Stream Deck in a Keyboard? Corsair Galleon 100 SD Review

[00:03] Wow, Corsa really said, "What if uh what if uh what if uh put a stream deck in a keyboard and they sent it to me. So today we'll be talking

[00:17] about what I like, what I dislike, and who I think this is for." So we can start by talking about the body. [music] I am not a huge keyboard guy. I haven't touched many, many, many, many keyboards

[00:32] in my life, but this has to be the sturdiest feeling keyboard I've ever held in my life. Like, this is strong, compact, metal, heavy. Absolutely heavy. When you hold this thing and you move it around, nothing screams like plastic at

[00:47] all. And I kind of love that. On top of the amazing design, this feels like, you know, actual heavy machinery. Of course, you have the stream deck where your were asking, "Oh, what about the numpad?" It's a stream deck, you know,

[01:00] like the macro keyboard that can do pretty much anything. So, of course, it have gallon written on the side here. Just realized [music] my camera is not just one light bar. It has that little pattern for the LED to shine

[01:15] through. So, even when it's not on, you can subtly see that little pattern, which gives it like a pretty pretty slick design. Something else to note is functions are actually marked on the front. So, if I just do this, you can

[01:29] already see some keys, right? You have your multimedia stuff on top. So, since quick glance, you can see what key does what. Just holding it in front of the camera like that. I can feel it. I just checked the weight. It's 1.39 kilos. So,

[01:43] it's pretty significant. Something else I really like is that you have two sets of feet on each side. So, if you want to raise [music] it just a little bit like that, you can do that. And if you want to raise it a little higher, then you

[01:55] have this. That's pretty cool. Here you have your power. Here you have your pass through and then another pass through over there. The keys are Corsair MLX Pulse linear prelubricated mechanical keys. And honestly, it's something that

[02:08] sense of it because at first when I tapped it like that, I had this sense of what it felt like. But then I actually set it down, started typing with it, and it felt completely different. Now, on the Stream Deck side, we have 12 keys.

[02:22] touch screen. I thought it was going to be a touch screen, like the Stream Deck Plus, but it's not. And then you have your two knobs for three inputs, left, right, and then press. All that to say, overall, this feels like it was meant to

[02:34] go on your big desk. That's like a battle station keyboard. This doesn't feel like the cheap plasticky thing that you would throw in a backpack with your laptop to travel around. This has great presence and if I were to describe it in

[02:47] presence and if I were to describe it in one word, it would be sturdy. feature. The LCD screen, the fact that it's compatible with the Xbox One, the Xbox Series S, the Xbox Series X, the PS4, and the PS5, and of course, Windows

[03:04] different modes. And there's built-in memories for different profiles, you plug it somewhere that doesn't have the Shrim deck software, it's not just going to shut off. You're still going to have a profile and usable buttons. If

[03:17] sound, they're hot swappable, so you can remove them and put something that you prefer. And of course, the whole thing is highly customizable due to having, Windows. You can actually change the colors of the LEDs around the knobs. And

[03:31] you can customize the LED effects. And let's not forget our Fn key that things. Changing the lighting effects is Fn plus all the numerical keys including minus and plus. So that's 12. And Fn plus the F keys will switch the profiles

[03:46] and you know pause, previous, forwards. You can also control the brightness of the keyboard itself through those keys. And you can macro record. And that's builtin. That's plugandplay. That works as soon as you plug it in. But of

[03:58] software to control all that stuff. And Elgato has all the Stream Deck software, Elgato has all the Stream Deck software, which is what I'm more interested in.

[04:10] my main computer now just to show you the process and give you some tips. Stream Deck and you have the Stream Deck software installed, it's going to tell you to update. Don't even bother. Close your Stream Deck software, go to the

[04:23] version. So, it's going to install it. You're going to open it and it's going to tell you, "Hey, there's a bunch of plugins that are missing." Because this actually comes with some profiles. You want to log into your Elgato account.

[04:35] Boom. Just like that. And then install all. Hopefully it works this time. It didn't work on my other computer because some weird permission. Oh, it looks like it's working. That's perfect. Oh yeah, smooth. If that doesn't work for you,

[04:47] keys and then install them one by one. But I was lucky. Now, this is something there's so many like pre-installed profiles to really give you an idea of how to use this optimally. Not necessarily optimally, but like to show

[05:02] really love. And right off the bat, we kind of have an idea of, you know, how to use this or who is it for. I would classify this keyboard just like I would classify this Trim Deck Plus as a desktop dashboard mostly that you can

[05:16] control stuff, but not something that you're going to actively have your hand numpad actually. It's not something that you're constantly pressing. And the the normal stream deck, for example, if I'm uh video editing, I have this

[05:32] profile and I do not touch my keyboard pretty much. I almost never touch my the whole time and I have everything I need, right? Whereas the Stream Deck Plus is more like, hey, show me what's going on and if I need to adjust

[05:45] touch it. So, let's take a closer look at those default profiles. So, on top here, you have an image that shows home in the middle and then left, right, or arrows. That means left is a switch profile left and then right switch

[05:59] you can see, switching the knobs switches the profiles. And if you still want your precious numpad, you still have two pages right there. So if you do you to do is basically go to the Stream Deck software and click on each button.

[06:14] analyze what they do. This one, for example, is a soundboard. For the weather, for example, I know that it is definitely not - 7 where I live. So, clicking down here makes me realize that it's set to New York City.

[06:28] After selecting my actual city, we can see that it's 21° C. Now, of course, customized by basically dragging and dropping the option that you want. From plugins. I'm mostly talking for people who are not familiar with the Stream

[06:43] endless. And if you look here, you're going to see keys. So, that's for the different buttons because, well, you know, it's it's a different system. And remember, you can set each option to turning the dial once counterclockwise,

[06:58] pressing down on it. So, Stream Deck plugins are something that I really want you to look into because there's more possibilities than you can think of. Discord, for example, you have user volume control. So, if one particular

[07:11] sure you authorize access through Discord. Down here you'll have options actually go through a list of how many people are in the call with you and you can pick the specific user or any user. And in that case, if you look here,

[07:25] volume by turning the knob, but also you can switch to the next user by tapping. now by hopping in a random call. Okay, so I'm in a random call and you can see that the user list appears here. But if

[07:38] I pick any user, I can set it here. And on screen, I actually see the profile going to press once, it's going to switch to someone else. I'm going to press again, switch to someone else, and I can individually control the volume of

[07:51] people that I'm speaking to. That is practical. And I've never done it until things that I want you to keep in mind. I don't want you to think this is just a keyboard with a macro pad integrated. If you don't own a Stream Deck yet, uh,

[08:04] profiles, I'm going to link my Twitch channel real quick. I can keep an eye on my favorite creators. The YouTube buttons, for example, actually gives us some pretty wild options. We can set it up to display the live stream or the

[08:17] example. As you can see, after putting my YouTube channel, you can put any press the button and it's going to automatically open my latest video. This is great. And for Twitch, for example, here we have Finite Singularity. You can

[08:32] show viewer accounts when they're live. You can show a stream preview. You can play a sound when the channel goes live. If you're a moderator, you can also open the mod dashboard. Like again, this is not just the macro keyboard is what I'm

[08:46] enough by now. And what I'm showing right now is just plug and play. Those that Stream Deck has support for long press. That means that you can press long press to close the app, giving you absolute full control. Now, let's say

[09:01] profile, and that sounds very complicated, and you want more of those pre-made ones. Well, thankfully there's a little colorful button right there you can click and that'll bring you to the Elgato marketplace where with just one

[09:13] profiles downloaded to your Stream Deck software directly and get going. Now, some of them are free, some of them are not. But the chances are if you play a game that really really requires you to have a bunch of macros like Star Citizen

[09:27] for example, someone already took the time to make a whole profile pack for it Battlefield 6, Arc Raiders, that's a big one. So you don't have to worry about spending hours or days setting up your

[09:40] the marketplace. Look at that. There's Roadcraft. And of course, since there's a whole community behind it, more and more will be added. I might even add my even for customizing your own, there's plenty of packs of images and icons out

[09:55] own. And just to make sure, you can actually filter on the website by going to profiles and then setting your device to be the Gallion. There you go. Now you know that all of those will absolutely work with your new keyboard and there's

[10:09] Jurassic World Farming Simulator. Finally, we have the software for the keyboard itself, which I'm not going to lie, personally not super interested in because again, not a huge keyboard guy. I usually plug it in, use it for typing,

[10:23] never switch profiles, but for you, if you're interested, you go to Corsair web hub. You want to make sure you authorize, select your device up here, click connect, and boom, we're in. And from there you can do well all the fancy

[10:35] stuff that you're used to doing with keyboards that I'm not used to doing with keyboards. So on this website is where you would go to actually customize like key assignments and things like that. If you really want to control your

[10:47] actual macros, set up pre-typed [music] text, but also test your keys. At the settings, there's even more option updates. That's where you're going to find it. While we're here, I can show

[11:01] you the easy color effects. So holding Fn and all the numbers here. Number three, we got that color wheel. Four is this one. So it's like the passing rainbow. Five, I believe it is my favorite. When you type the keys, they

[11:15] highlight and then they slowly fade out like this. A I love this so much. Six is the one we were on. You type one and it ripples away. That's pretty cool. Seven is fading between uh different colors. Eight is fading in and out between

[11:27] can retype them again for things that are color specific. for example. We'll see that later. Here we have this uh pass which is nice. And on the zero we have color specific. So if I press it again, I get this color and I can pick

[11:42] plus that are actually used for the speed of some of the effects. I'm going to try that. Make that super slow. And then I'm going to increase it. Make that super fast. As you can see, that's

[11:54] that. This one might be more visually telling. Let me really increase that. You see how fast that's going? And then I can really reduce that. [music]

[12:09] hardware mode which is when there's no Stream Deck software running. What is it Deck software right now. And as you can see, it goes back to this this profile. access to those keys, to those shortcuts, and also the numpad by just

[12:24] twisting the knob like that. What I mostly want to show you is the themes. is actually change the theme of the entire keyboard. So if I press, you can see that it's changing the effects on

[12:36] the keyboard, but there's also wallpapers that are associated to the stream deck that goes with each theme. At the bottom here, you can set the brightness of the stream deck. So that's uh five different levels. That's lowest.

[12:48] It doesn't show well on camera cuz this camera is so good. And then you have the brightness of the actual keyboard. Again, five steps. Here you can cycle now, so that's fine. Here you can switch the frequency. We have uh 8 kHz, 125 Hz,

[13:04] and 1 kHz. Here you can activate or deactivate uh flash tap. That's supposed like advanced movement techniques. I don't know. I don't I don't use that mode, and that is something that you can customize more on the web hub, like what

[13:19] yeah, and to customize the LEDs on the knobs, you have to go to your Windows settings, Bluetooth, and devices. Then go to keyboard. Then you'll see dynamic lighting and here you'll see two entries. So in here you can choose the

[13:33] effect and only a couple of them are actually going to work. Breathing is rainbow is going to fade in between colors. As you can see um we selected the second part but it's actually applying the effect to both of them all

[13:46] individually we have to pick a gradient right there. You'll see it's turn it's turning off one of them. We're going to click on the little arrow here and then I believe we can pick the colors. Yes. Look at that. Beautiful. [music]

[13:59] cool. Let's stay true to my uh color scheme. Let's go purple and um and teal. That's nice. An extra tip here is that you will see up top there's four little

[14:11] windows, right? An extra tip here is that you have four windows here, but for example, top left you'll see that this is telling me what the knob does. But there are only two knobs. So, how do I get to that bottom one for example?

[14:25] hold. I did say that you had three actions with the knobs, which is left, press and hold, which will basically control Spotify, for example, I could press, hold, and boom. Now I'm

[14:38] Spotify, so it's not connected. [music] So that means if you're creating your to have full control, let's say I would drag my overall Discord volume control

[14:50] controller, I could have a manual software detection. So this would allow and lower the whole game while you're streaming. And then we'll put input your microphone. So now you have four different volumes that you can switch in

[15:05] between by just holding a little bit. So even if it's only two knobs, which different controls. So the top one can go left, right to do something, press to do something, and the bottom one same thing. So that's 12 extra buttons if you

[15:21] will. That's 12 extra buttons just for what's on screen with the two knobs on top of your regular 12 Stream Deck buttons. [gasps] That's a lot. That's a saver. So from the Stream Deck software, you go to settings up top here. And

[15:36] You can then click on image from file and just put whatever image you want. And this is what it will look like. And we can set it to sleep after 5 minutes. There you go. Look at that. Beautiful. Beautiful. One last thing I want to show

[15:49] you is the little animation when you first plug it in. Wow. Check this out. Oh, it didn't do the whole thing. What the hell? All right, watch this. Watch the hell? All right, watch this. Watch this. You plug it in and it goes.

[16:07] keyboard. Are you ready to game to play Arc Raiders and Battlefield 6 and Arc Raiders and Battlefield 6 and Fortnite and Animal Crossing? >> my best friend. >> Anyways, the final point is the price.

[16:22] I think it's a hefty price, not going to lie. But for what it is, I get it. I not something you would just buy on a whim without knowing what you would use it for. I think if you are a professional content creator, for

[16:37] example, and you don't already have like a Stream Deck Plus, um, and you don't have a Stream Deck for some reason, uh, like I think this is great. Next time you want to upgrade your keyboard, get this one. Considering how solid it is,

[16:49] considering it is hot swappable, it actually ends up being a really good deal on a two for one Stream Deck Plus keyboard. So yeah, that's my opinion. I believe it's a very different purpose for a normal Stream Deck. I believe it

[17:01] is more like the Stream Deck Plus. Although I wouldn't say that one convenient than a Stream Deck Plus because it's right there on your keyboard. But if you already have one, I don't think you need the other

[17:13] necessarily. Unless you want it, then get it by any means. I use a software called Blender 3D that actually makes good use of the numpad, and I think it's going to be practical to actually have icons that match what they do on the

[17:25] numpad on the Stream Deck of this keyboard. But yeah, that's enough sending me this one. As usual, there will be a link in the description to learn more about it. Like this is my advice like from adult to adult before

[17:38] putting 350 bucks. Don't just listen to YouTubers. Actually read about it and make sure you learn about everything before you spend 350 bucks especially on more information than what I can provide in a short YouTube video like that. I
