

[09:50] of content you should create, how you

[09:51] should fix your videos, and so much

[09:53] more. If that sounds interesting, well,

[09:54] please check out this video right here

[09:56] that walks you through three different

[09:57] ways we can work together one-on-one,

[09:59] and I can help you grow faster on

[10:00] YouTube the same exact way I help this

[10:01] creator, this creator, and this creator

[10:03] skyrocket their growth. I'll see you

[10:05] over there.
