I Learned Live2D in 24 Hours
45sThe challenge hook and relatable struggle of a tight deadline grab attention immediately.
▶ Play ClipThe creator, Mari, attempts to learn Live2D and rig a VTuber model within 24 hours before her software trial expires. She uses a sponsored course from Coloso taught by professional rigger Kutata. Despite initial struggles with PSD setup, art meshing, and perfectionism, she completes a basic rig in 13 hours.
Mari had to reorganize, rename, and cut layers in her PSD, which took 3 hours. Her artist provided an updated version to speed up the process.
Instead of using automesh, Mari created custom art meshes for better control, learning techniques from Kutata's course. This took 2 hours.
Rigging eyes and mouth was challenging due to model differences. Mari used 90's anime references and a time-saving tip from Kutata to mirror left/right sides.
Rigging face angles (left/right turn) was the most difficult part, taking almost 3 hours. Mari struggled with perfectionism and the uncanny valley effect.
Kutata's advice to 'stop being a perfectionist' became the biggest lesson. Mari realized that minor details aren't as important as the overall result.
Body rigging was straightforward, taking only 30 minutes. Mari simplified leg movement by not separating into three parts as commonly advised.
Physics rigging focused on hair and chest movement. Mari noted that limited chest size reduced complexity. She finished basic physics before ending the challenge.
Mari found the structured course more effective than YouTube tutorials, which she described as inconsistent and not beginner-friendly. The professional instruction helped her understand concepts better.
Mari successfully completed a basic Live2D rig in 13 hours, learning the fundamentals and gaining confidence. She emphasizes that structured learning from a professional can be more efficient than piecing together free tutorials.
"The title is accurate; she did learn Live2D in 24 hours, though she completed the rig in 13 hours."
What is the smallest geometric unit that a computer can read?
A triangle (formed by connecting three dots).
03:30
How long did it take Mari to set up her PSD?
3 hours.
01:14
What was the most difficult part of rigging according to Mari?
Rigging face angles (left/right turn).
05:06
What tip did Kutata give that saved time on eye rigging?
Mirroring left and right sides so you don't have to rework each side.
04:42
How long did Mari spend on art meshing?
2 hours.
03:42
What was the biggest lesson Mari learned during the challenge?
Stop being a perfectionist; it's okay if it's not perfect.
06:24
How long did it take Mari to complete the body rigging?
30 minutes.
07:59

09:14[00:00] I learned Live2d in a single day.
[00:01] And you can do.
[00:03] Why would I want to learn Live2d
[00:05] Well, that's because the other day
[00:09] model, I opened up my Live2d program
[00:13] So now I only have 24 hours
[00:18] But isn't Live2d hard?
[00:20] Doesn't
[00:22] That's why I'm paying thousands of dollars
[00:26] model instead, right?
[00:28] Well, I used to think that too,
[00:31] sponsor) asking if I like to take
[00:34] It's only 13 hours
[00:38] A Live2d modeling professional,
[00:40] which means that I should be able
[00:44] So with that being said,
[00:49] So the first thing I had to do
[00:52] and right after watching Kutata’s
[00:56] I realized that my PSD
[00:59] Basically, I had to reorganize and rename
[01:03] But thankfully, Kutata provided me
[01:07] layer cutting for your PSD.
[01:08] I decided to download the basic one
[01:11] want to spend too much time
[01:14] and just getting the minimum amount done
[01:19] Thankfully, my artist was kind enough
[01:22] which helped me work on it a lot faster,
[01:26] time consuming it is just to have to
[01:30] Like, man, this 24 hour
[01:35] and I haven't even loaded the program yet.
[01:38] Now you might be wondering,
[01:39] Mari, why’s it such a big deal
[01:43] And that's
[01:46] really limits your ability
[01:49] Besides,
[01:52] Because you can do
[01:55] And I have some crazy video ideas
[01:58] that would be a lot easier for me to do
[02:02] Also, I had this pro trial for 42 days
[02:07] I literally felt like
[02:10] and this seemed like a fun challenge
[02:13] Now I'm not a complete beginner
[02:15] for Live2d.
[02:16] I have attempted to learn live2D before
[02:20] with the results.
[02:21] So this is my second time
[02:22] trying to actually learn the program
[02:29] Once I finally got my PSD sorted
[02:31] and loaded everything into Live2D,
[02:35] (Haha JK).
[02:36] Why would I actually do any Live2d
[02:40] challenge video, right?
[02:42] It was actually time for me
[02:47] Now, originally I was going
[02:51] but after watching some of Kutata’s
[02:55] techniques and shortcuts
[02:59] Making my own custom made for certain
[03:03] on, as you'll see in the video. Plus,
[03:06] There's just something
[03:09] swallowed into the void of
[03:14] this also took longer than I was expecting
[03:18] studying the example file and taking notes
[03:22] Live2d modeling. I know, right? Studying.
[03:25] I actually studied in this challenge
[03:28] Like. Yes, I did. You know.
[03:30] Did you know that when you connect three
[03:33] the smallest geometric unit
[03:35] that your computer can read,
[03:37] you get this
[03:40] Anyways, it took me about 2 hours
[03:42] which means I'm already 5 hours
[03:45] and I haven't even started
[03:48] Why do I take so much time
[03:50] to have everything before
[03:53] Well, because remember how I said
[03:58] making my own custom art
[04:02] Well, I realized
[04:05] that not separating your model correctly
[04:10] That's right.
[04:10] Welcome to Live2d rigging Hell. Hell
[04:15] implement.
[04:16] I taught you how you got to article.
[04:18] Don't come to school eat political catwalk
[04:22] One joke furniture and it was me
[04:24] And since what we all So, rigging
[04:28] Well,
[04:31] it took me a little longer to get my eyes
[04:34] Actually, I had to look up a lot of 90’s
[04:38] the general aesthetics right for my model,
[04:42] saving tip that Kutata showed me
[04:44] by not having to rework each left
[04:47] Now there are episodes
[04:50] that showed me more advanced techniques
[04:53] But I'm trying to get this done
[04:57] And I wanted to get my eye and mouth
[05:01] because the next thing I had to rig
[05:05] to, where the face angles.
[05:06] Now how could that possibly be?
[05:10] Oh I
[05:13] struggled so much on this part
[05:17] You would think that rigging your face
[05:18] to look left
[05:21] Wrong.
[05:22] It is literally the most difficult thing
[05:26] I only had 17 hours
[05:28] That's almost a halfway mark
[05:31] super cool, edgy, high end turn angles
[05:34] for my model because that does
[05:37] But even just doing a simple left
[05:42] You know, looking at all of this,
[05:45] I was having during this challenge
[05:48] and I keep trying to make everything
[05:52] But then when I would go
[05:54] it felt like
[05:58] I don't know.
[05:59] This took me so long and I was getting
[06:03] So I decided to take a break
[06:06] and I watched more of Kutata’s videos
[06:09] And all of a sudden I heard him saying
[06:16] At first I
[06:19] But as I went on
[06:21] I realize how much of a foreshadowing
[06:24] becoming the biggest lesson
[06:26] I learned in this entire class,
[06:30] Like it's okay to want to make something
[06:32] But that doesn’t mean
[06:34] And when you think about how much time
[06:35] I spent working on this part, you know,
[06:38] because I'm a complete beginner
[06:40] It made me realize that
[06:45] on the minor details
[06:48] Because when I export to the model, just
[06:52] you know, to make sure nothing was broken,
[06:56] and I didn't even work on any physics
[06:58] So they kind of brighten up my mood a bit.
[07:00] Want to keep going
[07:02] try to get some full body movement
[07:05] Also, you know, it's never really good
[07:09] for extended periods of time, right?
[07:10] It can really affect your productivity
[07:14] And I think that started happening to me
[07:18] rewinding
[07:21] just to see how he specifically
[07:24] And thankfully, after so many corrections,
[07:28] over and over again.
[07:29] I was finally done rigging the face
[07:33] So what's next?
[07:37] Finally,
[07:38] something
[07:41] Honestly,
[07:43] because I didn't have a lot of movement
[07:44] to my body because- Okay, so get this,
[07:48] swear on Twitter that you need to separate
[07:52] To get nice leg movement?
[07:53] Well as it turns out,
[07:55] So I just copied what Kutata’s
[07:59] about 30 minutes to finish
[08:02] So now, that means it’s time for physics!
[08:07] Now you can do a lot of cool
[08:11] who cares about any of that?
[08:13] Because we all know the most
[08:16] and that is how Boing boing, Your VTuber’s
[08:20] If you know what I'm saying.
[08:22] So if I just focus on that,
[08:25] done- And well, as it turns out,
[08:29] if you don't have much booba to work with.
[08:32] So I guess I'll just go work on
[08:36] And at this point,
[08:37] after I finished some basic physics,
[08:41] you know, probably
[08:44] from only consuming Boba
[08:47] So I went to go make noms
[08:51] because I needed my beauty
[08:54] And the results?
[08:59] I think I did a pretty
[09:00] great job doing a basic rig myself
[09:03] It's not the same quality
[09:07] but this was a really great chance
[09:11] and enhance
[09:14] Now that this challenge is finally over
[09:18] and studying the rest of the class
[09:22] tutorials on Live2d that I've watched on
[09:26] Like, don't get me wrong,
[09:27] they're all made by amazing Live2d
[09:31] I really struggle learning a lot
[09:35] because every tutorial
[09:38] proper subtitling,
[09:41] Like a lot of the stuff you see here on
[09:44] and unless if you’re very familiar
[09:46] Then a lot of the things that I tried
[09:49] learning
[09:51] I think learning from others is so useful
[09:55] However, if you're a smooth brain like me,
[09:58] then you probably struggle
[10:00] If it's not explained well enough.
[10:01] And I don't know,
[10:02] I feel like I actually learned
[10:05] and making vertebrate models
[10:08] than the last two years
[10:12] Plus, it feels kind of nice to learn
[10:15] in the field.
[10:17] I often find myself struggling
[10:20] like this
[10:24] I don't always know where to start things
[10:28] I just feel like I'm always getting lost
[10:31] being flooded into my brain.
[10:32] Like, my head empty, okay?
[10:34] I'm really thankful for Colosso
[10:37] and letting me take this Live2d class
[10:42] in my abilities
[10:45] I'm really proud of myself
[10:46] for getting this much work
[10:50] It isn’t high quality, but who doesn't
[10:54] So if you made it this far into the video
[10:57] You get a cookie.
[10:58] And if you'd like to take the same class
[11:00] then you can click on the link
[11:03] code ‘MariYume’
[11:06] Also, even if you aren't interested in
[11:10] of other courses for all different
[11:13] 3D modeling, pixel art,
[11:17] I remember when I first found out
[11:20] YouTube channel named Ergojosh,
[11:23] courses before, you know, unsponsored
[11:25] and they were really well-made courses
[11:29] So of course, when Colosso asked to work
[11:33] yes because I knew it was going to be high
[11:38] Now, usually
[11:40] where I would say
[11:42] on any questions
[11:45] but I actually want to answer
[11:48] I think some of you watching might have
[11:53] same question over and over again,
[11:56] to a virtual wall.
[11:58] Oh, wait-
[12:02] No, these are not subscription based.
[12:04] You pay for the entire class
[12:07] associated with it.
[12:10] It's very friendly.
[12:11] At first I kind of struggled
[12:14] but once I downloaded their video player
[12:17] so I don't have any issues
[12:18] And lastly, is it worth it?
[12:20] Well,
[12:23] since at the end of the day
[12:25] But let me put it to you
[12:28] answer this question for you.
[12:29] You can always make more money,
[12:34] Time is going to be the most
[12:38] And do you really want to spend
[12:42] feeling frustrated, burned out
[12:45] I know I didn’t,
[12:47] and even though I got this course
[12:49] you better believe
[12:51] when live because there is no way I would
[12:55] just by sifting through YouTube videos
[12:59] Like look at this.
[13:00] I actually did it.
[13:02] I completed the challenge.
[13:03] I really didn't think
[13:06] this class really helped me a lot
[13:10] and why certain techniques work
[13:14] if you like to take the same class as me,
[13:15] then you can click on the link
[13:19] code “MariYume”
[13:22] And with that I'd like to say once again
[13:25] for sponsoring this video.
[13:26] And if you like these kind of Live2d
[13:28] rigging challenge videos, then
[13:32] Thanks for watching
[13:33] and feel free to check out
[13:36] Oyasumi.
