What is a VTuber?

A VTuber uses a virtual avatar instead of their real face, enabled by tracking technology, for reasons like anonymity, role play, or becoming an anime character.

Character Concept

Start by writing down your character's concept and creating a reference sheet using images found online, even if you can't draw.

Find artists and riggers (parents) on Twitter, Fiverr, or Discord communities like the Live2D server. Take time to read terms and conditions before committing.

[2:52]
Cost of a 2D Model

A typical 2D model costs $500 to $2000, but you can find cheaper deals or make it yourself for free using Live2D tutorials, such as Kira Omori's channel.

[3:39]
Face Tracking Software

Use face tracking software like VTube Studio (recommended), PRPR Live, or Face Rig. Import your model, select your camera, adjust settings, and tick transparency for OBS overlay.

[00:00] happy new year

[00:02] so you want to become a v tuber in 2022

[00:05] well new year new you and i'll show you

[00:07] exactly how and what you need to do so

[00:09] stick around the rest of the video to

[00:11] find out so what exactly is a vtuber put

[00:14] simply a youtuber is someone who uses a

[00:17] virtual avatar in place of their real

[00:19] life phase using various tracking

[00:20] technology

[00:22] this is done for a few reasons the big

[00:24] ones being anonymity role play and well

[00:28] just wanting to become anime and as

[00:30] weebs why wouldn't we want to become

[00:32] anime right

[00:33] so now that we know what a v tuber is

[00:36] how do we make one

[00:38] unfortunately you can't just swirl a v2

[00:40] ring into existence like you can your

[00:42] anime waifus but as with everything

[00:45] where there's a will there's a way i

[00:47] will focus on the 2d side of v tubing

[00:49] but a lot of what i say can also be

[00:51] applied to 3d and png tubing as well so

[00:54] creating a v tuber is essentially

[00:56] creating a character when you create a

[00:58] character you need a concept so grab

[01:01] that pen and paper

[01:02] or open up google docs whichever one is

[01:05] preferable and write down what you want

[01:07] your character to be are they a rapping

[01:09] reaper of death satan herself or a bird

[01:13] with a single wing yo look at the

[01:15] feather physics though

[01:18] whatever you want write it down and get

[01:20] a general idea of your vtuber after

[01:22] you've done that it's time for some

[01:23] concept art i'm not an artist i can't

[01:27] draw

[01:28] well here's the best part you don't

[01:30] actually need to let's say you're making

[01:32] a dragon v tuber there's a sea of images

[01:34] that you can google and make a reference

[01:36] sheet out of all you need to do is right

[01:38] click and save image and if tears are so

[01:40] furious at me right now you think it's

[01:42] funny to take screenshots of people's

[01:44] nfts

[01:47] so now you should have a description of

[01:48] your character along with a reference

[01:50] sheet or concept art awesome you're part

[01:53] of the way there already now it's time

[01:55] to find your parents

[01:56] no no no not your actual parents your

[01:59] youtuber parents these are the people

[02:01] who bring you to life by creating and

[02:03] rigging your model some have separate

[02:05] parents for their model art and rigging

[02:07] some have a single parent who'll do both

[02:10] as kind of a bundle and some are even

[02:12] their own parents like me i was my own

[02:15] daddy

[02:16] yeah when i first made my own model

[02:19] so where should you go to find them i

[02:21] find my artist and rigger through

[02:22] twitter but you can also use services

[02:24] such as fiverr and in discord community

[02:26] such as the live2d server which has a

[02:28] vendor channel listing various artists

[02:31] and riggers now here's a pro tip though

[02:33] don't rush into picking someone take

[02:35] your time and look around read their

[02:37] terms and conditions carefully please

[02:40] you want to know what you're getting

[02:41] yourself into before you commit and

[02:43] spend a lot more money than you're

[02:45] willing to on something that you're not

[02:47] going to be satisfied in or you're not

[02:48] going to be a ladder visions on or

[02:49] something like that on the topic of cost

[02:52] a typical 2d model can set you back

[02:54] anywhere from 500

[02:55] to 2 000

[02:57] but that's not to say that you can't

[02:59] find cheaper deals or if you know how to

[03:01] draw you can make it yourself for free

[03:03] learning live 2d takes time but it

[03:05] certainly isn't impossible and there are

[03:08] a plethora of tutorials out there that

[03:10] i've personally binged when making my

[03:12] first model i personally recommend kira

[03:14] omori's channel for learning life2d

[03:16] she's been a real life saver when i was

[03:18] first starting out and rigging my first

[03:20] model i'll put her link down in the

[03:22] description below if you're enjoying the

[03:23] video please subscribe and follow me on

[03:25] twitch i stream every week at twitch.tv

[03:28] ch see you there so at this point you've

[03:32] found your parents and they've brought

[03:33] you to life or perhaps you've brought

[03:35] yourself to life now we need to get your

[03:37] 2d self to match your real life motions

[03:39] and to do this we need face tracking

[03:41] software as well as a webcam of sorts or

[03:44] even your phone there are a variety of

[03:46] options to choose from when it comes to

[03:47] face tracking the notable ones are prp r

[03:50] live face rig and what i personally use

[03:53] v tube studio there is a video made by

[03:55] vault falcon directly comparing the

[03:57] three which i highly recommend you watch

[03:59] right after this video to get a real

[04:00] sense of the pros and cons of each

[04:02] software at a glance

[04:04] for this video i'll show you how to use

[04:05] v tube studio as it's what i'm most

[04:07] comfortable with setup is fairly

[04:09] straightforward you import your model by

[04:11] following the instructions turn on your

[04:13] desired camera for me it's my webcam and

[04:15] you can adjust the settings to your

[04:17] liking mess around with what you find

[04:19] works best for you oh and make sure you

[04:21] have the transparency box ticked so you

[04:23] can overlay your model on obs alright

[04:25] great now that view tracking is set up

[04:27] we can move on to the final phase which

[04:29] is putting it all together in obs super

[04:31] simple stuff simply create a game source

[04:34] and select your face tracking software

[04:35] and vote

[04:36] you're done that was literally it now

[04:39] you can move around as the anime waifu

[04:40] or husbando that you've always dreamt of

[04:42] becoming all that's left now is for you

[04:44] to go live or make videos and with that

[04:46] honestly the sooner the better good luck

[04:48] out there ciao
